A clear, accurate compass. Luminous marks for night use. My only negative is the small graduated scales, I prefer the simpler 1/25000 on one edge with 1/50000 on the other.

A well made compass, with some nice features, like: Luminous where it needs to be; Magnifying lens; Three non-slip pads to stop it sliding around on your map; Declination (or Variation) scale; Three Romer scales; cm / mm ruler; Inch / 1/16" ruler. The compass needle comes to rest quickly. Still a lot of money, but one of the better compasses for hiking, etc.

Not had a sighting compass before so need to read the instructions properly. Item has good reviews and is made in Finland though they are now being made in China, which I dont think will do the makers reputation much good at all.so I was pleased to get one actually made in Finland.They have a good reputation for quality. A good buy at a reasonable price for a brand new compass.
I think it cost me 18 with postage, light weight and great value. I'm just starting out learning how to use a compass and this is ideal. I've found loads of videos on YouTube on how to use. It's simple with the silva 3 step system. Definitely recommend for a first compass.

These are just perfect for our Scouts to use on their gold expedition hikesWe have used them before and are easy to use.Would recommend them
I ordered this to replace the one I lost. It seems to be the same - just the lanyard is not the same quality but that’s a small issue. I wouldn’t be able to review the compass properly until I’ve been out and used it. I see that Silva are now using Chinese manufacturers, but I am assuming that they still conform to Silva’s high standards. The only thing I’m a little disappointed about is that the latest Silva4 Expedition with adjustable declination scale and measurement lanyard is available online for just a few pounds more than the one I bought. I would have bought the latest edition had I known that. Price good, delivery good and product I assume to be good. I have, however, learned to take some time to shop around more before my next outdoor kit purchase.
This compass is lightweight but very well made, having a hardened plastic housing. It's also very accurate and easy to use. Overall great compass.
The best compass around for general hillwalking and mountaineering. Over the years, the durability of some silva type 4 comes into question, i've seen some issues with the liquid in the housing either leaking or getting a bubble in it. But generally they are reliable, practical and user friendly.
