I should have bought this speaker a long time ago. I have the Sonos Five set up in my garage so when I’m working out, working on my car, or fiddling around I can listen to more than just nature and cars going by. It was simple to set up via WiFi after downloading the app. Since it’s setup over WiFi, if you get a phone call your music keeps playing. The only thing is that you can’t seem to start your music selection from the Apple Music app if you’re already on a phone call when trying to connect. I think you can do this however through the Sonos App. Either way, this is a great speaker. It’s plenty loud at half volume and the bass is pretty impressive, especially after playing with the EQ. I do plan on adding an actual subwoofer once I decide if it’s worth paying ... MoreI should have bought this speaker a long time ago. I do plan on adding an actual subwoofer once I decide if it’s worth paying $700 for the Sonos Amp to connect the Five and sub together. Oh, and according the Sonos, you can necessarily just go and get another brand’s Amp to use with it. It has to be theirs, which is kind of lame cause I don’t use my speaker THAT much to justify dishing out $700 just for the Amp, not including another $200 for a decent sub. But at the end of the day, the Sonos Five is excellent. I plan on buying another Sonos speaker for my back patio. Sonos makes great speakers!

I upgraded from the original Sonos Play Five, and let me say this is speaker is way better. The lows are exceptional, and the highs are clear with a present mid range. The digital to analog conversion is very high as well. I had originally purchased the Sonos Beam to go with my TV, and then started listening to music again from my iPhone because it was easy to listen from iTunes. I did not like the Beam for music listening but it was OK for TV. The Beam was returned to Best Buy. I decided to get the new Sonos 5 and I am completely floored at how complete it sounds. This speaker is so good, that I have decided to purchase another to make a stereo pair. This unit rivals high end monitors, and the ease of use with Airplay 2 if fun and quick. I was jumping from track to track to listen to music I haven't listened to in years. It is so fun to listen to music again with this speaker. The price is higher than the Bose 500, but way better low end. You will not regret your purchase. This speaker is the best purchase of the year!

I can comfortably say that my Fives were probably the only things that helped me keep my sanity while being locked indoors. As someone who loves listening to music, I thought buying bigger speakers meant a better listening experience. I should have known that with a 12-foot by 10-foot bedroom, I wasn't going to get amazing sound out of the box. I honestly thought I was duped at first because there was little to no bass, and the mids sounded jumbled. It wasn't until I moved into my new, much larger apartment that I unlocked somewhat of the full potential of the speakers. So if you live in a smaller space, maybe try a pair of Ones with a sub or go for a single Five. One major drawback is they don't connect to a common Wi-Fi for the whole building, so you must purchase ... MoreI can comfortably say that my Fives were probably the only things that helped me keep my sanity while being locked indoors. One major drawback is they don't connect to a common Wi-Fi for the whole building, so you must purchase a router. This makes the speakers obsolete without private Wi-Fi. As for the pros, these speakers blow everything else I have heard (in this budget range) out of the water. At 64 percent of the max volume, the pair shakes up a 30-foot by 40-foot apartment through walls and doors. I listen to a wide variety of music. Still, most of my playlists are bass-heavy, and I love hearing a nice warm resonating bump. Out of the box, the experience was underwhelming, but once you put the bass EQ to 10 and nudge the treble EQ up to 4, they sound phenomenal. My only regret with purchasing the pair of Fives is that I didn't get the Sonos Subwoofer with them. Any normal person would be happy with just a pair. But I want to FEEL my music, and I think the Sub would elevate the system to another level. It wasn't in my budget, but I hope to catch a break soon and afford the Sub. I probably missed a whole bunch of things in my review, but my concluding remarks are to go for it and purchase the Sonos Five. If you have the money, go for the pair, and if you're loaded, splurge for a pair with a sub.

Pros: Great sound - the function in the iPhone app to fine tune it for the space was great. Really like the integration with my own music library (from a standalone Mac Mini acting as a media server). Looks good (although feels a bit larger than I was expecting).Con: the app is… ok. I use Spotify, and using the Sonos app to find music instead of the native Spotify app is very poor in comparison, particularly browsing through playlists. It also doesn’t seem to play nicely with the Spotify app - if I start music playing in the Sonos app, it doesn’t show as playing in Spotify. If I control purely from Spotify it works ok, except the volume control doesn’t work very well, and obviously I can’t combine my own library or control radio from in there. I’d love to not use ... MorePros: Great sound - the function in the iPhone app to fine tune it for the space was great. I’d love to not use the Spotify app at all to control my music - but the Sonos app is just too basic and flawed. And for the price I’d expect voice control - like many of the cheaper Sonos models have. I’ve set up an Alexa near it to control it, but this is a bit hit-and-miss - integrated would be much better.Compared to the Amazon Echo it’s replacing, the sound quality is so much better, and the access to my local music library is something that was always lacking. But the software integration isn’t even in the same league. So not perfect - but if I have to compromise on anything, better to compromise on the app than the sound quality.Great, friendly, helpful service in Richer Sounds as always (Prestwich branch for a change - I usually go to Stockport) - thanks.
Let's start off with this sounds wise, hands down, Sonos speaker are awesome in performance and price. While that may seem a reason to buy them, lord know I bought 12, stop right there. Sonos needs an input to produce sound. Hands down, they simply don't work with Apple and Amazon in any manner that I can say "hey, that was a smart $6200 purchase." The software developed by Sonos is substandard and simply is, perhaps, the absolute least that a company could do so that it may work - until it sounds like a hurricane is playing on some, but not all, speakers. Forget about technical service. It simply does not exist. Unless you consider leaving a message and not getting a return call back; leaving a message is a privilege. Forget about resetting them up if you move. ... MoreLet's start off with this sounds wise, hands down, Sonos speaker are awesome in performance and price. I am the definition of Sonos target market that said if you are looking for a sound solution for your home that JUST WORKS, and that your wife won't hate because "it's hard to turn on" then you found it. From beams to arcs to subs, I wasn't paid for this I just love it so much I figured Sonos was due a tado!! So hears to you Sonos, thanks for letting me listen to the Gator game or well balanced surround while I type this review, in my master b.........In closing and for relational purposes I mention the 25k system. It's like this, if you have ever been in an S500 Mercedes then you know they are great cars, but right after you get out of a hand made custom rolls Royce, the S500 feels like a 92 Honda. That said, if you've never been in a rolls then just enjoy the ignorance of knowing that s500s are in fact super nice cars...
Purchased Play 5 to upgrade for Sonos 2. The Gen 1 Play 5 may have been my first Sonos purchase. I started with a bridge and one piece, then, two and then three, and over the last 10 years I am up to 16 pieces, which include 2 Sonos connects providing Sonos capabilities to 8 outdoor rated speakers (Bose) throughout my garden and in a garden workshop. I did upgrade to the Boost and recently purchased a refurbished play bar to replace the one that I gave to my daughter for her house. I am beyond midlife and have enjoyed the journey in learning how spectacular the Sonos system is and the sound that it brings throughout my living space both inside and out. I did upgrade to the Boost and recently purchased a refurbished play bar to replace the one that I gave to my daughter for her house. I am beyond midlife and have enjoyed the journey in learning how spectacular the Sonos system is and the sound that it brings throughout my living space both inside and out. I had no audio experience, but the love of music and knew the importance it has in resinating with ones soul. I gradually built the system based on grabbing on sale and as I could afford. I also gave a base level of Sonos system to both of my daughters for their homes. It was the suggestion of a salesperson in Best Buy who suggested that I might want to look at Sonos. It would then be through a series of online chat forums that I would learn how to set up connect to a receiver and then set up outdoor sounds. Bose outdoor rated speakers were purchased through Ebay, because the first set I found no longer was being manufactured, but they were the level of quality and price that I was looking for. My most recent guidance from Sonos site helped me reestablish connection of a Play 2 that I thought no longer worked. I learned that if you unplug and then hold the connection button onto of the speaker while plugging in it would then reestablish connection. And it worked. I was very excited. Each speaker has its own name and can literally have its own music - Led Zeppelin throughout the house and classical in the bathroom, and definitely Bob Dylan in the garden. Very cool. I would recommend evaluating your music needs and then consider Sonos. It took me time but it is where I wanted to be with sound of music.
I bought this speaker as the representative told me that it was Bluetooth (it isn't). That aside, I cannot get any Sonos product to work well on my WiFi (all my other devices -- including the Nest products -- work faultlessly). The speaker took two people with a combined seven post-secondary degrees over three hours to connect to the internet. Once we did get it to connect, it ceased to work on the following day (the speaker could not be found on the network and could not be reconnected without following the procedure that took use three hours the previous day). What I need from a speaker is much the same that I get from my apple Airpods: I activate them, they connect -- and they stay working until I put them away.... Every time. What I need from a speaker is much the same that I get from my apple Airpods: I activate them, they connect -- and they stay working until I put them away.... Every time. I understand that I was not going to get that functionality from the Sonos 5, given that it isn't actually a Bluetooth speaker (my bad for not double-checking the sales guy), but I kind of expect a $600 speaker to actually work without 3 hours of app based wifi drama each time I want to use it. I also own the Sonos Move and was reluctant to go with the 5 because I have had similar WiFi drama with the Move (I only keep it because I managed to connect it to the internet long enough to activate the Bluetooth -- on which it has remained ever since). I was told, however, that the two speakers would pair together (they won't) and that the Sonos 5 was much more simple to connect (it isn't). The Sonos app is, allegedly, quite functional and has many options; however, because of the difficulty I had connecting the speaker to the WiFi system, the app was functionally non-existent -- any options there are spend most of their time greyed out, as it can't find the speakers on the network. For the price, these speakers are terrible to connect and to use, and the app and support is pretty much useless (though I imagine they sound ok if you can ever get sound out of them). My Sonos 5 is going back today as it is is completely useless.
We debated between the 5 and the Move. We decided on the 5 and have it on a desk in the living room. So glad we got the 5. I had a little trouble with set up but I called Sonos customer service and the tech was very helpful and patient and walked me through. He even called me back when we got disconnected. I have not yet done the auto tune but plan on doing so. The speaker sounds so wonderful and is perfect for our needs. We live in a small condo and we can easily adjust the volume to hear music anywhere in the house. It looks nice too. I am really enjoying the Sonos station! I am getting exposed to music I never heard before and finding new favorites. Although I have other music sources connected, I find I am listening to the Sonos station the majority of the time. ... MoreWe debated between the 5 and the Move. I am getting exposed to music I never heard before and finding new favorites. Although I have other music sources connected, I find I am listening to the Sonos station the majority of the time. And I actually love that it's through wifi and not Blue Tooth! I hated with other Blue Tooth speakers when the cell phone would ring and interrupt the music! The 5 is a bit pricey but we got a discount by getting an open box one in excellent condition. I think it's worth the investment if you think of all the frivolous things one spends money on and they add up. Adding beautiful music to your life enriches it and greatly improves the ambience of a home. I'd recommend the 5 and would purchase again. If we move to a larger place, we could always add more Sonos speakers.
