This is a really short game, I know Sonic games in general are pretty short, but to charge this game at full price is outrageous. (Blame SEGA, not MightyApe)This game has 11 Zones, the first 8 are decent but as soon as you start Zone 9, the game gets frustrating. All the bosses are purposely designed to waste your time. Sure, they are learnable and masterable, but they're designed in a way where bosses are very slow paced and take up a lot of your time. I know this was because of the 4 Player Co-op but I wish we had singleplayer balancing.I won't go into spoilers but the extra content you get from beating the game aren't much better. The new bosses are more frustrating and cheap than the main story, unless if you are really patient and take your time to ... MoreThis is a really short game, I know Sonic games in general are pretty short, but to charge this game at full price is outrageous. The game just leaves a sour taste in my mouth after beating it because it is gonna be hard to come back and replay this game because of it's flaws. It's a shame because this game is decent if you look past it's negatives and it has some great concepts too like the emerald powers. (Although some of the powers are too situational to be used practically during normal gameplay)If you really want to play this game, please don't spend full price on it. I would recommend waiting for a sale and/or buying this second hand.

If you're a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, you'll know we've had a rough couple of decades with consistently bad games from Sega. It seemed things would change with the release of Sonic Mania, which was genuinely the first Sonic game I've enjoyed since the Sonic Advance trilogy on GBA (and before that, the original trilogy on Genesis). Ironically, Mania was developed by fans and not Sega employees.Seeing how Nintendo knocked it out of the park with Super Mario Wonder, and judging strictly on screenshots of the game, I bought this without reading the reviews. BIG mistake. It performs very poorly on the Switch; constant stuttering during loading screens (why are the loading screens so long and stuttery on a flash cart?). And the music is generic and forgettable.Coming off of the heels of Wonder, which at every step you could feel the developers actually cared about their work, I was so excited to experience the thrill of the original Sonic the Hedgehog games. What I got was a waste of $60. Buyer beware, and stay far away from any Sega developed Sonic game unless you really know what you're doing, or you like to suffer.

This is the best side scrolling Sonic Game to come out in a while! Sonic Superstars offers a great mix of challenge and just straight up fun. Co-Op can be played on one cartridge which is really nice but only locally. The Co-Op is very forgiving as compared to Super Mario Wonder. If one of you shoots off past the screen, you're not killed or anything and you can come back whenever you want. In Super Mario Wonder if you get pushed off the screen you have to frantically fly your ghost over to the one leading before your 5 seconds run out which was kind of an annoyance to me.This game really does feel like Sega is going in the right direction and can definitely say that it's fun playing solo and with friends. I came across one glitch where it thought I was still in the water so I was slow and loosing air, ultimately dying. But that was the only glitch I've encountered while playing so far.Great game! Super Mario Wonder is too but it's just not as fun to play Co-Op as Sonic Superstars is locally.

To be honest, I always found being a Sonic part of a very divided community to be extremely exhausting. Because of that, I will say to anyone who disagrees or doesn't agree as much, read at your own discretion. Anyway, I didn't hear too much about this game and anything I did hear, didn't sound good Personally so far from what I played, it is CRAZY. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are playable and that is a given, but Amy being playable and also being a lot more versatile than in games like the Sonic Advance games made her a lot of fun to play. I always loved seeing the other characters traveling with you in the background too. Doing something even Mario hasn't really done (If not, not the first one to do that then). I always loved seeing the other characters traveling with you in the background too. Doing something even Mario hasn't really done (If not, not the first one to do that then). I would definitely prefer this to have 3 acts and not only 2. 1 on one of the zones (which was underwhelming honestly. Should have had more than one like the rest of them). I like that Nack the Weasel (better known as Fang the Sniper, though Nack the Weasel is his original name from Sonic Triple Trouble and the name I prefer) returns, and it seems we got a new villain as well. I will say it's weird seeing Nack work for Eggman this time, as I would rather he be like a third party type of enemy like he was in Sonic Triple Trouble. Another issue I have, I'm hoping this will be the last time we get anything "Classic" Sonic. I was personally hoping for a brand new Sonic game that was 2D and focusing more on the current times rather than paying homage yet again to the 90s Sonic titles. However, I am willing to take what I can get, as I do LOVE this game.
Good game but it is not worth 60 dollars. I bought this game on a sale for 20 dollars and I think that is a great price for this game. The game controls very well, I like the stages' design and the music.Cons of this game are that some bosses take too long to take down, the battle mode is lackluster, and the game was not built for multiplayer. Also how they handled DLC is bad. The cel-shaded skins are only obtainable by making an account with Kroger rewards points and buying products at Kroger-owned stores to redeem the DLC skins for consoles only. And the Modern Amy skin is no longer obtainable. I like this game and the main campaign but I feel that I should point out some of the problems with this game.
For $60 absolutly not, on sale sure. The game has 2 player for the main story so thats the only reason for purchase. It has great graphics, cute art style but beyond that its really just another easy cash grab of levels redone. I have been a long time Sonic fan & thankfully this game is short. My sister who grew up on the Genesis loves it. I however dont get the hype. I really wish Sega would listen to its fan base, make Sonic Advanced Remastered & Add Shadow in. Also remake the adventure series. I felt forces was better than this game, and Frontiers blows this game out of the water. I guess its really prefrence though. If you want an easy 2D Sonic game this is for you, if your looking for a different experience that hasnt been rehased for 3 decades this isnt for you.
Nice visuals, but still the usual sonic movement issues. If you're a big sonic fan and know the nuances of how to succeed/play, you'll be right at home. If you're like the rest of us, the game does almost nothing to teach you how to get and maintain motion in order to navigate levels. I was constantly losing momentum - that and the bosses are as basic as ever. Poor hit boxes, unresponsive and loose sonic jumping, etc. Mini-game worlds are basic and gimmicky. This game is about doing more of the same, continued lack of quality of life included. Pair that with Sega promoting the game as including an acrylic standee that very few actually received, and you've got an FTC-worthy issue in false advertising. They said low sales was a result of releasing alongside Super Mario Wonder, oh I think not. I am just being honest and no disrespect, but this game is not fun to play. So many mid-game interruptions for little mini games and such, it's exhausting. Along with that, same over all problem I have with 2D Sonic, yes, he is fast but most of the time I am watching him zip from one side of the screen to the other with no real gameplay element other than watching. Level design is not great either, levels are not really memorable. I do like when finishing a level, you can just continue on. I'll stop here. Look if you love Sonic then buy the game, you can. Just my thoughts.
Sonic Superstars being the next 2D Sonic game and is in 2.5D is an interesting choice. The multiplayer looked like fun (haven’t tried it but heard not so good things about it. Sonic Superstars was a fun time, but it has frustrations that couldn’t make it a favorite for me. The game overall looks visually amazing, oozing with color and character, love the animated intro and cutscenes. Seeing that being a trend with new Sonic games is really cool. Each Zone is unique and fun to explore in their own ways. The story isn’t anything special either, it’s cool to see Fang come back after DECADES of absence, but his fights were underwhelming and annoyingly slow. Trip is a great addition to the cast of Sonic characters and I hope she returns! She’s a cute character and love her interaction with Amy in the story. Overall, it’s a basic stop Dr. Eggman story as usual.HOWEVER, I have gripes. The music is a letdown compared to other Sonic soundtracks. They need to stop replicating the Genesis music and stick to what worked in Sonic Mania in terms of music. The bosses are probably the worst in the series. It’s a waiting game that takes too long to progress with hitboxes that are inconsistent… they drag the game down for me and felt janky to fight the majority of them…Overall, Sonic Superstars is still at its core a good game but it is flawed. Not the worst in the series compared to other games in the series. I recommend getting it at a discount. I got it during Black Friday for $40, it’s not worth $60. That price is a HUGE ask for a Sonic game with major problems…
Sonic Superstars requires teamwork on the Nintendo Switch. The voice acting is decent, but not outstanding. The gameplay is where Sonic Superstars shines and falters at the same time. The game is still a 2D platformer, but it has more emphasis on exploration and secrets than speed and momentum. The stages are colorful and creative, with many gimmicks and hidden paths to discover. The game also introduces the Chaos Emerald powers, which grant the characters different abilities, such as flying, swimming, freezing, and teleporting. These powers add some variety and fun to the gameplay, but they also make the game easier and slower. The game lacks the thrill and challenge of the classic Sonic games, where you had to rely on your skills and reflexes to overcome obstacles and enemies. The game also has a co-op mode, where up to four players can play together on the same screen. This mode can be chaotic and enjoyable, but it also has some problems. The camera can be hard to follow, especially when the players are far apart or moving fast. The game also does not have online multiplayer, which limits the options for playing with friends. The game has a good presentation, with vibrant graphics and catchy music. The game looks like a modern version of the Genesis classics, with smooth animations and detailed backgrounds. The music is upbeat and fitting, with some remixes of old tunes and some new ones. The sound effects are also well-done, with the familiar sounds of rings, jumps, and spins.Sonic Superstars is a game that will appeal to fans of the blue hedgehog, but it is not a masterpiece. It has some good ideas and features, but it also has some flaws and limitations. It is a fun and charming game, but not a super one.My rating: 9.5/10
