Beautiful sound in a beautiful capsule

In my 60sqm living room, I use it on less than 50% volume, 50% is already a bit too loud, so I can only imagine it could easily fill a much much bigger space with sound. On top of everything else, the speaker is beautiful, and looks like something that would stand in a designer store or another luxury venue. The capsule looks very modern due to the lack of physical buttons, but using the controls is still easy and very pleasant due to the haptic feedback. Overall, a great speaker for every use I could think of and an easy choice for lovers of high-quality sound. I heard various YT reviewers say Sonos has the best sound and now I know what they meant. They also said their speakers don't do well with Android navigation, but that wasn't my experience with this speaker. Bluetooth pairing, connection, and navigation were flawless with all my devices: Android phone, iPad, Windows laptop, and PC.

I am currently using a set of ERA 100 speakers on my home office desk. They are placed next to a 32-inch computer monitor that I use for both my personal Apple Mac Mini computer and my work MacBook Pro laptop. I have connected the speakers to a Lewitt Connect 6 through a single Sonos USB dongle, which is a great combination. I am able to use the speakers for Zoom calls, FaceTime, YouTube videos, and regular Sonos music, and everything sounds excellent. The best thing is that I don't need to switch between sources by pressing any buttons. However, I have noticed that there is a slight issue with the unconnected speaker. It takes about half a second for it to turn on after not receiving a signal for a while.

Like with so many products, Sonos really wants you to use their app. The app…doesn’t need to exist. The reality is most of us use one streaming service…which has an already good app. Many of us probably already have Spotify, Amazon Music, or Apple Music for free through some promotion anyway. If I use Spotify and Apple Music, once again I don’t need them combined in a slow clunky app when I can easily just switch between the two on my phone and use airplay instead of fighting through menus. I have to wonder if Sonos stopped with the app and fired the developers, maybe this product wouldn’t be so overpriced.Fantastic for AirPlay. Easy and quick to connect with only a few occasional connectivity issues. It is mounted on a shelf at about 6’ up on my 3-car garage/home gym wall. Even with the doors up the sound is good (not excellent or very good) and there is some bass but it struggles at times. It fills the space well and gives good energy (what you want for a gym). The sound can be muddy and the bass will struggle as some songs (rock and rap) are too much for the built-in sub. While the previous iteration may not have tried to go as low, it didn’t suffer from this issue. It happens at least once an hour I cringe as the speaker strains and crunches. I will occasionally switch to my Apple BeatsPro mid-workout and compared to the Sonos, they sound like a $10,000 audiophile’s dream system.I can not imagine spending $300-$1,000 on a SONOS subwoofer when the highs and mids are this muddy. You will be better served with a couple bookshelf speakers, sub, and a receiver with airplay or even an Echo Studio with subwoofer.Obviously this isn’t a high fidelity system and honestly Sonos, and Bose, need to stop selling these as “superior sound in a small footprint.” This is “great sound in very small footprint.” Perfect for a home gym, personal office, or a voice assistant with better audio clarity. Rather than picturing an individual bathing in the sound as they count the chords in perfect clarity of their favorite instrumental track, this is more of a teenager bouncing around blaring bubblegum pop on a budget.

Great sound quality and easy to use
24 February 2023

This is a great speaker with excellent sound quality. It was really easy to set up and use and there are multiple ways to connect and listen to music or audiobooks. Putting music on is as easy as asking Sonos and volume etc. can be voice controlled. An added bonus is the ability to connect to my e-library through Bluetooth. Now I can listen to my audiobooks without headphones while at home. The one slight annoyance I've noticed is that when connected to Spotify often a song will be skipped. This isn't a problem when listening to music on shuffle but if you are listening to a playlist with a specific order (like a musical soundtrack), songs are skipped and you don't hear the whole playlist. Impressive

The Sonos Era 100 is cleanly packaged and a seemingly rugged unit. Setup and going through the different features seemed pretty intuitive. I appreciate that, seeing as how I'm new to the Sonos platform. The first thing to do was to load the Sonos app. This would then provide tips/tutorials for how to set things up. Easy-peazy. During the setup, I used the Trueplay function so that the Era 100 would both project and listen to sound in order to create a more positive listening experience based upon the setting you've place it in. I can only imagine that, for example, the sound reproduction would have different needs in a room with hardwood floors, as opposed to a room with carpet...or a lot of upholstered furniture. I can only imagine that, for example, the sound reproduction would have different needs in a room with hardwood floors, as opposed to a room with carpet...or a lot of upholstered furniture. Anyway, it was cool to sit back and let it do its thing. I then had fun adding services which I already have subscriptions to - Apple Music, Amazon Music, and SiriusXM. This was very easy to do (again, using the Sonos app), as well as enabling Alexa voice functions and commands. I'm loving this speaker! There is an exhaustive list of services that can be added. All the popular ones, as well as sites I have never heard of. The connectivity of this speaker to different sources pretty much covers the gamut - WiFi, bluetooth, direct line, and Apple AirPlay. I'm not sure that I'll be using anything but WiFi (I have an android phone), and that's fine with me. But the others are there if I ever need them. Anyway, I'm loving the sound production of the Era 100 -- especially at low volume. It's impressive that a unit this small can continue to provide a punch at a low level. I would encourage anyone to visit the Sonos website and see the virtual, 3D, explosive view of the construction of this beautiful unit. It's no wonder the sound is so amazing. I'm glad that I started my Sonos journey with this new generation of speakers! Makes me wish I had two of these to fill our rather large living room more fully... maybe for Christmas? However, I need to say that having just the one Era 100 provides impressive sound to be enjoyed in a very large (20' x 24') room. You will not be disappointed.

Incredible sound and ease of use
26 February 2023

Amazing how sound quality has evolved with the latest generation of Sonos speakers. The sound is extremely spacious, balanced, and rich even with the Era 100. Surely you would get more clarity with a more expensive system but listening to music is big fun and you have great value for the money. Needless to say how easy to use and well-engineered Sonos is, making accessible ALL your music (streaming, radio, locally stored files) in ONE convenient interface. Finally, Sonos added Bluetooth and it works like a charm, allowing you to play Bluetooth sources in all rooms. With the growing availability of stable Wi-Fi, they dropped the LAN port, but on the other hand the Era supports Wi-Fi 6. A LAN port and line in can be added via adapter. I love my Sonos Era 100 speaker. I was looking to upgrade my Bose computer speakers in my home office to use it as a computer speaker and for streaming media from my iPhone and Apple TV. The Era 100 gave me the best connectivity feature with the Bluetooth support. Also, was able to reduce clutter by removing the audio cables going to my computer, purely using wireless (Bluetooth and airplay). The only issue I had was after setting up Wi-Fi, reason for giving it 4-stars. Moving to a different Wi-Fi SSID was a hassle. Rack audiophile converted to Sonos
16 April 2023

For just a little more money you get a lot more sound over the One or Roam Sonos speakers. I picked this up for the garage for days I’m cleaning the cars. Plenty of sound and great acoustics, I love the functionality of the whole home audio setup I have from Sonos. I have 4 Sonos Amps with my 16 ceiling / wall speakers throughout, 2 Subs, Arc, 2 Move, 2 Roam, 2 One speakers throughout the home in various places as well. The ability to control every speaker and the library with Apple and YouTube music at your fingertips it’s everything I need for a fraction of the high end home rack systems I’ve always had over the years. Thanks Sonos for making products that are good enough for a long time audiophile to enjoy and not feel like I’m missing something. I would really ... MoreFor just a little more money you get a lot more sound over the One or Roam Sonos speakers. I picked this up for the garage for days I’m cleaning the cars. Plenty of sound and great acoustics, I love the functionality of the whole home audio setup I have from Sonos. I would really like to see future expansion to allow more than 2 Subs on my system to increase overall presence of bass I am use to over the years.

Very pleased with my introduction into the SONOS ecosystem.

Kudos to SONOS in the environmentally friendly packaging. The ERA 100 looks like any other classic wireless speaker but goes well in any setting. especially in my office. Nice matte-black finish which does not smudge. It is a bit heavy and feels like it is well-built and durable. It's got intuitive touch controls and a volume "slider", which are responsive intuitive. The speaker is ready to go via Bluetooth, USB-C, or a 3.5mm connection (with a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle). Pairing is super easy. However, to get the most out of this unit it is extremely important to download the robust SONOS app. and setup the speaker. I originally thought the "Trueplay" was a bit gimmicky but found that it does make a difference acoustically. I originally thought the "Trueplay" was a bit gimmicky but found that it does make a difference acoustically. I am quite impressed with the overall sound. The bass is booming with that sub-woofer feeling. The mids are present enough to allow for crisp vocals, rhythm instruments, choruses, etc. The treble is well defined, adding clarity, and makes high frequency vocals, rifts, lead guitars, violin, and piano sound great. The speaker can get very loud and fills a mid-size room well. I found it a bit difficult to discern the left-right channel separation, even when listening closely and in front of it. Not a big deal to me. It is definitely an upgrade from the TV's speakers. Although the channel separation needs to be more accurate. I can't help but to wish for a second one for that true stereo experience. The ERA 100 recognized and responded accurately to every command without significant hiccups -even at decent distances. The SONOS' Radio, which comes included in the app is great. Just in case, the speaker is compatible with all other major music platforms. In the end, I am very pleased with the ERA 100 and my introduction to the SONOS ecosystem. It is certainly worth the value in my opinion.

Works well as surrounds and for music

I got a pair of these to replace 2 play 1's that are used as surrounds with an arc and 2 subs.I found that the play 1's would occasionally lose connection when playing as surrounds. There were no such issues with the Era 100's, and they sound better - a more engaging sound and presence. The only negative is that it would have been nice if they included upward firing speakers.I originally got a pair of Era 300 as surround replacements but returned them for the following reasons:1) They looked ugly, they were placed in the middle of an open plan room, and they were just not nice to look at, the back looked messy and they were and odd shape and quite large. They would have been better if they were at the front of the room as front surrounds, but they do not support ... MoreI got a pair of these to replace 2 play 1's that are used as surrounds with an arc and 2 subs.I found that the play 1's would occasionally lose connection when playing as surrounds.
