The unit is wonderful and the sound quality is amazing for a built in amp in a receiver.If you install it properly in your dash and take your time with your wiring harness, making sure each and every connection is secure (the best way is to solder and shrink tube, do not just twist the wires and slap black tape on it) and connected to the right thing, and properly grounded, it won't give you any trouble. Thought it would be cooler for the price. 2 major issues I have with it- the face piece has screws on the back side that do not allow a flush mount. This is an issue if you are going for any flush mount application. Sloppy oversight. Other issue is that the surround is not finished, and has gaps. The perimeter of the unit should be neat and trim, and just ready for a flush mount. It's a super boring stereo that you personalize the background on, which is OK in my non-flashy boat application, but may not suit your needs. Sounds absolutely great though, and very customizable equalizer is a good feature. 2.5 stars but round down to 2 for the sloppy finish in the surround bezel.
Great product for the price. This replaces a cheap Dual brand CarPlay radio. You get what you pay for with this Sony. The power output is better than most other units 2x the price. It’s simple, connects to BT quickly and reliably, and the camera works well. I agree with others that the display is washed out in direct sun but it’s still readable. Also, the sound level when connected to CarPlay is lower than BT. If you want or need internal amp power this and other Sony’s have everything else beat. I should have bought this from the start instead of the cheap Dual that has no power and internally shorted the backup camera circuit so the camera was always on and the reverse lamp was on. Don’t waste your money on cheap car stereos get this Sony.
If you’re looking for a head unit that provides excellent sound quality to your speakers, it’s definitely the one.I installed this in my car fairly simply, no issues. wiring worked first try.Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are excellent, and the only issue you would have with this is if your wires aren’t connected properly, it does cause issues, make sure you get installed by a professional or just know what you’re doing like in my case
After a year of owning it i finally got it installed and blew me away when the music started playing! Stock stereo doesnt come close to this one. Sound quality for sure got better. Guess the built in amp does have good power. I do have aftermarket door speakers so they do help a bit. Apple car play works well too. Graphics are not what i expected but overall its a great stereo for the price.

I had to purchase as mounting kit from Amazon, a trim kit to fill in the space in the dark as well as a wiring harness to match up with the factory Subaru harness. Soldered all the connections and put shrink wrap tubes on the soldered joints. On the Sony harness provided, there was a blue wire with white stripe that stated if you don’t have a power antenna to tape it off, likewise the harness I purchased to match up to the Subaru harness had a blue wire. Turns out I had poor radio reception. After calling Sony for tech help, they could not help other than say that I wired it incorrectly - so much for the tech help. Has zero functionality literally barebones when it comes to customization and features. Apple CarPlay is the only thing that's good on this headunit. Buttons are plastic and cheap and mine all cracked crumbled broke from the heat from the sun. Waste of money and sad d disappointment. Unless your able to get this free. It's absolutely garbage and not worth the money. I've owned it for 8 months and I've be trying to replace it since I've gotten it
First of all I’m not too tech savvy, so when I was looking for a small stereo for my 2006 Gmc Envoy SLE, first brand that came to mind was Sony. I’m pretty sure there’s much better units with more features. But for $250 I couldn’t be happier! It has all the basic features any modern infotainment could have. The sound quality of the stock Bose speakers was already pretty good with the original stereo unit. However, once the unit was installed it was the cherry on top. Apple CarPlay, amazing sound quality, and the back up camera that I installed for it looks really good on the screen! I was able to physically purchase this and to my luck it was the only one left. I couldn’t be happier with the Sony Ax150, I highly recommend it to anyone trying to update an old vehicle!
