I bought the Bravia 8 OLED to replace my 7yr old Sony A1E. The Bravia 8 has improved the viewing experience in so many ways compared to my A1E but its not cheap, even with the discount I got. I also bought the Theatre Bar 8 and sub as a package to improve the experience. I think despite Acoustic Surface Audio+ you still need a soundbar.Positives:The picture is brighter and sharper with so many more adjustments compared to the A1E, meaning I can fine tune the picture to my liking. While I did look at the LG G4, I wanted to stay with the Google OS and have the sound clarity with the Voice Zoom 3 as my partner has hearing issues (you really can hear the difference). The Vivid mode is bright as you'd expect, but surprisingly the colours are not over saturated. So its possible to watch in this mode by simply turning down the brightness and I can leave the colour settings as they are. Good job Sony. The new small remote is excellent. I love how it self-illuminates when you pick it up and being rechargeable I don't need to buy AAA batteries anymore. Not sure why it needed to be splattered with green dots, but I can live with that.Disappointments:Being a WOLED panel I still have to turn up the brightness to Max on the Standard setting otherwise some scenes look dull/grey instead of bright white. The Cinema and Professional modes are too dark to use. So I never both with those. The Prime calibrated mode is just awful. It displays with a dark yellow/brown hue and I haven't found a way to turn it off. I'm not a fan of Prime anyway so no loss there. One thing that really does bug me is the poor UI design to get into the settings. There are 3 different ways to change settings - Menu, Settings with a Spanner icon, and Settings with a Cog wheel icon. Its crazy. Each button has a different display that show some same/some different options. Its too confusing trying to find which button and menu to select to find a particular option. Sony PLEASE JUST HAVE ONE SETTINGS BUTTON and leave it at that!!Apart from the remote/UI design the TV performance is great. I could have spent another $1000 to get the A95L but I'm not sure if it was worth the extra $.

That said, one of my favourite activities is watching TV during the evening with my partner and dogs on the couch. On the first night of viewing, my partner exclaimed, "Oh my god, should I be scared of how many wrinkles on people's foreheads?".I've had the TV for some months, and I’m so glad I made this purchase. The screen is stunning, and the sound is equally impressive. The operating system is quick and responsive. Many of the negatives I had read about previous Bravia models seem to have been resolved in this model. I've watched a few movies on it, and all I can say is "WOW!"

As soon as I can work out which wall fittings are suitable, I'll mount it. There is no indication included in the documents that came with the TV as to what to buy. An upselling opportunity missed. After unboxing and installing the TV comes the initial setup. It goes through the usual procedure of what where, when, etc. Then comes the really annoying bit, registering your streaming services. Each one had to be done using (in my case) the same credentials. Admittedly, some of the services allow register by QR code, but those that don't require using the handset with an on-screen keyboard. Surely there must be a way for a giant like Sony to implement some sort of single-sign-on or Oauth facility for their customers to be given access to services that they are registered with?I was relieved/impressed that the TV immediately recognised my Sony Blu-ray Home Theatre System and that the handsets controlled both devices.Having settled down to use the TV, it was a real delight. As said above, the picture quality is unsurpassed, being able to transmit 4K ultra high-definition transmissions in high dynamic range. There is no difference in standards when sourcing from different inputs: a PVR, Blu-ray, over-the-air, or the Internet. Of course, there's a very small drop in quality when watching SD channels but is hardly noticeable as I'm sure the TV upscales the image. I switched off the Home Theatre to assess the TV speakers. They're certainly good enough and on a par with the overall quality of the TV, both in performance and overall build. Finally, I've noticed some reviews mentioning only two HTML ports. I found four (see attached photos) and they all work as intended.I must admit to being a Sony fan. I'm a 71-year-old man living in South Oxfordshire. Over the years I’ve had a number of Sony products, including cameras, TVs, speakers, headphones, so I think I can speak with some authority on its consistency in the delivery of high-quality goods and services.

The Sony Bravia 8 is an amazing woled tv. The tv has sonya one slate design making it, to my knowledge the thinest Sony Oled ever released. This tv is actually and oled evo tv with better brightness. The last thing I’d like to touch on is the overhauled Menu system. Last year’s a95L tv actually is running the 2024 system software. It’s a bit easier to find things this year. Much like the LG C4, The extra brightness alone and superior build quality might be enough of a reason to upgrade from last years a80L or the prior years a80K , or A80J. I definitely recommend this TV. The TV is $200 off right now which is a decent discount. It will likely drop lower during Black Friday so if you can wait you’ll definitely get a better deal.
Originally purchased A80L - 65". I found it to be a bit too dark and immediately new this was not a keeper. Next day went to Best Buy in Mt. Laurel, NJ. to return/purchase next model up which is the Bravia 8. Absolutely love the 8! I was in/out of store in less than 5 min. Turns out the first Bravia 8 was DOA just a black screen would not turn on. I was annoyed to put it nicely but returned to store several hours later to now exchange this defective unit and a completely different staff again provided me with exemplary service, and I suddenly did not feel to frustrated. Again, exchange was made promptly, and I was in/out of the store in less than 5 min. Whomever manages this store is doing a fine job. And the employees deserve a company sponsored picnic or tickets to a game for performing outstanding customer service. Almost forgot to mention the team at Best Buy also removed tv from my vehicle and loaded exchange/replacement on all three visits
I was debating this vs the A95L, but I'm very happy I went with this one. We saved over $2000, and the picture quality is phenomenal. My only gripe is that I expected better Google Assistant integration from Sony. The integration works fine with no soundbar. However, for soundbars I have tried both the Sony Bravia Theater Bar 8 and the Sonos Arc. When either soundbar is plugged in via the HDMI arc port, I cannot control the sound volume via Google Asssitant commands (i.e. "set the TV volume to 10%") because the volume only goes up or down by 1 tick at a time. I contacted Sony and was escalated to tier 3 support before being informed that there is no workaround for this issue.I ended up sticking with the Sonos Arc over the Sony soundbar, however, since at least ... MoreI was debating this vs the A95L, but I'm very happy I went with this one. I contacted Sony and was escalated to tier 3 support before being informed that there is no workaround for this issue.I ended up sticking with the Sonos Arc over the Sony soundbar, however, since at least Sonos has a dedicated Google Home integration, which at least allows me to say "Set the *soundbar* volume (not TV volume) to 10%". That voice command was not working at all with the Sony system, so I was forced to use the remote control. So, if you need Google Home integration for this TV I would recommend going with a Sonos soundbar instead of Sony. I hope this saves somebody the many hours we spent investigating the issue. Otherwise we are very happy with our purchase!
I purchased a 55" Bravia 8 several weeks ago from my local Best Buy and it has an excellent display when using ultra definition content, is is much worse than my older Sony X80 when viewing 480p content. Things get blurry when using this TV. I also can't find in the menu where to adjust the aspect ratio when viewing 480p content. A bigger issue is the sound when using the eARC to a home theater receiver. While changing the channel or using an APP, the sound will cutoff completely. I have to use the menu for sound output to turn off ARC, then turn it back on to get the sound to return. I have turned off "automatic lip sink" which has made it more stable, but it still happens. I have changed the HDMI cable and replaced my home theater receiver, but alas, this TV continues to be problematic. I did contact Sony and opened a case, but the representative didn't seem to be familiar with my new TV and wasn't helpful after about 40 minutes of help. I really wish that I had purchased another brand. I have completed all the firmware updates/upgrades but tonight I turned it on and no sound again until I turned off the ARC and turned it on again. This is very disappointing for a high priced set. This is my 5th Sony and probably my last.
I did a lot of research on the OLEDs in my price range and I found this TV suited me best. I read the reviews on multiple websites and was between the LG C4, Samsung S90d and this Sony Bravia 8. I ultimately choose the Sony Bravia 8 after seeing it at Bestbuy and comparing it to the Samsung and LG. You can’t go wrong with any of these TVs but I just preferred the Sony Picture and processing over the comp but would have love all three sets. You’re forking out the money not any reviewing site so see them for yourself and get which one that works for you. Just reading reviews, I was going for the Samsung but no Dolby Vision gave me pause and went to BestBey to see if I needed it. That’s when I truly feel in love with this Sony. Samsung did have amazing color and brightness, LG great overall with better upscaling and motion than Samsung , but Sony had the features I wanted and went in that direction, to me Sony had the best motion processing and better picture though not as bright as the Samsung.
First off this a mainstream user review (not a technical review) by a 60+ male with mild hearing difficulties. My television arrived extremely well packaged but easily removed from the packaging by one person.I must confess I always try to set up new devices with little or no reference to set up/user guides. After so many years of smart televisions I tend to think it should be straight forward.I was not wall mounting at this stage so firstly I looked to attach the table top feet. I was really pleased to find there were two height options which allowed me to set for sound bar inclusion. You immediately notice how slim the TV is and you would almost believe there is no border to the panel. This was easily the best looking device I have ever owned.Next ... MoreFirst off this a mainstream user review (not a technical review) by a 60+ male with mild hearing difficulties. My television arrived extremely well packaged but easily removed from the packaging by one person.I must confess I always try to set up new devices with little or no reference to set up/user guides. I was really pleased to find there were two height options which allowed me to set for sound bar inclusion. You immediately notice how slim the TV is and you would almost believe there is no border to the panel. This was easily the best looking device I have ever owned.Next confession I no longer connect a digital free to air aerial to my TVs relying solely on the smart TV options. There are a number of ways to set up the broadband Wi-Fi and I chose to use the aid of my Sony smartphone which made it a little quicker. At this stage I noticed two remote controls with the packaging but more on this later.Setting up the various streaming services is still a little tedious but I recognise this as a generic (not Sony specific) problem.Even at this stage you notice a very bright and vibrant picture. So far so good and not a user manual in sight.First service I tried was new to me and it was the Sony Pictures Core app which gives a mix of free and available to purchase content. In order to let you test it properly Sony give you 10 “credits” which in essence allows you to buy and keep 10 movies in your library. These include a number of IMAX enhanced films and demos to let you fine tune your sound and picture settings. With hearing difficulties I am always looking to add clarity/volume to speech audio so this is where I went first. The little spanner on the remote brings really easy and quick access to all the key settings which come at the bottom of the screen in a clear scrollable format. Immediately saw a “Voice Zoom” option which enhances speech dialogue to a range of levels. This brings a really noticeable improvement and is perfect for someone like me.Turning to the picture side of things there is a huge number of tuning options open to you. I put on a favoured film which I usually use to test new equipment and for the first time ever I saw a completely new level of image quality. I couldn’t resist setting my old TV alongside to compare. There was no comparison. The Bravia has a deep rich picture with true black imaging. Even my wife (normal ambivalent to tech) commented on the 3d nature of the picture. One “downside” was that the picture seemed a little dark. One quick return to the settings where in the “Picture Mode” you scan scroll through a list of options. Moving to each option immediately changed the look of the image which was brilliant for finding the best one for you. In my case “vivid” was perfect. The Bravia 8 series are not cheap televisions let’s be clear about that but can you see/hear what you are paying for absolutely. The aesthetics of the TV alone mean it will look good in any setting. But it is the picture and sound which make it all worthwhile. This is a brilliant television which can be easy to use if you want or if you like your tech it offers a broad range of customisation. It is by far the best TV I have ever owned.
TV setup was straightforward and easy with two people. Super convenient that the stand legs can be attached at two different widths and heights on the TV.Picture quality is wonderful. Built-in picture modes are pretty well optimized and there are plenty of tools for individualizing (as well as some audio sliders).PS5 and Xbox Series X games are beautiful and lag-free. There's a Dolby Game mode, plus the 'regular' game picture mode.Speaking of audio, the spatial speakers work well and provide a nice little 3D effect, for media that supports it of course (from my experience, mostly newer video games and Blu-rays).One of my favorite features is an auto-slideshow option that helps prevent burn-in (and are beautiful, like the pics that would be on a store ... MoreTV setup was straightforward and easy with two people. TV has post-processing and sharpness options to help accommodate for this. From 20+ feet away, the programs look perfect, but from my normal viewing distance (about 12 feet), you'll see some pixelation and cloudiness, though this shouldn't be unexpected. All around a wonderful, hopefully decades-plus long, investment.
