This is my sixth pair of Merino Wool Boxer Brief and they're fantastic. I can't recommend these more. Every pair is super comfortable, wicks moisture incredibly well, and patterns are great. Everything also holds up nicely in the washer/dryer-which isn't necessarily the case with other brands. My goal is to fill my entire underwear drawer with these one day.

I cannot say enough good things about this product! I frequently go hiking, including along the Camino in northern Spain. I finally decided to switch from high-tech polyester underwear to merino wool underwear. I was not disappointed. These briefs really did wick away the moisture in my crotch. They did not ride up my butt due to the longer legs. And most important, they prevented chaffing in my crotch, since there were not any direct seams that rubbed against me. I wore them on several hiking trips during a recent heatwave and liked these Smartwool briefs so much that I bought another 3 pairs. And they wash up quite easily, without any "pilling". Well done!

These boxer briefs are super comfortable and I love having merino wool against ALL of me. I did notice the leg fabric bunches a small bit upward. It wasn't a torsional bunching so I didn't feel like I needed to adjust it but something more to hold the legs in place could be nice. They work really well for daily wear and for day hiking. I am interested to see how they do on a multi-day backpack trip, which is was I was really looking forward to (given wool's odor-resistant nature). After washing and line drying, I did not notice any shrinking. I also learned after I got them that the waist is stretchy nylon on the outside but lined with wool on the inside. Pretty dang smart.I got the Black Marble Wash color and love that it is a plant-based dye. I recently ... MoreThese boxer briefs are super comfortable and I love having merino wool against ALL of me. I recently learned a bit about how much dye typically goes into garments so this is a great first step in steering toward a more sustainable goal. I like these underwear and if they release more that have plant-based dye, I will buy more.#SmartwoolLove

I am a Smartwool believer so I went all-in on these boxer briefs and purchased a number of them but they missed the mark. I feel as though I have a standard-ish body shape at 5'10 and 178 lbs. The fit is clumsy and doesn't contour in the right places where other boxers I've tried are. The worst is that the bottom hem around the thighs fits loosely after just a little time wearing them. They fit like a pair of boxer briefs that have been in the crostini for years. Other products from Smartwool-yes! These? Nope.
I absolutely love these underwear for their fit, attractiveness, comfort, warmth ( or cooling!), moisture wicking, and functionality for an avid outdoor athlete. The fit is sleek and supportive. I'm of the camp that is glad there is not excessive room in the baggage compartment because I feel more secure in my activities. Following that logic, I am also really pleased there is no fly. There are a lot of pros and maybe one con* to that, but again I like the sleekness and support of not having an open piece of material. It's just a nuisance (*I guess, until it's not?). These wash well, are lightweight, very breathable, and merino just feels so much better for underwear than the usual nylon/polyester/spandex blends. And you can wear them year round because they are ... You'll never go back to anything else.
I'm really looking forward to adding these to my cold weather wardrobe in the cold season ahead. I'm not giving five stars only because I'm a little uncertain about the fit and how they'll wear overtime. Overall, I predict they're going to be great. I just received them and haven't had a chance to put them to use. So I can't comment on performance. They feel great to the touch. Regarding fit, at first try, they seem to be a bit trim on the backside, but comfortably loose enough on my legs. They fit as if maybe they're going to ride lower on my backside than I prefer. It's almost as if the cut is a trim fit, but not in the legs. I'm at the tip top end of my size range by the sizing chart. But I think sizing up might be too loose of a fit. Fit well but barely last a year. I originally bought a single pair a few years ago. Loved them so bought 4 more pairs. Unfortunately around the 10 month mark they wore through in the groin area and gotHoles. I submitted a warranty claim and smartwool gave me a gift card to replace. Over the courseOf a year and a half I had to replace all 5 pairs.Fast forward another 10 months and it happened again. I yet again submitted claim, got a gift card, etc. I just figured I would play this game until they fixed the quality. Then last week I submit a claim for my latest blowout, same process as usual, then toss the ripped pairs in the garbage. I get ab email from smartwool that I need more information and more images. Since I no longer have them I guess I'm out of luck. ... MoreFit well but barely last a year. The merino briefs are top notch - nothing beats them. They are comfortable, breathable, and resist odors like nothing else. Cotton briefs will smell after one day - merinos will stay fresh an entire week if you need them too, even if you sweat. I end up washing them about a third as often as I would cotton underwear. Additionally, they air dry very quickly. In a word, I highly recommend them not only for camping or backpacking trips, as they'll save you space and time, but also as everyday wear.
Does the perfect boxer brief exist? I think this is pretty darn close. The fit is the perfect balance of close to the skin, but not constraining. Warm and durable to boot. My only complaint might be said about any boxer. On a 100 degree summer day, these didn't cool very well. But at that temperature, what does?
I have figured out what the difference is between the old Merino 150 model boxer briefs and the new "Merino Boxer Briefs" (and they should just simple state this in the description) . The old 150s were very tight and the waist especially was tight and firm/stiff. I wear a medium but always had to get a large in the old 150s. So I just tried the new model "Merino" and the large is too loose. The waist band is now very soft and gives a lot..... like stretches several inches. So I can now go back to my usual size for the new version of these boxer briefs. They have finally corrected what was really a mistake in design that has been there for the last couple of years. Oh yeah, and in the description there is now 1 or 2 % more merino wool. OK. But the big difference is ...
