A major update from the previous model, the latest Sonos Play:5 (Now simply referred to as 5) is a pivotal building block of any home audio system. It's a simplistic approach to groundbreaking sound. Inside the box is the speaker and it's power cable. Nothing too complicated, but this speaker is anything but common. It's hefty, and that's good in a speaker. It's also intelligent. Depending on how you choose to set this thing in the room, it knows that if it's resting horizontally, that it needs to carry both right and left channels, whereas, if you have a pair of these, you can orient them to stand vertically, and the proper channel is transmitted to the appropriate speaker. There's also a line-in port on the back for a record player or mp3 player if you choose. These are tuned speakers. Miticulously dialed-in and adjusted by people with a much more accomplished ear than my own when it comes to sound richness and attention to fidelity and detail. I couldn't find one bad thing to say about these speakers. They'll make a believer out of any audiophile. This is my brand of choice both in my office and within the home. Can't go wrong with Sonos.

Out Sonos Play5 is used every day and takes pride place in our kitchen. The sound quality is amazing. Works seamlessly with Apple Music and my other Sonos devices. The Sonos app is also very easy to use. This product is used by the whole family. The design is very modern and it is a good size. Well worth the price tag for the quality you get.

I recently got the Sonos Play:5, and I’m really impressed with it. The sound quality is exceptional—each track is delivered with powerful bass and crisp highs that make my music sound incredible. The design is sleek and modern, which fits perfectly with my home decor. Setting it up was a breeze, and it integrates smoothly with my other Sonos speakers for a great multi-room experience. The touch controls are intuitive and easy to use. Sure, it’s on the pricier side, but the performance and build quality make it worth every penny for me.

Best solo unit you can have to listen to a podcast or an audiobook. Deep sounds and it can get loud without any distortions. I love it! Too bad it won't integrate my Sonos system on the App2 but you can still play it from you phone with the retro App Sonos 1. Not a big of deal.. but why is Sonos doing this to us... it's very weird... especially when you know that all Play:3 ( same design and same version but only smaller Sonos speakers ) work on the modern App!!! Come on...Sonos!
Just a word of warning about all of Sonos products. They have a policy that they will only support products for 5 years with updates etc. I bought a Play 5 here from Best Buy thinking that I was purchasing a Hi-Fi Speaker that would last 10 to 20 years. (and actually thought it would last forever if I didnt blow out the sound on it). The quality of the sound was fabulous. And had plans to expand on the system. But I recently got sent an email saying titled, "your system requires attention". "In May the following products in your system will be classified as legacy and no longer receive software updates and new features. This will affect your listening experience. "It then went on to explain that I had options....I could get 30% off of a new device. It also said ... MoreJust a word of warning about all of Sonos products. It also said that I could choose to operate devices in legacy mode but that any newer devices would also not receive updates. You may not think that this will affect you but if you have any online features like streaming....it will definitely affect it.Did you also know that Sonos products can be put in "RECYCLING MODE" which then gives it 21 days and it will stop working. NO DATA can be sent to the device of any kind. It will no longer work. Completely dead. This is not reversible and is permanent.SORRY I will never buy another Sonos product again. But not wanting this to go into rant mode....I just wanted to warn you about their 5 year policy on equipment.
I got a Sonos Play One for my screened porch last year and enjoyed it so much, I brought it into the kitchen for the winter so I could stream my favorite jazz station when local radio wasn't cutting it. Being ready for a bigger sound outside this spring, I repeated my research and couldn't find anything that could top the Play 5 for value and performance, which was also humidity & heat resistant with an ethernet port.I'm delighted with my purchase. The device is beautifully constructed. The sound is crystal clear at both low and high volume. The only hiccup I experienced was finding that the Sonos app is not fully-supported on older versions of android/iOS. You currently need Android 7+ or iOS 11+ to complete the initial system setup. The only hiccup I experienced was finding that the Sonos app is not fully-supported on older versions of android/iOS. You currently need Android 7+ or iOS 11+ to complete the initial system setup. Sonos tech support was excellent at providing guidance for my situation. I simply carted my speakers to a friend's home and used her phone to complete the task. When I got back to my place, I was able to use both my old android phone and computer as the controllers. My Play 5 works flawlessly whether wired or wireless. If I have a regret, it's in not knowing that Gen 3 was only a month away. But truthfully, this one is great. Jump for the new one. It's the same price.
For those of you who may not be familiar with these SONOS speakers they are, in my opinion, the absolute best thing to ever hit the music and television audio world. I am delighted every time I turn them on. Whether it's to just "chill out" to music after a long day at the office or to be blown away during an amazing 4K movie played on my OLED TV, it really doesn't get any better than this. I was a die-hard BOSE fan prior to discovering these speakers but now I will never look back. I was so impressed with these as a surround sound system with my television in my home theater, I installed another one in my master bedroom-placing the subwoofer under my bed. Last night I was watching Dr. Strange in bed and literally thought I would be bounced off my bed from the bass that the sub produced. WOW.Other than the power cord, SONOS are wireless and the feature I like the best is having the ability to build your own "Zones". In other words you can put a speaker in every room of your house and group them together however you like. So you can listen to one song in say the kitchen, family room and living room, while your child listens to another in their bedroom and play yet another one out at the pool. Then you can change the rooms in your zones over and over again. It's wild.As far as quality goes, I have not heard a better speaker- wired or wireless- ever! I will say that the increased cost of the SONOS PLAY 5 over the SONOS PLAY 3 is definitely worth it. I was talked into trying the PLAY 5's by a BB employee and I thank him everyday for that. The difference in sound quality between the two is "HUGE".SONOS also gives you the option of using the speakers as either a single speaker with both left and right in one speaker, or buying two independent speakers and using them as a pair with separate left and right speakers. For the record, I am an individual that doesn't care about the cost of an object- I only buy the best. I can safely say that after listening to these SONOS PLAY 5's -I BOUGHT THE BEST!
The Sonos ecosystem is, by far, the best you can get in it's class for wifi-based music players. Having purchased nearly everything Sonos makes, this addiction doesn't seem to end.The Class D circuitry within every single driver stage independently, shines through with unparalleled performance matching or even destroying some of the most prestigious brands I've ever owned. Each and every time I have done this, I have been left speechless. Well??? What about the mediocre? It's non-existent with Sonos speakers. My home is routered by the Nighthawk X8 connected directly to my fiber connection. I am a long time user of Spotify Premium. Having said that, between that source, my KS9800 Samsung 4k TV and my Marantz TT-15S1 turntable, the quality resonating from the Play 5's, as well as all of the other Sonos products within every room, is just simply stunning. The highs are of the crispest highs and the lows do hit with a decisive precision you can feel.Regarding connectivity, it's as easy as 1,2,3... Any 8 year old could follow the directions, literally. As for the cost for ownership, how can you question the value of Sonos speakers after you've paid thousands for other speaker systems that can't compare to them whatsoever? My only wish would be that this sytem was available 25 years ago when I began my quest for "audio utopia."So, do yourself a favor, and give them a listen. Get them home and do it on a 30 day test drive. See for yourself...nothing compares to these quality-infused speakers, even at twice their price!!
Sonos makes the at home listening experience very easy and efficient while providing great sound quality. I happen to have their other products but recently splurged on this Play:5 to connect to my AudioTechnica turntableFirst the sound. This speaker has an array of 6 drivers that provide a great sound stage when listening to your music. I have heard that stereo pairing two of these Play:5s takes it to another level, but that will happen on day with more saving! I have a large open living area and this speaker completely fills out the entire space with fantastic sound that will always get compliments at partiesThe design of the speaker is modern, sleek, and very appealing in the home. not too large, sounds good but to be honest i did expect it to be a little better at lower volumes. upgrading from a wired technics system into multiroom system. i got play 5's rather than 3's because of the line in. i have a computer with really good playout software plugged into a mixer and then into the play 5. I wanted to put a tv into one in the lounge - this didn't work because of latency because i wanted both the speaker on the tv on AND the play 5's so there was noticeable echo when it was on. two of my 5's are hard wired to the router, one straight in and one using a powerline. i did this because the house is big and i wanted good mesh network coverage and we have so many other wifi gadgets around inc sky q that i thought it would be best for it to have ... Morenot too large, sounds good but to be honest i did expect it to be a little better at lower volumes. upgrading from a wired technics system into multiroom system. i got play 5's rather than 3's because of the line in. i have a computer with really good playout software plugged into a mixer and then into the play 5. I use amazon music unlimited only bugbear really is the cost - cost me just over 1700 for the four and imagine the system i could have bought for that - nothing is truly wireless because they have power cables don't they. but it does mean no wires room to room. Power cables aren't long enough if i wanted them on the walls. Attached to my computer is a disco mixer with decks, mini disc etc attached so it means i can play vinyl everywhere! result. One bugbear is the trueplay only works on ios devices - i had to wait for my sister coming round to use her phone. it's ridiculous that they dont just include a small mic in the box so they can calibrate with any phone. i mean at these prices a 1 mic on a lead would solve all those problems. PC app is great, no so happy with the android app - not the easiest way to choose music but maybe i havent used it enough yet. Hope this helps :)
