After 4 years of gaining experience on a canon t6i, I decided to get a full frame camera. I was wanting the Canon R6 to make the use of my existing EF 50mm 1.8 and sigma EF mount 150-600 easy on the new mirrorless format, but with only 20 MP i found it to be kind of underwhelming. With a $3500 budget for a body and good 24-105, I found that the Sony A7III outdid my other main option, the Canon EOS R in many aspects. Even only being 24MP, it produces significantly better image quality than my t6i on similar settings/conditions. The Sigma MC-11 mount converter works flawlessly with my canon lenses, still allowing me to use autofocus excellently on the sony body. Coming from Canon and having heard many rumors, I was expecting Sony’s color science to be bothersome for me but I’ve actually found that I like it more than Canon’s. In brighter conditions, the colors are retained better than a Canon, where I would often have to edit the colors in post because they were washed out. At night, it’s a little more “bluish” than i’d like, but its an easy fix. The battery seems to last longer than I expected, allowing me to shoot over 200 stills and 8 videos to only use less than half the battery. The 24-105 f/4 G OSS produces sharp images and has great build quality. Overall, I’m very happy I went with Sony. Great camera and platform. My only complaint is the confusing menu but with the ability to make your own custom menu with as many or few pages and options as you want, it nearly negates the struggles of the factory menu.

Coming from an android phone user, I have been comfortable enough to take pictures with the ease of use of camera phones when I go hiking and traveling throughout my military career. After using actual photo editing software and realizing the difference in megapixels that I was lacking with my camera phone to an actual high end camera, I realized I needed something more robust and professional to what I wanted to do. My passion is landscape photography and this camera doesn't disappoint. The level of detail that you get after cropping the photo is breathtaking. I love the fact that I can also crop a photo to fit the narrative and style of composition that I want after taking a second look at the photo on a big screen monitor. I have tried the Canon 80D previously and still wasn't impressed by the quality of the photo that I was looking for. 42 megapixel is plenty of what I wanted and being able to zoom into photos and not lose sharpness is great especially with landscape photography. One thing that I wish was different is the grip system and would have loved to get the Sony a7IV for that but the price and package that B&H provided for this camera when I bought it is something I could not pass up. I got a 42 megapixel camera $400 cheaper than a 33 megapixel camera. To also include a 16-35mm f/2.8 lens, messenger bag, extra battery and SD card for $4,700 is something you won't be able to find anywhere else unless you look for used equipment. Even then, used/new on B&H is only a $200-$300 difference. This camera kit has definitely made me happy and would recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for more sharpness in their pictures and the satisfaction to know that you have bought into a great ecosystem for your photographic needs.

After doing a lot of research and going through a lot of anxiety trying to figure out which camera should I buy, I finally decided to pull the trigger and go all in with this camera system. The reason I chose the A7RIIIA is due to the 42.4 megapixel sensor, which allows me to get the best quality photo without needing to kill my hard drives. The low light capability to shoot at night and astrophotography is something that I wanted for what I wanted to shoot. The last reason, are all the lenses that are now available for the Sony system. I wanted to get into a system that had a good ecosystem of cameras and lenses if I wanted to switch back and forth. I wanted to get into a system that had a good ecosystem of cameras and lenses if I wanted to switch back and forth. I understand Nikon, Canon, and Fujifilm are more popular, but after looking at their lenses I have found that they are a lot more expensive that the Sony lenses. On top of that B&H Photo combined this camera with a bag, a 16-35mm f/2.8 lens (wonderful lens), extra battery, bag and memory card, for the cost of just the camera and lens and at the time of buying this kit was $600 dollars off the camera. I was torn between waiting on the A7IV or get a A7R series for $300 less than the A7IV. My mind was made up and got this camera and have never been more satisfied. The pics are sharp, the controls are tactile, and once you understand the camera, the controls become very intuitive.I know that I will not be trading in this camera body for a good while since the images comes out incredibly sharp and it just works the way you want it to. Unless you are shooting sports or wildlife, which I only do street photography/landscape/travel photography, then I would suggest to go for the A1. But for my needs and my humble opinion, the Sony A7RIIIA will be good for the beginner all the way up to pros. I have done a lot of research and a lot of pro videographers and photographers still use this camera for its capabilities even though it is a 5 year old system. But I think Sony has the mindset, If it isn't broken, then don't fix it, just update it. This is what this camera has become.
I should start this review by saying that I purchased this camera on the day the A7rV was announced. I have been waiting to upgrade my aging A7ii for a while, and watching the new models with disappointment after disappointment. Either due to reported problems or more and more added useless (to me) features. After much consideration, I have decided that this camera provides the best bang for the money if you are a stills photographer with no need to autofocus on a passing bee when trying to photograph an oncoming bullet train; or otherwise need the camera be smarter than you.The pros:- great price point in light of the pricing structure of the newer models- 42 Mpix is a sweet spot- no flippy screen- no missing features for basic camera operations- good ... MoreI should start this review by saying that I purchased this camera on the day the A7rV was announced. Made the jump from Nikon to Sony. Had looked into a mirror less 5 Nikon and the Sony 7 ii. As I’m not a professional I was looking for convenience and simplicity with a touch of a few buttons. I like shooting thunderstorms and astronomy. Had seen some photos taken with both in astronomy side and liked what I saw. When u put my hands on both cameras the Sony seemed an easier to handle and functionally simpler. I ended up with the Sony a7r iii. So far I’m am very pleased with my choice. Haven’t had good sky yet for the telescope setup but am ready when I can. The photos that I have take just getting use to the camera are great. Very impressed so far. Glad I made the jump.
This was a considerable upgrade from my Sony a6000. For my first full frame, I couldn't be happier. The original Sony a7R3 received a few firmware updates that got it to close to this level. The Sony a7R3a is basically the same camera with the top firmware already installed and a type C usb port, which is super handy. This camera can be operated simply. But it excels in letting you operate it with precision. This is a professional-grade full frame camera, not to be confused with the Sony a7III. Want to change the focus mode quicker than going through the menu? Just program that feature to a custom button. Want to have your focus zoom option ready? You can change one of the two custom buttons near the shutter button so you can quickly fine tune a manual focus lens.I use this camera with antique manual focus lenses as well as some newer gear. My favorite so far is the Yongnuo YN85, a superior prime lens that won't break the bank. It works flawlessly on this camera.
The Sony A7R3A is a tried and true high res 42Mp mirrorless camera. Still a viable choice especially for the current price. Significant features and specs upgrade from an A7II/III. I love the improved Z battery and ergonomics over the previous generation. The kit arrived well packed and it perfection condition. Looking forward to putting it to work.
I have been using SLRs for the past 10 years, and finally decided to switch to mirrorless. I was a little hesitant giving up my SLR and switching systems, but have been very impressed with the Sony mirrorless cameras so far. The camera is very fast, has tons of features and customization, great autofocus, and excellent image quality. Also, having bought a few lenses now, I am very impressed with the quality of Sony lenses and construction. I honestly can't say I miss much from SLRs, having used it now for a few weeks.I only noted a few small issues with the camera. First, the camera body is quite small. I like that it's smaller than my full frame SLRs, but it does make it a little cumbersome when using a bigger lens, like the 24-105 I bought. I like that it's smaller than my full frame SLRs, but it does make it a little cumbersome when using a bigger lens, like the 24-105 I bought. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but I think if you have very big hands, it could be quite difficult to use. Also, the menu system is quite convoluted, but honestly, once you spend the time setting up the camera, I don't think you need to go back into the menus very often. Because you can customize practically every physical button to any feature, you can assign things that would require you to dive into the menu often, which keeps you out of menus and keeps you shooting. Obviously, I hope Sony continues to improve their menus, but I do feel that people sometimes slightly exaggerate how bad the menus are. It's not like Canon and Nikon don't have some confusing menu choices sometimes too, it's just that people have gotten used to them.
I'm brand new to Sony, i do photography not video production, and i've been a Nikon user and fan for the most part of my 12 years in this field. I still love my Nikons. I own the Legendary D850 (my favorite body ever) I also own the Z7II and Z6, and i used some Canons and Fujis for a while until i recently sold the X-T4 i had. I loved the body and controls of the Fuji, but disliked the low light performance and lower resolution of the DX sensor compared to the 40+MPs on the Nikons and now Sony i own.I'm getting used to Sony now, and by no means i intend to replace or switch to Sony exclusively, i will continue to use and love my Nikons, but this Sony does a good job to. It has excellent ISO performance and has nice features that are impressive for a 3+ year old body with a recent slight improvement on the LCD and USB C port. It is true that Sony could improve a few things on these camenras Menu systems, and it would also be great if the would replace the focus position indicator from almost invisible gray, to green, red or white. The battery life is very good also. I'm happy with my new Sony camera, i have a learning curve to overcome now, but it takes time and patience, at least i'm not starting from scratch. I bought this camera now that is on sale with $500 off, but in all honesty i wouldn't pay more for this body if it wasn't on sale. Perhaps Sony could make this pricing a permanent thing. Overall, i recomend this Sony camera as a backup. The autofocus is very good, but it's not way much better than the Nikon's Z II cameras. Nikon has better ergonomics and a lot easier way to tweak and set up the camera to make it a lot faster to change some settings.Like i said, this Sony is more like a Backup for me. But i'm happy with it overall.
