Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens For L-Mount

Sigma 35mm f2 DG DN I C for L-MountThis light, compact lens is designed with the highest level of optical performance to create stunning results. Ideal for street and astro photography, environmental portraits, wedding and video, it is for photographers and film makers who value the experience of taking a picture just as much as the quality of the final result. New standards of optical performance for the Contemporary lineDespite its small size, no compromise has been made on the optical performance of the SIGMA I series 24mm F3.5 DG DN Contemporary. It is capable of capturing the finest details when shooting on high resolution full-frame cameras, and it does so across the entire frame, which means photographers can rely on edge-to-edge sharpness at all apertures when shooting wide-angle scenes. The 35mm F2 DG DN Contemporary brings to the table the highest level of optical performance even at its maximum aperture of F2. Axial chromatic aberration, a point of particular concern with a bright lens, is corrected with SLD glass. The placement of high-refractive index elements provides effective correction of various types of aberration, while keeping the amount of glass used to a minimum. The use of three high-precision glass-molded aspherical lenses was made possible thanks to advanced production technology at the Aizu factory, SIGMAs only production site. These elements provide correction of spherical aberration and field curvature, and the fluctuation of aberration at the time of focusing. The lens design also provides a very good correction of sagittal coma aberration, making it capable of capturing details fine enough for it to be used for night sky photography. Attractive bokehThe lens renders very attractive bokeh, and out-of-focus highlights are near-circular, even at the edges of the frame.

I am loving the results of my decision and look forward to seeing what I can produce in the future with this lens. The lens is not perfect and is not the sharpest at 2.0. There are definitely better lenses out there if you are a pixel peeper, but I think this lens provides wonderful images and great color rendering. I really like the size of this lens as well as the manual controls. I haven't tried the sigma 35mm 1.4, but the built in Adapter makes the lens much bigger and more cumbersome to carry with you. I personally think the build quality, price difference and size make up for the extra stops that the 1.4 provides. This f2 is also designed specifically for mirrorless and I believe that to be an overall win compared to an older design modified to fit the L mount cameras. I would highly recommend this lens and would suggest anyone with an L mount camera to buy this lens.PS SIGMA please make a 135mm 2.0 or 2.8 I series lens!

An excellent compact lens that produces solid results

This is an excellent compact lens that produces solid results. I use it on my Lumix S5. The image is sharp throughout the aperture range, and the color reproduction really stands out from the 20-60 kit lens that's typical with these cameras. Once the lens is on my camera, I tend to leave it on and use it as a regular walk around lens.

Great 20mm option for Leica L

It's not just a great option, it's an outstanding lens. Very sharp wide open, great for astrophotography, beautiful colors (coatings), compact, metal built, aperture ring, its a gem of a lens. Only negative is the distortion, but it's a 20mm,juat crop a little, small adjustments in post will do the trick. Very happy with it. Sigma 20mm 1.4 is gen 2 is coming out soon for almost twice the price, twice the weight, more lens elements, not sure for my needs I can justify the price difference. I can't stress enough how good it feels to have such a good performance out of such a compact lens, the sigma 20mm f2 comes highly recommended.

Great lens, very happy

Have both SONY 35mm f1.8 and this sigma f1.8. The build quality of sigma is top notch. It still feels well balanced on SONY a73 even with the metal lens hood. It is my favorite walk around lens now. It also has better color rendering, much less Chromatic aberration than the SONY version. Sharpness wise, I could not tell the difference between these two.

I love the first impressions. It feels really split and metal built. Paired with the Panasonic S1 it gives good video and image quality. At F2 it delivers a nice bokeh and for the price it's an excellent purchase. Thanks

Low Light Beast

This is a beast for low light scenarios. Paired with the Panasonic S5 it gives good video. It reminds me of the MFT Leica 15mm f1.7. Great construction...well, I'm sure you'll find a thorough review on some platform.

Outstanding resolution and light weight
9 February 2021

This lens gives pictures a look shared with the 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art - sharp without appearing overly clinical. It sneaks up on you - Oh, that's really sharp. Some of Leica's own lenses really slap you in the face with their sharpness - you'd look and say, My G#d that's sharp! The Sigma 35/2 DG DN C is also less than half the weight of the 35/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH. I have a bad back and shoot on location a lot, so weight is important. And the Sigma 35/2 DG DN C while not an apochromatic lens is sharp enough. Subjectively and by MTF it's as sharp or sharper at center and edges than anything else that isn't a Leica L-mount lens.Highly recommended.(Use and images with Leica SL2.)

Overall a Good Lens

I don't think this lens is a 5 lens. Image quality is pretty good from f2 until f4. Above f4 this lens sharpens up nicely. By f11 sharpness is superb.I shot this lens recently on my SL2 and was impressed by the stopped-down sharpness.Build quality is definitely 5. The metal lens hood secures very well, surrounding a lens filter rather than on to a lens filter (I hope this makes sense).Aperture selection is firm and click into place nicely.I have not shot manual so I won't comment on manual focusing. Finally, mounted on my SL2 this lens was recognized. Presumably any in-camera image adjustments were made. The one time I've used this lens thus far I shot 50-60 shots, tossed them all out except one of the wife. Hence at this time no shots to contribute to ... MoreI don't think this lens is a 5 lens. Image quality is pretty good from f2 until f4. Above f4 this lens sharpens up nicely. So far, very good!

I spent a lot of time considering which 35mm lens to get for my Leica SL. I was looking for something which would give a more analog shooting experience, be solidly built and not break the bank. Very Sharp - good color on Leica SL2-s
12 September 2021

After several weeks of use, the lens has produced very sharp images when using auto focus. The color rendered is pleasing and not overly contrasty.Autofocus is quiet when taking photos. I have not used it for video so I cannot comment on that.Very satisfied with the lens.
