Takes a while to get used to the different motion compared with a Bacho Lander. The cut is oh, so smooth you would think someone sanded it. First cut through 16cm of a recently downed Silver Birch trunk took 10 minutes. Second cut after I figured out how to use it took 3 minutes and I barely broke a sweat. The trick is (as the instructions say) to let the saw do the work. The more pressure I thought I would have to apply, the slower it cut. The more relaxed I was, the quicker it cut. I wouldn't recommend punishing the saw like I did on test, over a long period of time though, as it goes beyond it's design specifications. However, it is testiment to how the blade would perform if needed.

This is my favorite silky saw, and favorite saw in general. It is sufficient for cutting some very hefty limbs and light and compact enough to not feel like a burden. Its very comfortable in the hands and easy to unholster and flip open with one hand. This saw is sufficient for about 95% of my hand-saw needs (the other 5% falling on the Zubat). Would highly recommend!

Easy to use, lightweight and effective saw. Light enough to carry in a pack "just because". Cuts anything up to probably 4 inches really easily green or dried wood. Great for campfire prep and trail maintenance. Blade can bend a bit occasionally if not cutting straight but no issues with breakage or damage.Nice effective little saw.

Excellent first impression.

9.4" medium tooth works great. Pull cut only. Don't need to apply pressure unless you want a work out. The hard plastic case it comes with has a locking rubber latch ( I'm guessing it attaches to a belt loop ).Have only used it a few times in the past 24 hours since it arrived. Very impressive so far on first inspection and use. Will write a full review in a few weeks after further testing and a camping trip or two.Negative points : the box it is shipped in is huge and they ship enough paper to burn all night long.

This is the perfect size for having in a backpack. It's a very capable saw that can tackle some sizeable projects amazingly well. Although I own a larger Silky saw with larger teeth, I find the 2400 to be the perfect blend of efficiency and weight; the type of tool one includes in a bag of tricks for hunting, camping and fishing trips or other outdoors activities that may require a good saw. I've already tried it and was amazed at how in no time it went to a six inch thick branch to clear a trail.

Great Little Saw
1 October 2019

I bought this about a month ago and have used it several times since. It's a great little saw. I would say it's in the sweet spot for carrying around - not too small and not too big.Use it primarily for trees about 4" and below. It'll cut bigger but then a larger saw is more efficient. I use it for camping and bushcraft. Very well made. Replacement blades are a little pricey. Blades last a long time though from what I've read.

It's in the teeth ( As well as some other aspects).

What seems to set Silky's apart is their "impulse hardening" tooth treatment. There's a proprietary method they use which hardens just the teeth themselves, but allows the rest of the blade to be flexible enough to bend but not break. The package clearly states that you cannot sharpen these teeth with a file, as you can with other saws who's teeth are less hard. If you look at the tips of the teeth under a magnifying glass, you can see some evidence of this hardening process. The teeth don't have a "set" which on normal saws creates a kerf. Instead the blade is ground in a way where the back of the blade is thinner than the front of the blade where the teeth are. My package warned against touching the teeth with bare hands, and this advice is worth paying attention ... MoreWhat seems to set Silky's apart is their "impulse hardening" tooth treatment. My package warned against touching the teeth with bare hands, and this advice is worth paying attention to ! The teeth just barely brushed up against one of my fingers and I got several cuts, so the teeth truly are sharp as razors. It can't be cheap to create these sorts of blades, so that's where the extra cost comes in. Over the long haul, my sense is that what you are paying for is initial sharpness, as well as teeth which will retain their sharpness considerably longer than other saws.

Savage cutting, nice size.

I bought a silky pocketboy to process wood for my biolite stove. It worked admirably but was a little small for the big trees we get out here on the west coast. My mom loved it for gardening so I let her have it and got this. It's a much nicer size. It still fits on the main strap of my backpack but can can much larger rounds. And whoa do these saws cut. Be very respectful of them. My fingers got some stories. This is a straight blade saw. Its not quite as fast as a curved saw but it will allow you to build things better like campfire benches, steps/ladders etc. If you won't be doing any building and just want to cut wood then you should get a curved blade for sure.

I think this saw is very nice for pruning. It's got medium size teeth that are very sharp so it makes nice clean cuts on smaller size limbs. It's light weight, razor sharp, and has a nice rubbery grip for a handle that's ergonomic. It comes in a neat little plastic carry case. It's also got a hole for a lanyard. It's not a hand saw that i would carry every day for removals, only because the blade length is kind of short. I got it on sale and love having it in my toll box especially for ornimentals pruning. Def would recommend anything silky.

Works great when used properly

Silky offers three main folding pack saws and this is the middle guy. Middle length middle teeth.I've found it does not perform well on wet wood or anything over 6*. If you want a does it all main saw buy the silky bigboy with the bigger teeth. The gomboy fits in any pack, I use it most for processing firewood, great for making shorter peices to chop into kindling. But it's so small and light I basically always toss it into my daypack even when I bike. Never know when there's a branch that is in the trail and you want to do other binders a favor.Still you need to be a bit wise using this saw. It's a PULL saw and forceful pushing will bend the blade, I know this the hard way though fortunately I didn't actually damage mine. Just a slight curve near the tip ... MoreSilky offers three main folding pack saws and this is the middle guy.
