Sigma 24mm f/3.5 DG DN Contemporary Lens (Sony E)

Sigma have introduced their new exciting I series range, which combines portability with high-performance, specifically designed for full-frame Mirrorless cameras. This example, the Sigma AF 24mm F3.5 DG DN C features a popular wide-angle focal length which is favoured by landscape and street photographers. The lens weighs just 225 grams, so it is perfect for pairing with your full-frame Mirrorless camera for travel purposes. As well as a closest focus of just under 11cm, this lens features a 1:2 magnification ratio, so it can competently be used on subjects near and far. The Sigma AF 24mm F3.5 DG DN C lens features a premium optical design which incorporates 3 Aspherical and 1 SLD lens element for advanced sharpness and clarity. Super multi-layer coating has also been applied to limit ghosting and flare and enhance contrast and colour accuracy. Although lightweight, this Sigma lens is well-made, with a rugged brass bayonet mount as well as rubber sealing to provide dust and moisture-sealing. A stepping motor as included to provide fast and quiet AF performance, which is great for focusing on varied subjects. A manual aperture ring is available for the benefit of manual shooting, while "A" position is available for automated shooting.

Historically I have not been a fan of Sigma lenses simply due to the exterior finish on them, some parts of which tend to get burnish marks on them very easily. This lens is all metal, the quality and feel is top notch. Normally I prefer the Sony lenses but this Sigma lens feels and looks better to me than the similar Sony FE24mm f/2.8 G which I also tried. I also prefer the bokeh of this lens, the quality of which has been mentioned in several reviews I've read and they seem to have been correct. The lens is certainly very sharp and I appreciate its small size for ease of carrying. I use it in a Sony a7R IV and have a custom button set so I can switch back and forth between full frame and APS-C easily which in a sense gives me a 24 and 35mm lens although at a loss ... MoreHistorically I have not been a fan of Sigma lenses simply due to the exterior finish on them, some parts of which tend to get burnish marks on them very easily. Obviously you could crop later but it helps with composition. I hope Sigma moves more in this direction in terms of build quality with future lenses.

This lens is sharp, edge to edge, flare resistant and focuses close. Mechanically it is solid from the lens hood, to the magnetic lens cap. Very nice aperture ring and the focus mechanism. This lens reminds me of Leica lenses of old.I'm very happy with my purchase. Sigma is producing amazing lenses.

Feels solid and well made.

I've been getting excellent results using this and a sigma fp on a gimbal. I'd buy it again.

Super Compact, High Build Quality
12 February 2021

Bought this lens because I wanted a wide angle that was super compact. The build quality is exceptional, very happy to have an aperture ring, and the image quality is great for the size. I don't mind the slower aperture because this will be a landscape hiking and daytime street lens, which means I will be shooting at the slower apertures anyways.

What I was looking for.
13 February 2021

I bought the Sigma fp thinking it would be great walk around camera with a small wide angle lens. It gook 9 months for then to come out with it but it is here now. It makes great pictures, sharp with great colors. It's not quite as small as I'd like, not a pancake, but small enough. It has a great feel to with with an all metal body, nice clicks on all the stops and easy focusing if one decides to use manual focus. I'm very happy to take the small 3.5 over a larger, bulkier 1.4. My only complaint is that it would be nice to have a button to take the lens out of auto aperture settings. It has slipped to a manual setting a few times with out being aware until I can't change the aperture from the camera. Otherwise, it's really a joy to have and to use.
