A great selection of great tasting coffees

A very stylish yet effective bean to cup machine. Much more user friendly than my previous Delonghi machine.Controls are easy to set up and use. Although there are no strength options, the strength may be adjusted by changing the grind setting.A minor fault is the narrow field width of the sensor in the grounds bin. Having just emptied the grounds then making two cups the empty indicator lit up again. The grounds must have just accumulated directly under the sensor.

Excellent beans to cup espresso automation in a sleek and stylish design. Easy to refill water reservoir and beans canister, and easy to empty used coffee grounds and water overflow. Starts up in about 1 minute, and produces a lovely rich crema. Long black option as well. And easy to use steam pipe for milk/alternative milk heating and frothing. Controls straightforward to use. Better alternative to Nespresso-type capsule machines that waste resources in packaging.

My main reason for choosing this particular machine were it's dimensions as I didn't want it to dominate the worktop. I was a bit apprehensive as I'd read several reviews about people experiencing problems with warning indicators for low water, coffee beans etc - however I couldn't be happier with it.It makes great coffee, is simple to use and looks really stylish. The steamer is great for lattes although I do warm the milk slightly first as I prefer it hotter than the machine makes it.What I have realised is that any servicing of the machine - refilling water tank, emptying drip tray etc must be done while the machine is switched on for the machine to recognise the action has been performed. I wonder if this is why some people have though their machine was ... MoreMy main reason for choosing this particular machine were it's dimensions as I didn't want it to dominate the worktop. Great machine, but some minor issues
16 October 2021

Overall I think this is a great machine. I upgraded after using a Nespresso pod machine for many years. I wanted to move to a machine that took beans, but didnt want a whole heap of parts and infrastructure to go with it. So this automatic machine appealed. It is stylish, easy to use, easy to clean, and makes a really great coffee. There are however a couple of minor issues that have caused me to drop one star. They arent show-stoppers, but given that this is by no means a cheap machine, I would have expected a little better There is a sensor to let you know when the amount of beans are getting too low and need to be topped up. However, this usually only lights up too late. When you are low on beans, it sometimes grinds what is left into a really weak shot and pours ... MoreOverall I think this is a great machine. They arent show-stoppers, but given that this is by no means a cheap machine, I would have expected a little better There is a sensor to let you know when the amount of beans are getting too low and need to be topped up. However, this usually only lights up too late. When you are low on beans, it sometimes grinds what is left into a really weak shot and pours it first before letting you know youre low on beans. If you dont notice this, the result is a really weak cup of coffee. Very hard to notice if youre poring a double shot and dont notice the watery colour at the time. I would have expected that this sensor would kick in sooner and stop you from being able to pour a weak shot. The sensor for the coffee grounds bin is wildly inconsistent. Sometimes I can pour one shot and it tells me the bin is full. Other times I can pour 4 shots before it tells me it is full. When this sensor comes on, the machine wont let you do anything else until it is emptied. This can slow things down significantly if youre making a few cups and need to constantly empty. The bin seems to have a lot more capacity than the sensor sometimes allows for. Linked to the above point, when the coffee grounds bin alert is on, you cant do anything else - including using the milk steamer. This can be very annoying. Assume youre making 2 cups of coffee which need 4 shots in total. You pour out the coffee and then want to steam the milk. At this point Id usually rather steam the milk while the shots are fresh, pour the coffees, and clean up later. But the machine disables the milk steamer until you empty the grounds bin if it thinks its full. Meaning that while I do this, the shots of coffee sit cooling down before I can steam the milk.Once again - these arent show stopping points, but are small annoyances for the price point. Id still recommend the machine as it makes a great cup, the milk steamer is really effective, and it looks brilliant.

Lacking features
19 November 2022

Wouldnt buy another one. Cons. Doesnt stay on long enough.Doesnt make strong enough shots, two required. Steam wand is not powerful enough. Emptying grounds requires waiting for 17 light flashes otherwise it doesnt register as being completed. The white drip tray looks messy if any drips make it that far. Removable parts are not dishwasher safe so require hand washing. Pros. Looks nice when clean. Compact.

Man vs Machine

First and foremost this is a good coffee machine. The warm up time is quick, speed of brew is acceptable and makes great coffee. There are some negative points but as long as your learn that you are a mere human and must obey the coffee machine, your relationship with this machine will be just fine!Never, I repeat never, think that you'll empty or clean the machine without it instructing your to to do so, otherwise the machine will not trust you've done it correctly and will instruct you to do it again. Tris includes switching the machine off to clean it. No no, the machine has to be awake to supervise the human. And don't even think of being lazy when you clean the machine, because if you are too fast, you'll be expected to wash it again! I have leaned to obey the machine and things run smoothly!!In all seriousness. You must have the machine on to clean it. The waste bin needs emptying every 6 or so brews - it's quite small but is big enough for me to empty once daily. If you rush this and take less that 15-20 seconds the means doesn't reset the empty alert. The brewing unit also get cleaned with the machine on. I started cleaning this weekly, but the machine prompts me every couple of weeks - so I'm guessing every 40 or 50 cups. It's really easy to clean, rinse the removable parts in the sink and wipe the rest down.On the whole I am happy

Mary's review of Smeg BCC02RDMUK Automatic Bean To Cup Coffee Machine Red

Pros: Lovely coffee at the touch of a button with excellent créma and super easy thick frothed milk. It has a good sized water container. There is a Quick Start Guide for different coffee drinks eg Ristretto and we laminated this and keep it handy. It was easy to adjust for a longer ordinary default coffee. I particularly like that you can empty the drip tray without disturbing the used coffee grinds. It is necessary to read the manual. After all this is a serious, expensive bean to cup coffee maker. It doesn’t print out words on a reader telling you what to do, you have to interpret the flashing light. But it’s not rocket science, just good coffee science, and worth taking time to follow cleaning guidance etc. Lastly, it looks super cool on the worktop.

Ok Coffee Machine but some concerns
22 July 2022

Bought this about 9 months ago and it works well. The coffee it makes is good but there aren't a lot of options to tweak things like temperature. The waste dispenser is tiny and the machine will endlessly claim the dispenser is full even if it isn't. Water reservoir is adequate as is the coffee bean reservoir. It is easy to clean. However, after 6 months of daily use the logos on the top 4 buttons are beginning to rub off. Mainly the 2 commonly used buttons and soon I suspect they will be completely gone. No chemicals have been anywhere the machine. It only gets cleaned with a soft cloth with water. So while the machine is very attractive and coffee quality isn't bad, the build quality leaves a little to be desired. Amazing machine, love the design and clean lines. It's simple to use, water in the back, beans in the top and away you go. The bean compartment has a rubber seal to keep your beans always fresh. The power cable plugs in the back so its hidden from view. The coffee pucks fall into a internal waste bin which is easily removed for disposal and cleaning. Small foot print on the kitchen bench but bigger than my Nespresso Citiz. The steam wand works well and froths the milk better than my Lavazza frother. But if you are in a rush the Lavazza is quick, you don't need to watch it and easy to clean so I tend to use that more. The drip tray has a level float indicator that tells you when to empty it. The dispenser moves up and down to cater for a large size coffee mug without removing the drip tray. The machine does a pre warmup rinse and will also do an auto shutdown rinse. I typically have a double shot Ristretto latte in the morning in a mug. The three programmed sizes are Ristretto, Espresso and Coffee which are all very traditional Italian sizes. You can program the buttons to have longer pour time but why mess with tradition. No more buying wasteful coffee pods and figuring out how to dispose of them, just get your favourite coffee beans from your favourite coffee shop.

This is genuinely the worst piece of kitchen equipment
15 February 2023

This looks beautiful and cute, However there is nothing else good about it.It is the most annoying, needy and unreliable thing I ever bought. It blocks easily, particularly the brewing unit. The angle of the base of the coffee holder at the top is low, so beans don't reliably flow into the grinder. The water holder is small and there is no warning to tell you you are running low. It requires regular descaling and will actually refuse to function if you don't do it. And most annoyingly of all, it's auto-off function kicks in precisely 30 seconds before I need my next coffee.
