But if you crank the volume and attempt a multi hour, high volume party, the AMP will likely to heat up, go into thermal protection mode and shut off ...assuming the output circuits don't short out and become permanently damaged.

It is certainly a good looking bit of kit and if you are all about controlling your music through an app on your phone then it is probably ideal.Just personal preference, if I had my time again I would have spent my money on an amp that had more control on the unit itself. My wife does not use it even though I have offered to download the app to her phone, so it has limited use. We use android phones so unlike iphones with airplay you cannot stream directly to the amp. Originally, we heard rumors of a mass shift from S1 that rendered all Sonos investors before me product useless, scared me a bit. To this day, I still pray Sonos does not sunset my versions placing me in a stuck stance for expanding my product suite, because this brand is worth it. With respect the the amp, I have 5 running my home, and absolutely love it. I did not purchase the in-wall speakers but they power my Martin Logan speakers amazingly. Since that initial blow to the pockets, I've expanded to having 5 Play 1's, 4 Play 3s, 2 Roams, 2 Moves, 4 Play 5s, Arc, Beam and 5 Subs across my house and cabin, so needless to say...I'm all in. I've invested over 20k in my media room surround (I know, not much to some) but will the distinction Sonos produced with a 3:1 surround can actually sound better. Now, when it comes to gut crunching, mind bending movies and shows...they are ok. Still a good experience but don't hold up at super high volumes. The Play 1s in either surround or in stereo are my favorite of the Speakers, they are cost effective comparatively, and give a great whole sounds with minimal footprint. I could go on and on about how much I enjoy all aspects of Sonos products and their insanely good reliability, but for anyone reading this, if you are on the fence, the investment is worth it...whatever you are buying now, won't be your last

The Iphone SONOS app serves as the remote control. Music is streamed over wifi or ethernet directly from router to the SONOS Amp. Music is not streamed from phone so you can take phone calls with sound through phone while music still plays through SONOS Amp.Another reason I purchased the SONOS Amp is so that TV sound would be immediatly played through external speakers through the SONOS Amp when the TV is turned on. This is possible because the SONOS Amp has an HDMI ARC connection to the TVs HDMI ARC port. I can also choose to play music on the SONOS Amp to the external speakers and let the TV play sound through its own speaker.By using the Niles speaker selector switch, I can listen to the TV sound or music in all the speaker zones or choose which ones with the selector switch on/off buttons. However, I can't play the TV through one zone and music through others with the selector switch. I would have to use the TV speakers for the sound on the porch while listenting to music around the pool throught the SONOS Amp.If I wanted to play TV sound through my external porch speakers while playing music through my pool speakers, I would need to purchase a second SONOS Amp connected to the porch external speakers directly without going through the Niles Speaker Selector box. I don't know however, if when I played music through the two SONOS Amps whether there would be sound delay for the sound going to the pool speakers through the Niles Speaker Selector and sound going to the porch speakers directly from the 2nd SONOS Amp. However, at this time I have no desire to do this so connecting one SONOS Amp to the Niles Selector Switch which will be connected to my 6 pair of external speakers surrounding the pool, fire pit and screen porch meets my needs and easy to control.Also by not spending extra money on multiple SONOS Amps I am putting money into high quality outdoor speakers. I just purchased a pair of Paradigm 470 outdoor speakers with 7 1/2 inch woofers for the TV surround sound under my porch. The SONOS Amp provides a very good simulated center channel when playing these two speakers through my Niles Selector Switch.I also have an existing pair of Klipsch 650 rock speakers with excellent sound that replaced a pair of Bose Freespace 51 speakers that were also excellent but didn't survived the cold and rainy weather over many years and lost their base and clarity of sound. l will continue using an old pair of infiniti outrigger speakers over a section of outdoor decking which sound good but don't match the richness and base of the high end Klipsch 650 rock speakers or Paradigm 470. I have not had a chance yet to reroute the wiring to the SONUS Amp to compare the Klipsch 650 rock speakers to the to the Paradigm 470 speakers. I have yet to decide on the speakers for the other zones.The SONUS amp also has a connection for an external subwoofer. I don't think I need it but I will test it with a subwoofer I use indoors to see whether to also purchase an outdoor subwoofer.

This is a strange product as it's not good for either side if you are looking for a budget friendly option or if you have tons of money.If you're trying to save money and play high quality music, get a used previous gen amp in a better tier and they will have so many more features and their amps will be better quality. This, the bluesound edge and bose's amp are music first and are literally just for simplicity. But if money is tight and you want to save, they all are expensive for what limited features they have, no e-arc, no screen, contentious relationship with tidal, or even wifi 6 (perhaps not needed, but probably costs them $2-3 dollars extra). It's literally software and they went with a 2 band eq for a product for "audiophiles."If you have lots of money and expensive speakers and are that meticulous about sound quality enough to get into audiophile speakers, you should probably get a better amp. Why spend thousands on speakers and $700 on a basic amp? If you just want music and basic connectivity and you don't care that much about sound quality and features, why bother with hifi in the first place? This would be like putting a camry engine in a la ferrari. It'll work, but why? If you have money, why waste time and money on expensive equipment to have it run by this?Please buy something else.
This works great when connected to my Martin Logan bookshelf speakers and matching subwoofer. It works so well with my Spotify account. I love how it is built into the app because so many devices require you to use Spotify connect which is cumbersome and flaky at times. Sonos has a real winner here. Btw, my Martin Logan speakers are 4 ohms and, according to the Sonos website, they are getting 250 watts each which is good because that is the maximum amount of power recommended by Martin Logan. Overall sounds great. There's only one thing that I don't like. I wish that Sonos would give me, an end user, the option to remove Sonos Radio from the list of inputs and utilized streaming services. Have set up with my B&W CM6's, a PV1D subwoofer and 2 x ERA 100 for surrounds. Sound is good for a minimalistic TV surround package and is far superior to any soundbar. Yes the amp lack's the audiophile purist fidelity of my previous setup, but for TV watching or streaming Spotify is as good as anything else out there.My wife has always struggled with multiple controls, and this amp running off the eArc HDMI is perfect for her. Everything is controlled from the TV remote. No complexity. Just turn the TV on and everything works straight away. It is the first HiFi component that we both are happy using.The ERA100 surrounds integrated prefect. The volume is preset to turn down during music playback and then reverts to normal for surround music.
