Smith Vantage MIPS Helmet French Navy / M

With the Vantage ski helmet, Smith has designed an exceptionally good helmet that not only ensures that you are very safe while skiing, but that you can also go down the slope very comfortably. This helmet has a hybrid SL helmet design that has the advantages of an in-mould helmet as well as a hardshell helmet. The hardshell part provides unparalleled strength while the sturdy in-mould part makes it a lightweight helmet. In addition, this edition of the Vantage has the MIPS safety system, which significantly reduces the rotational forces on your head during falls, giving you fewer headaches. The Aerocore construction keeps your head cooler by optimising air circulation in the helmet without sacrificing comfort. The AirEvac 2 system takes the warm air from the front of the helmet and transfers it to the back of the helmet. This will make your goggles less likely to blur and you will stay fresher for longer. The double regulator of the climate control allows you to regulate the amount of air supply yourself and thus to precisely determine the temperature inside the helmet. The Vantage has an anti-bacterial layer of nanosilver that prevents the growth of bacteria and fungi in the helmet and thus prevents unpleasant odours. To protect your ears, this helmet has SL2 earmuffs and you can easily attach your goggles to this helmet.

Based on numerous online recommendations I decided to order this helmet. It's really light but seems like it'll do a good job protecting my head. However, 2 problems. Firstly, when resting goggles on the helmet, i.e. off the face, they tend to slide up and flop off (but still held onto the back of the helmet with the strap) The best solution is to kinda keep the bottom edge of your goggles slightly over the front of the brim of the helmet. This deforms the foam on the goggle surround. Not great but Cest le vie. Especially annoying given that my goggles are a recent Smith model. Secondly, the fit of the helmet feels a bit boxy - too short from from front to back and too wide from side to side. Of course I've adjusted it as directed - but the sensation still remains. ...Ā MoreBased on numerous online recommendations I decided to order this helmet. I’ve had this helmet about three years now. Overall, it’s been a good helmet but I won’t buy another. First off, sizing runs small. I often wear a beanie or balaclava under my helmet. I should be squarely in the middle of a size medium but I have to open the BOA all the way to don’t a very thin merino wool beanie under. Second, Smith needs to re-think how the liner attaches. It doesn’t attach at all in the back and if you pull your hair up or wear a beanie in tends to bunch up making the sizing issue worse. This is probably my biggest complaint. I’ve looked at MIPS helmets from other manufacturers and all of them have a more secure liner attachment. Third, the two different plastic materials will discolor differently as the helmet ages. To me, that’s not a big deal and it suggests it’s time to start thinking about replacement. Last, goggle retention is mediocre. Other manufacturers have a little more ā€˜lip’ molded into the helmet to help keep the goggles from sliding off when you pull them up. Everything else is pretty good but all helmets at this price have good ventilation and decent audio compatibility. Again, it’s a good helmet but there are better options.

DO NOT BUY THIS HELMET. This helmet contains a serious design flaw where if the visor is bumped or hit in any way it will shatter under the logo and the adhesive keeping the shell on the helmet will come loose. You may be thinking, that smith would cover this under their warranty and you'd be incorrect. They will offer you 30% off coupon (the same you would receive if you hit a tree at full speed) so you can light more money on fire on their overpriced hemlets which are not structurally sound. How can a helmet that you drop from 2ft and it breaks keep you safe? Save your money.

Fits right between men's M and L
7 July 2021

Coming from a man... I previously had a Smith Vantage helmet in men's size large. Unfortunately, I busted it last year so I was looking to get into a new one. For context, I have a 58 cm head which puts me right in between a men's size M and L. I had the large but had to wear a thin beanie and crank the adjustment to the smallest setting to fit well. I initially ordered a men's medium, but it was very snug on my head and would barely squeeze on at the largest setting.I then found the women's version (on sale for slightly less than the men's at the time) and decided to try the large. From research, it looked like the women's sizing is identical to the men's, but the women's large seems to fit my head perfectly, right between the men's M and L sizes. Looks like I'll be rocking a dusty pink/eggplant helmet for a few years, but it's 2021 and I ain't complaining. The Vantage is the best helmet I've ever worn and am a Smith customer for life. Sorry for the long-winded review, but hopefully this helps someone else in a similar boat as me :)

Impressed! Long- time skier, first helmet
2 April 2023

I have skied over 45 years, and have never worn a helmet. We live 20 minutes from the resort base, I researched helmets and am amazed at how I immediately adapted to it. No more cold earlobes where my buff and hat used to slip around. The boa adjustment really cradles your head. I ski with headphones and the removable ear pads let me to keep my tune system intact— but didn’t change the warmth factor. The vents are easy to reach and easily adjusted. The suggested measurements on this model were spot on—would have paid more and converted sooner had I known — just fits great and feels comfy and secure.

Just buy the best quality
27 January 2023

I had to replace my previous Smith Vantage helmet after a full impact collision where I sailed through the air and the helmet took the beating. Fortunately, I was not injured, but the skier who hit me fractured some bones, so I was lucky. Or…..my Smith helmet saved me! This is what I think and I replaced it immediately with same top end technology from Smith. Movatik’s service was very quick and I was wearing my new helmet in days.If you are wearing a helmet without Koroyd or MIPS technology - replace it now! Could save you from a TBI, which is very serious.

Love this helmet BUT
26 November 2022

I have been searching for this helmet in Matte birch in my size for a little while. Just got it in the mail today, and its a great fit and has great features (MIPS, ventilation, padding, etc.). The sizing is small - so do size up. Trust the measurements on the website and if you are at the very end of the band, order a size up so its not too snug. However, I'm SO bummed because the finish is already peeling? I love the fit and style of this helmet but am worried for over $200 that the finish won't hold up which is a huge letdown. Has anyone else had issues with the film/finish??Overall, I still think its a great helmet but something must have went awry with the curing of the finish.Best,Ashley

Used this so far this season and I'm actually happier than I thought I'd be! Still, only 4 stars for a single reason (see below). Why I went with this (and paid more for it) over all the other models:- lightweight: one of the lightest models out there (until you get into the dedicated AT helmets). But this is light enough, I'll still tour with it.- lots of vents...more vents than the rest...and the ability to close the ones on top when the weather gets too cold or it's snowing. You can even independently close the top vents in front fro the top vents in back. Great customization to meet the needs of the day.- comfortable: although the liner is quite thin. I was initially suspicious of how my head would feel after wearing it all day but other reviews said it was good so I took the gamble and went with it. I'm very pleasantly surprised!- Nice little brim. It keeps snow off the top of the googles and slightly shields the sun. And it's vented so goggles will vent up through it.- sounds shallow but I guess it matters:..it's one of the best looking helmets out there. And it comes it a wide variety of colors instead of the standard black/white/grey. I went with navy blue, which is a surprisingly rate site on the slopes - I like it!My ONLY complaint: I paid the extra money for the MIPS version. When I got home and took a deeper look into the helmet I noticed the MIPS liner actually blocks a few of the vents. Why would they put in all these amazing vents and then totally obstruct them by putting the plastic MIPS liner over them? I thought it might be a defect so I called REI customer service. They told me it wasn't a defect. Unsatisfied, I reached out directly to Smith and they told me the same thing. It doesn't really make sense to me why they wouldn't create slits in the MIPS liner to match up exactly to all the vents on the helmet...seems to me like an oversight they aren't willing to admit. BUT...I haven't felt overheated even on a 35 degree day. We'll see when it's a true spring day though.Overall, I'm glad I paid a little more for this helmet.

Smith Vantage vs Giro Neo
15 March 2023

I'm an Asian with 61cm head measurement. The Smith wasn't the Asian fit model. It didn't fit comfortably. Hot spots on the sides. I ended up buying a Giro Neo Asian fit. It fits great and matches perfectly with my Smith I/O MAG XL (Asian Fit) Snow Goggles. I skied a 10°F day this recently and while my toes froze, the Giro kept me warm. However, I've never had a cold head with any helmet. My observations regarding the Smith Vantage vs Giro Neo:1. The Smith adjustment dial operates more smoothly.2. The Smith seemed to be more hefty but comparable in weight to the Giro.3. The Giro was half the cost.4. Head shape is critical for optimum fit.BTW My buddy (white guy) bought the Smith Vantage and has no complaints.

True that it runs small
1 December 2021

I bought my Vantage on sale (not sure I would purchased at full price) over Black Friday and it just came in. I’ve been wearing it around my apartment because, well, #safety. My noggin measured 56-57cm circumference so I was going to get a medium but after reading reviews and seeing that the helmet runs small I decided I’d try a large first. My head feels perfectly ā€œinā€ the helmet. The profile is low on top and the design of the helmet looks amazing. I expected it to look somewhat ā€œdorkyā€ being that it’s a tech helmet but to my surprise it’s one of the best looking helmets I’ve worn and I’m happy to say my steeze level shot up a solid 3 notches. The helmet’s loose when first put on but I’m able to tighten the boa system to get a snug fit. I have to tighten it a fair amount to get it snug, as expected considering I’m 3cm smaller than the size chart yet there’s still room to spare. When making this helmet fit as tight as possible then removing it, there are still 3-9 audible notches until maxed out. This gives me great options to 1) really crank down on my head if I so desire; if I ever want to get an immediate headache (although might be difficult with how dang comfortable this thing really is), 2) wear it normally and comfortably all day, and 3) put really any thickness of beanie I want on underneath the helmet as there’s plenty of room.I won’t be able to test out the warmth/ventilation until next weekend when I can finally shred but the design is awesome. The helmet fits perfectly under my jacket hood in case there are crappy conditions. My Airbrake goggles fit seamlessly without any gap (still waiting for my Flight Decks to arrive). And I absolutely love the sand/khaki color!I really couldn’t have been more satisfied with my purchase and I can’t wait to wear it all day for a true review. From the slight amount of time I’ve had it: IT’S WORTH THE PRICE (but see if you can get it on sale cause who doesn’t love saving money). With the addition of a picture: I think it looks astounding from the front and would love to show that off however, I feel that as a viewer, you can pick up more information from a side view.
