Arrived in rapid time. Was expecting it to take 2-3 days, but the Drive arrived the day after it was ordered, which was really a pleasant surprise. I plugged it in via a USB port to test it and it is now functioning quite well . Sturdy and Compact.

Have it only for two weeks now, but I am totally satisfied. It already proved the shock resistance little bit, believe that leaving it outside in the rain would not harm it. Good size - small and quite light. Only I didn't like that I had to buy some extra cord USB A-A which is not so common. But the short one is really too short. Also, it is quite noisily humming, but nothing terrible. I like it very much and recommend it. I got also Transcend 4TB which seems to be even more "outdoor" thing but is not waterproof and even though the humming is much softer, the actual sound of the head is much noisier. So I like both equally. This is as durable as promised! I'm about as clumsy as it gets. I've dropped this hard drive so many times and it's still working perfectly well and I've had it for years now.

Do not Format it!

Without knowledge I formatted this thing, Now it is unrecognizable on USB 3.0. I've tried with 3 different computers, result is the same. It works ONLY on USB 2.0 now. I tried to look for the right driver everywhere (First Place I looked for was their website of course), But it is nowhere to be found. Very frustrating. Do not format this thing!

Excellent shock proof and water resistant drive with fast transfer rates

Despite the military-grade shockproof protection, this drive is not that much bigger than any other 2.5" portable hard drive. After unboxing it I dropped it from above head height onto my lino covered wooden kitchen floor and it survived intact without any damage or marks left on the case and it worked when I connected to my laptop. It draws its power via the included USB-USB (i.e. not USB-Micro USB) cable, therefore there's no need for an extra power lead. My Windows 7 laptop recognised it immediately. It comes formatted to FAT32 but I’ve I reformatted it to NTFS (a quick 10 second Windows process). Copying 285GB of data to it took 90 minutes with a very impressive average transfer rate of 61MB/s. I use a USB 3.0 ExpressCard adapter so you should get even faster speeds with built-in USB 3.0. It's backwards compatible with USB 2.0. It looks good, with a black scratch resistant reinforced case with a silicone band that acts as a shock absorber and also incorporates a cover for the USB socket. There’s also a neat groove where you can attach the USB cable to the drive. Silent in operation, it stays cool and is also water resistant too. In summary, this is a high quality 1TB portable hard drive. With impressive transfer speeds and the peace of mind that the shock proof protection and water resistance offers, it's well worth the money and I definitely recommend it. It has a 3 year warranty. The green silicone you see on the outside goes all the way in to where the drive is. Other drives are just silicone on the outside and the drive mounted to the plastic case. Google a review on the Xtreme Systems forum or any other teardown. The catch is this drive is not waterproof like some of the others, I don't remember if it is even dust-proof, but surely better than a plain portable HDD. The USB cover flap is probably the worst part of the drive. It is a poor fit and could have been made a lot better. Otherwise the USB cable is fairly short and only fairly flexible (not premium). I have ordered a 0.5m cable for my situation so the drive sits somewhere safer. The cable was too short for my PC and USB ports, so it hold the drive up at a slight angle and not flat. The drive also has a removable USB-sata header, meaning that if that fails, you should be able to plug the drive directly into a sata port and have it work again. Performance is to be expected for a 2.5" 5400rpm drive - 110MB/s empty to about 50MB/s full. I purchased the 2TB drive which included a WD 15mm WD20NPVZ-00WFZT0

Irrevocable catastrophic failure and data loss in less than a year of use. Caution. Do not buy.

Attempted to recover with Recuva; failed. Attempted repair of GPT from secondary; failed. Attempted repair using GParted; failed. Able to grab some files off using photorec, which is time consuming. I will continue to recover data as I can, or to resign to lost work being gone. All I did was unplug the drive without ejecting. Will seek additional support, but never buying Silicon Power again.

Terrific External Storage!

This is my third Silicon Power Armor Shockproofportalble hard drive. I bought it because I have been so pleased with the quality of these hard drives. They are dependable, easy to use, and I have had no problems with them at all. I have dropped one, and it got into dirt, and still works flawlessly. I just needed more storage, so I purchased this additional Silicon Power hard drive. My only trouble now, is telling them apart -- which I easily remedied by using a metalic Sharpie pen to label them.

formatted numerous times in linux (Fedora 22) with both GParted and command line, exfat, ext4, ext3, ntfs, xfs, etc, and drive would never connect directly to motherboard via usb3, but would connect via usb2, or if i had a usb3 hub it would sometimes connect to that, but sometimes not. The time I have wasted attempting to get this drive to work as advertised has been worth much more than the price tag, while the drive itself has been worth less. I;ve formatted countless drives on various linux machines and never before come up against a lemon like this one. Advise to steer clear.
