What is the point? t will not stay locked on. Dangerous for the equipment attached and a total pain the rear.

The cold shoe comes with a 1/4 thread at the bottom providing another way to mount if available. Adjustment is required, thankfully, the allen key is included.

This Monitor Mount by Smallrig is solid and the holes to use an Allen wrench to tighten it are useful, however, unfortunately the screw on top is very short and it doesn't enter in my monitor's attachment (Desview R7), when I have the rubber cage on it. (The Cold Shoe mount that came with the monitor has that millimiter more that allows it to screw inside, however its quality seems inferior, that's why I was looking for a better monitor mount)

Small and compact monitor mount Solid build and great addition for attaching monitors and Atomos products.
Updating my review from 5 hours earlier... Yes, the one stating this thing was wunderbar. Well, it's not so wunderbar after all as I initially believed and wrote. The problem causing me to return the two that I bought was that it doesn't swivel, unlike the knock-off one in the pic I compared it to. The contact patch was twice as large but after I buttoned things up I realized it wouldn't rotate, only tilt! Bummer USA. The product description clearly mentions TILT but silent on the SWIVEL questions because it doesn't. Oh, SmallRig does make one that tilts AND swivels but on reading the reviews you'll see complaints that adjusting the tilt drag entails removing the cover plates and adjusting the swivel drag means doing something with tiny phillips screws that are ... Oh, SmallRig does make one that tilts AND swivels but on reading the reviews you'll see complaints that adjusting the tilt drag entails removing the cover plates and adjusting the swivel drag means doing something with tiny phillips screws that are bound to strip and pull out. Hardly convenient like this one allowing access to drag points via an allen wrench. So while it does what is says it does I need it to do what I WANT it to do, mainly both tilt AND swivel without all the hassle of their other model. The knock-off I planned to replace it with can clearly do this so SR needs to make one the quality and ease of THIS one and toss that other complicated version in the trash. Delivered at 10:30 and by 12:30 I got the RMA and all boxed up and ready to send back. I had such high hopes for this and now I'm crestfallen. (sigh)
I've always been impressed by SmallRig's products and this is no exception. The tilting motion is really stiff so the monitor doesn't just move under its own weight which was a concern of mine. Both the cold shoe mount and the 1/4 threaded mount can be tightened down nicely. Definitely recommend.
It becomes one with the smallrig cage. The cold shoe allows you to mount pretty much anywhere and it has a 1/4 thread below the cold shoe for more versatility while mounting.
Bought two of these (on special) after putting up with an eBay knock-off and here's my observations. 1) Using the knock-off, the Atomos Ninja kept twisting when rotated no matter how tight the screw. Had to resort to drilling holes in the knob that would accept the allen wrench so I could really crank down hoping to prevent rotation. (What an aggravation.) 2) The SmallRig has a WIDER base (see pics) that provides a greater bearing area for monitor contact preventing rotation for the most part. (There are PRE-DRILLED holes in the SmallRig should you need extra torque on tightening.) 3) Contrary to bad information to the questions about the shoe not having 1/4 20 threads.... YES it does have threads. (See pic.) So get this puppy instead of the other garbage lurking in ... I have many monitor mounts from SmallRig and others. I wanted one that had a little less height for a different setup where I didn't need the monitor to swivel. Does what it's supposed to. Typical SmallRig excellent quality.
I bought this mount because I wanted limited movement (forward and back) on my monitor. What I learned first and foremost is FINGER TIGHT isn't good enough. You have to use a camera tool and tighten this to your shoe or you are going to drop your monitor. Or stress your HDMI cable which will be the only thing keeping the rig off the deck. Use a Tool. I love the Wooden Camera Tool. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1438617-REG/wooden_camera_265800_multi_tool_metric_imperial_screwdriver.html
