Being aware of the 12 rods and plastic shoulder pad that come standard, I bought this rig as a starting point to build out a larger rig. I added an offset riser with 6 rods and an upgraded shoulder pad for a more comfortable rig. With those simple additions, this is now one of my favorite setups for shooting video. Typical Smallrig quality and performance that keeps me returning to this brand. This is a great starting point for building a practical and affordable shoulder rig.

I think the unit is basically a good idea but, in my view, it has a couple of areas that could be improved.First, the 12 inch rods that come standard with it are too short. With the 12 inch rods the camera was practically right up against my nose. I ended up buying the 18 inch rods to give me some breathing room. In my view,the unit should come standard with 18 inch rods which could be slid backfurther on to the shoulder pad if you prefer to have the camera closer. At least with the 18 inch rods you have the option.Second, I found that the shoulder pad did not stay steady on the shoulder, the surface is too smooth and the rig tended to slide a bit. For the price, you can't beat this. I found myself wishing I had a little extra length on the rods, and an offset monitor is almost necessary to not strain your neck looking at the picture, but it is good quality gear none-the-less.
I have 5 professional-3 stage tripods that take time to set up. I wanted something I could just grab to catch ENG clips. This was the right choice.
The rig is easy to put together and seems sturdy.Great purchase for a tight budget.I recommend getting this item and adding a more comfy shoulder pad as the one that comes with it is too thin and small.
The shoulder pad is like plastic, which makes it very uncomfortable. Don't buy this if you have a heavy camera. The screws don't tighten all the way, making it feel very loose at points. Save the cash and buy something more high quality.
Even with its light weight, it can support pro level sized cameras.
Smallrig top quality as always, but be advised you probably will need to buy 2 more extra rods and a riser as I found it to too small for me lengthwise. Shoulder pad is a bit stiff too for my liking. But otherwise a very solid first rig.
Great product. Would've liked the round bars longer resting on my shoulders
