This 55" Bravia 8 TV replaced a 65" screen, and I was a bit concerned that I'd miss all those extra pixels. To be truthful, after the first couple of minutes, I didn't. This may be because of the quality of the image, it's exceptional. I've always thought that Sony has the best display; go into a department store and look at all the TVs on display, the Sony screens are the best.As expected of today’s TVs, this Bravia is very slim and looks very elegant. It's heavy, though, and needs two people to get it out of the box and mount it. Speaking of which, I was disappointed in that the box didn't include a wall mount, but feet instead. As can be seen on the attached photos, the wall connections are visible above the TV when in situ as it's standing on its feet, not ... MoreThis 55" Bravia 8 TV replaced a 65" screen, and I was a bit concerned that I'd miss all those extra pixels. As can be seen on the attached photos, the wall connections are visible above the TV when in situ as it's standing on its feet, not attached to the wall. As soon as I can work out which wall fittings are suitable, I'll mount it. There is no indication included in the documents that came with the TV as to what to buy. An upselling opportunity missed. After unboxing and installing the TV comes the initial setup. It goes through the usual procedure of what where, when, etc. Then comes the really annoying bit, registering your streaming services. Each one had to be done using (in my case) the same credentials. Admittedly, some of the services allow register by QR code, but those that don't require using the handset with an on-screen keyboard. Surely there must be a way for a giant like Sony to implement some sort of single-sign-on or Oauth facility for their customers to be given access to services that they are registered with?I was relieved/impressed that the TV immediately recognised my Sony Blu-ray Home Theatre System and that the handsets controlled both devices.Having settled down to use the TV, it was a real delight. As said above, the picture quality is unsurpassed, being able to transmit 4K ultra high-definition transmissions in high dynamic range. There is no difference in standards when sourcing from different inputs: a PVR, Blu-ray, over-the-air, or the Internet. Of course, there's a very small drop in quality when watching SD channels but is hardly noticeable as I'm sure the TV upscales the image. I switched off the Home Theatre to assess the TV speakers. They're certainly good enough and on a par with the overall quality of the TV, both in performance and overall build. Finally, I've noticed some reviews mentioning only two HTML ports. I found four (see attached photos) and they all work as intended.I must admit to being a Sony fan. I'm a 71-year-old man living in South Oxfordshire. Over the years I’ve had a number of Sony products, including cameras, TVs, speakers, headphones, so I think I can speak with some authority on its consistency in the delivery of high-quality goods and services.

Before you start make sure that you know all your email addresses and passwords. After that it really is just a case of taking your time and following the process. I explored as I went and set up everything inside an hour, but it could be done a lot quicker. So what has that createdHaving used normal LCD tv’s for years and thinking that the picture was great, I was in for a shock. BRAVIA 8 | XR Processor | OLED | 4K Ultra HD | High Dynamic Range (HDR) | Smart TV are amazing the pictures have a depth that I have only seen in a cinema. Yes you need to sit a minimum distance away or like and digital unit the images will pixellate. There a wide angle of view, more than enough for most homes. Even old films come to life, I watch a lot of streamed movies from the main providers, going back and watching films that I know, it is like watch a completely remastered film or program, really quite incredible. The sound is crisp with out so much bass that it shakes the TV and the top end doesn’t sound thin and tinny. I use my Sony headphones on Bluetooth and the sound is wonderful. Two remotesThis comes with two remote controls, one for normal use, the other for the preprogrammed apps such as Netflix and Prime but also Sony Pictures Core, Youtube, Disney+ and Crunchy Roll. This is one of my not likes, to rewind, pause or fast forward you need to use the main remote control. A small price to pay but one I hope Sony will address. My only other thing that I’m not keen on is the cover on the back of the unit, once you have installed cables they won’t refit..Have I missed a trick..Finally I know everything is online but there’s nothing like an instruction booklet:))MediaI use HDMI inputs to feed from my tablet or my laptop, essentially making a huge screen, it is disappointing that Sony have block Sky Go from iPadsIs it worthy the money?Absolutely, every pennyThe picture and sound are first class

I think the rest of the stuff visually is pretty comparable between LG and Samsung. This lets you pick crosshairs and only comes on when you start playing PS5, cxrosshairs are dot, cross and something else. You can also pick your color. I think I'm a better player cause of this feature otherwise im old and kind of suck at gaming but i enjoy it.The other feaure is using settings to quickly go into eco mode, I like this to basically dial down the tv for late night viewing. AKA I sleep with the tv on so i want it dimmer and also the sound to stay at the same level so it doesnt wake ... MorePicture looks great, I'm a Sony fan due to how good there motion is on low as I'm susceptible to the soap opera effect. When I compare this to the other top 2 here are my favorite feature. I went from a Panasonic Plasma 65 in the spare room. I enjoy the contrast much more on this. You shouldnt have buyers remorse. Also overall for what it is the sound is clear and enjoyable for casual gaming or watching tv. Again CASUAL, means it wont make your ears bleed. Nice job Sony.

The Sony Bravia 8 is an amazing woled tv. The tv has sonya one slate design making it, to my knowledge the thinest Sony Oled ever released. This tv is actually and oled evo tv with better brightness. It is mosy likley the same panel found in the Lg C4 oled. That tv is abiut 1040 to 1,100 depending on who reviewed it. It this years sony is just has bright. The build quality is premium and even rhe bezles have an Embroidered like pattern all across them giving an even more premium fuel. The last thing I’d like to touch on is the overhauled Menu system. Last year’s a95L tv actually is running the 2024 system software. It’s a bit easier to find things this year. Much like the LG C4, The extra brightness alone and superior build quality might be enough of a reason to upgrade from last years a80L or the prior years a80K , or A80J. I definitely recommend this TV. The TV is $200 off right now which is a decent discount. It will likely drop lower during Black Friday so if you can wait you’ll definitely get a better deal.

I bought the Bravia 8 OLED to replace my 7yr old Sony A1E. The Bravia 8 has improved the viewing experience in so many ways compared to my A1E but its not cheap, even with the discount I got. I also bought the Theatre Bar 8 and sub as a package to improve the experience. I think despite Acoustic Surface Audio+ you still need a soundbar.Positives:The picture is brighter and sharper with so many more adjustments compared to the A1E, meaning I can fine tune the picture to my liking. While I did look at the LG G4, I wanted to stay with the Google OS and have the sound clarity with the Voice Zoom 3 as my partner has hearing issues (you really can hear the difference). The Vivid mode is bright as you'd expect, but surprisingly the colours are not over saturated. So its possible to watch in this mode by simply turning down the brightness and I can leave the colour settings as they are. Good job Sony. The new small remote is excellent. I love how it self-illuminates when you pick it up and being rechargeable I don't need to buy AAA batteries anymore. Not sure why it needed to be splattered with green dots, but I can live with that.Disappointments:Being a WOLED panel I still have to turn up the brightness to Max on the Standard setting otherwise some scenes look dull/grey instead of bright white. The Cinema and Professional modes are too dark to use. So I never both with those. The Prime calibrated mode is just awful. It displays with a dark yellow/brown hue and I haven't found a way to turn it off. I'm not a fan of Prime anyway so no loss there. One thing that really does bug me is the poor UI design to get into the settings. There are 3 different ways to change settings - Menu, Settings with a Spanner icon, and Settings with a Cog wheel icon. Its crazy. Each button has a different display that show some same/some different options. Its too confusing trying to find which button and menu to select to find a particular option. Sony PLEASE JUST HAVE ONE SETTINGS BUTTON and leave it at that!!Apart from the remote/UI design the TV performance is great. I could have spent another $1000 to get the A95L but I'm not sure if it was worth the extra $.
Originally purchased A80L - 65". I found it to be a bit too dark and immediately new this was not a keeper. Next day went to Best Buy in Mt. I was dreading going to the store for the return/upgrade but, the first two young men a ran into teamed up and one proceeded to process return while the other individual went and got the tv. I was in/out of store in less than 5 min. Turns out the first Bravia 8 was DOA just a black screen would not turn on. I was annoyed to put it nicely but returned to store several hours later to now exchange this defective unit and a completely different staff again provided me with exemplary service, and I suddenly did not feel to frustrated. Again, exchange was made promptly, and I was in/out of the store in less than 5 min. Whomever manages this store is doing a fine job. And the employees deserve a company sponsored picnic or tickets to a game for performing outstanding customer service. Almost forgot to mention the team at Best Buy also removed tv from my vehicle and loaded exchange/replacement on all three visits
What would you expect from a Sony Bravia 8 TV? Great picture? Great sound? Great connectivity? This model has all that and more. Beautifully styled, thin, light weight. It’s a great choice for any place in your home. I mounted mine on a wall in our bedroom, replacing an older 55” set, and we couldn’t be happier.I have a JBL Bar 5 soundbar already in place in there, but I did listen to the TV speaker output. It is plenty good enough to stand on its own. If the soundbar ever gives up the ghost, I won’t need to replace it.The attached pictures are from DirecTV, Roku and a couple of Blu-ray movies played on a Sony 4K blu-ray player. Consistent quality across all inputs is evident.I primarily use Roku for streaming apps, but this set seems to have plenty of ... MoreWhat would you expect from a Sony Bravia 8 TV? Great picture? Consistent quality across all inputs is evident.I primarily use Roku for streaming apps, but this set seems to have plenty of capacity for onboard app storage, should that be your preference. The one slight disappointment is the remote. It lacks a backlight and a separate button to directly select an input source. As is, you must go into settings first to select a source. Not a big deal, but it could be more user-friendly.Still, this model is a great option if you are looking for a superior 65” set at a less-than-top-tier price.
I purchased a Sony 65" Bravia 8 OLED UHD Smart Google TV (2024) in July 2024 after reading extensive reviews of other manufacturers reviews and speaking with Best Buy customer service in store. I purchased this TV soon after it first became available. I owned Samsung and Sony TVs prior to this purchase. I still own a Samsung and Sony TV. Both have provided reliable service for years. I settled with this TV after seeing it on display and comparing with other TVs displayed at Best Buy. I compared Sony with similar Samsung and LG TVs. The reviews and comparisons I read provided customer issues with the reliability of current similar Samsung TVs. Reliability was also brought up by the Best Buy representatives during three visits to the store. Reliability was also brought up by the Best Buy representatives during three visits to the store. I do use the sound from the TV as the AVR to provide sound.Pros: 1. Clarity in viewing with vivid colors. 2. Great viewing at night with no other lights on. 3. Black and dark colors are impressive. 4. Ease of use of remote and programming.Cons: 1. Not good in a highly lighted space due to screen reflection of room lighting.2. Pricy
First off this a mainstream user review (not a technical review) by a 60+ male with mild hearing difficulties. My television arrived extremely well packaged but easily removed from the packaging by one person.I must confess I always try to set up new devices with little or no reference to set up/user guides. After so many years of smart televisions I tend to think it should be straight forward.I was not wall mounting at this stage so firstly I looked to attach the table top feet. I was really pleased to find there were two height options which allowed me to set for sound bar inclusion. You immediately notice how slim the TV is and you would almost believe there is no border to the panel. This was easily the best looking device I have ever owned.Next ... MoreFirst off this a mainstream user review (not a technical review) by a 60+ male with mild hearing difficulties. My television arrived extremely well packaged but easily removed from the packaging by one person.I must confess I always try to set up new devices with little or no reference to set up/user guides. I was really pleased to find there were two height options which allowed me to set for sound bar inclusion. You immediately notice how slim the TV is and you would almost believe there is no border to the panel. This was easily the best looking device I have ever owned.Next confession I no longer connect a digital free to air aerial to my TVs relying solely on the smart TV options. There are a number of ways to set up the broadband Wi-Fi and I chose to use the aid of my Sony smartphone which made it a little quicker. At this stage I noticed two remote controls with the packaging but more on this later.Setting up the various streaming services is still a little tedious but I recognise this as a generic (not Sony specific) problem.Even at this stage you notice a very bright and vibrant picture. So far so good and not a user manual in sight.First service I tried was new to me and it was the Sony Pictures Core app which gives a mix of free and available to purchase content. In order to let you test it properly Sony give you 10 “credits” which in essence allows you to buy and keep 10 movies in your library. These include a number of IMAX enhanced films and demos to let you fine tune your sound and picture settings. With hearing difficulties I am always looking to add clarity/volume to speech audio so this is where I went first. The little spanner on the remote brings really easy and quick access to all the key settings which come at the bottom of the screen in a clear scrollable format. Immediately saw a “Voice Zoom” option which enhances speech dialogue to a range of levels. This brings a really noticeable improvement and is perfect for someone like me.Turning to the picture side of things there is a huge number of tuning options open to you. I put on a favoured film which I usually use to test new equipment and for the first time ever I saw a completely new level of image quality. I couldn’t resist setting my old TV alongside to compare. There was no comparison. The Bravia has a deep rich picture with true black imaging. Even my wife (normal ambivalent to tech) commented on the 3d nature of the picture. One “downside” was that the picture seemed a little dark. One quick return to the settings where in the “Picture Mode” you scan scroll through a list of options. Moving to each option immediately changed the look of the image which was brilliant for finding the best one for you. In my case “vivid” was perfect. The Bravia 8 series are not cheap televisions let’s be clear about that but can you see/hear what you are paying for absolutely. The aesthetics of the TV alone mean it will look good in any setting. But it is the picture and sound which make it all worthwhile. This is a brilliant television which can be easy to use if you want or if you like your tech it offers a broad range of customisation. It is by far the best TV I have ever owned.
