Capture detail in low-light conditions with Sony's Exmor R sensor and f/1.8 Carl Zeiss glass. The Cyber-shot RX100 II boasts an ultra-sensitive ISO 12800, Wi-Fi sharing and an expandable shoe system. Better yet, a lightning-quick AF can focus in as little as 0.13 seconds. Suddenly, this award-winning camera just got a whole lot better. The worldâs first 1.0â CMOS sensor featuring an Exmor R image sensor technology. With this back-illuminated technology, the sensor doubles light sensitivity and combines with Sonyâs Column A/D Conversion to reduce noise by half â a great help when photographing in dimly lit environments. Markedly reduced noise is evident even when high-sensitivity settings are used for capturing night landscapes or indoor scenes The large-diameter F1.8 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens delivers refined background defocusing - bokeh. A premium multi-layered T coating also dramatically reduces ghost and flare caused by light reflection. To improve focusing speed and sensitivity, the Exmor R CMOS sensor uses its rapid throughput to deliver high-quality image signals to the cameraâs BIONZ processor, which provides intelligent response data to a new high speed actuator motor in the lens. The result is fast, DSLR-like focusing speeds even in low light.

I find my Sony RX100 II gets a lot of outings where my DSLR would be too cumbersome and attract too much attention. So it gets used a fair bit. Lens quality is excellent and the images from the 12 x 8 mm sensor are great. I find I do not miss not having an optical finder and use the handy flip up rear screen without problems. Controls are reasonably well set out. Zoom range is 29-100 which is reasonable for this size of camera, Video quality seems good to me too though I am not more a stills photographer. I find the menus a bit of a puzzle sometimes but that seems to be pretty standard for most cameras. I find the zoom control hard to get anything but quite big changes. Overall the Sony RX100 II is a great little camera which fits neatly into most pockets.

The DSC-RX100Mk2 is part of a unique camera range (itâs siblings being the Mk1, and the Mk3) that seems to interest many I have shown it to, both casual users and professionals alike. It has the innards of a âbig cameraâ with itâs 1â sensor, full manual control with RAW mode, and quality Carl Zeiss optics, but has an exterior similar to many compacts and easily fits in an average sized pocket.I also make use of the âbig cameraâ style âMulti-Interface Shoeâ with an external microphone for video recording, which this camera excels at. It includes many options and bit-rates including some that exceed Blu-ray standards. The screen actually does remarkably well, even on a bright sunny day, and you can swivel it up or down to a limited degree, but if you truly love to use a viewfinder, maybe you should put the DSC-RX100Mk3 on your list â the Mk3 forgoes the âMulti-Interface Shoeâ for a pop-up viewfinder. The RX100Mk2 is priced cheaper than a similarly specced DSLR with comparable lens, but sits more towards the top of the compact pricing tree. The RX100Mk2 has been my companion for many overseas trips and local events, because I know I can rely on it to give me good quality images, and I know I wonât get a sore back carrying it around â and it has proved remarkably reliable from hot steamy Singapore or Hong Kong in the wet season, to the snowfields of Europe. I actually find myself deciding to take it, rather than my big bulky ârealâ camera in many cases now. It produces pleasing Bokeh, handles low light with ease, and allows for bouts of creativity with options like HDR, panorama, etc. For travelling, I purchased an extra battery, but the battery life has exceeded my expectations, and I rarely find myself needing the 2nd one, even when I take hundreds of shots throughout the day.I particularly like that I can just hand it to someone to take my photo (whilst travelling) and be reasonably sure I will get a good shot even if the person using it has little experience with cameras. For these travel shots others take of me, I place it in Portrait mode, engage âSoft Skin Effect â Mid Levelâ (to produce a mild airbrushing effect that feeds my vanity), and turn the flash on to âfill modeâ. I also use this mode for âselfiesâ, holding the camera out at armâs length, with great results.I find the NFC pairing with WiFi control to be amazingly useful for group shots at dinner tables, parties, etc, and for shooting at unusual angles, such as above peopleâs heads in a crowd. A simple tap of the phone pairs it with the camera, and then I can see everything on my phone â zoom, compose, and take the shot. All in all, I really LOVE this camera, and apart from the minor issue of the lack of an affordable hot-shoe viewfinder (which the Mk3 provides in lieu of the hot-shoe, if that is a must for you), I would wholeheartedly recommend it to both beginners and professionals and everybody in between.

Only been using for about a week so canât give much of a review. In my day I was good at using manual film cameras. Not up to speed with this Sony digital camera yet. Iâve been taking some beautiful outdoor pictures but so far have had inconsistent results indoors. When I take my time I am usually able to get good pictures. However when Iâm in a hurry I get mixed results. Some good pictures and some terrible pictures indoors. All the problems are probably just my lack of experience with this new camera. One feature I donât like is the inability to select to have the flash on, even in manual mode. You can select auto flash, fill flash, etc. But I want the ability to select flash as my main lighting source sometimes especially when taking pictures of people indoors ... MoreOnly been using for about a week so canât give much of a review. When looking for a camera i had a handful of musts: * It had to be portable - This camera fits easily into my jeans pocket (without a case). Which makes its super easy to take out when I want to take a shot of my family * it had to take great pictures in low light situations - This is probably the area where this camera excels the most. I'm stunned at how crisp the images are with virtually no light. * it had to record high quality video - the sharpness of the videos created by this camera are incredible. Even in fast motion like sports the only cons i have: * The camera itself is a little on the heavy side. * I've noticed that when taking family shots of more than 2 people, there's a tendency for the image to be out of focus - especially in the auto modes. I've had to almost ditch using the cameras built in auto settings because of this annoyance. * there's a lot of modes and settings. So if you are someone who just wants to pick up the camera and take shots, you might be overwhelmed with the number of options and customization * I've nearly dropped this camera twice in the last couple weeks. Each time my heart stopped. I wish there was a protective case i could add to the body that would not add much size to the camera - that would serve to lessen the blow of damage it may incur on an impact
I bought this for times when I don't want to lug my DSLR around. It's perfect for travel, hikes, concerts, etc. when you want better quality and more functionality than your mobile phone offers. There are many cameras in this segment, but as all the reviews on the interweb testify, the image quality on this camera is superb. I especially appreciate its performance in low light. The 24-100mm lens could use a bit more zoom, but this is a small concession. The camera shoots sharp enough that, if you need more zoom, the 20mp image allows you to crop in closer. There are four version of this camera from which to choose. All take great photos, but they get progressively more expensive. There are four version of this camera from which to choose. All take great photos, but they get progressively more expensive. I opted for the MK2 because it adds a flip screen, slightly better sensor, a hot shoe and, most importantly, WIFI connection for not much more than the cost of the MKI. The jump to the MK3 or MK4 becomes very expensive, but I'm not sure that the extra features on these cameras justify the additional cost. Plus, the MK4 has even less zoom, which I find limiting. I'm used to shooting in full manual on my DSLR, but I've found with this camera I prefer to use one of the auto settings and let the camera do the work. It's a very smart device and usually can figure out the scene faster and more quickly than I can. Besides, the whole point of this is to have an easy-to-use travel camera, so I let the camera do its thing and it gets it right 99% of the time. The camera is body feels solid and has a nice heft without being bulky. It could be better ergonomically, but I got a sweet case from megagear that gives it a vintage look and makes it easy to carry. This camera is highly recommended.
Overall, Highly complex camera with plenty of features and high quality. At 20 megapixels the image quality is excellent. There are plenty of settings to utiliize so I would highly recommend reading through the manual a few times. This camera packs a powerful punch so get ready for a very versitile and professional camera in a compact design. I like the scene selection settings the best but also the intelligent auto settings take great shots as well. The Superior A+ overlay is a bit slow but does layer shots and creates beautiful pictures. I can tell it will take me a while to be able to understand and utilize the settings in this great little camera. Button placement is good, and placed well for a small design. I can tell it will take me a while to be able to understand and utilize the settings in this great little camera. Button placement is good, and placed well for a small design. A few flaws not in camera design but what came with my last compact - no external battery charger, they want you to charge the batt through the camera, Battery life seems ok but not great, however this camera does a lot. The optical zoom is good but could be a bit more powerful, perhaps 4x more. I don't know about Sony's repair or customer service ratings, but Canon's reputation is excellent, I wanted to get into a Canon instead but this RX-100M2 was around $550 in comparison. My recommendations: You will need an extra battery and external charger. The Watson batt and charger seem to work well. (B&H Photo is a great source and do well with the pricing and packaging.) LCD screen protector - cut one down from a cell phone pack. Small case - Case logic DCB-302 works well for $10. If shooting movies you will need a rig, like the Opteca X-grip or similar. A small mount/clampete - High Sierra M2. Overall great camera, you will not be dissapointed.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera has something on it that the I, III, IV, V, and VI do not have, a flash hot shoe. So, what's the big deal with the hot shot?I will tell you, in the real world interior flash shots with a pop up flash just do not make it for me. I like natural lighting when ever I get the chance. Enter the hot shoe. I mount my Sony 60 (you can also use Sony's two other smaller flashes) turn the head up and behind me for very natural, very pleasant results every time. And, if need be, you can adjust the exposure up or down using exposure comp on the camera or on the flash. Well, I have the one that gives me the advantage inside. All the RX100 camera's are outstanding and deliver superior Image Quality. Way to go Sony.
The camera was bought to replace a Panasonic equivalent which frankly, failed on many fronts. There`s a huge line up of facilities packed into the camera but the only criteria that matters is the sensor & Zeiss T star lens. Image quality is very good and in good light, clear. Anything else depends on the subject matter and available light. You may need some type of camera support for low light images. Still, that`s what image software`s there to rectify and there`s a large menu in the camera itself, relating to options. Maybe too many?I haven`t used the video as, 1 it doesn`t interest me and , 2 if I did want video I`d buy a real video camera.Overall, the camera`s possibly a wee bit small for hands used to say, a DSLR. A future version really needs better hand ... MoreThe camera was bought to replace a Panasonic equivalent which frankly, failed on many fronts. A future version really needs better hand gripping, as standard, especially at the price. However, most will use it for routine pictures. There are programmed settings for that.A neck strap allows a waist level view with the tiltable screen and steadies the camera better. Almost like going back to the old days of Rolleiflex & Hasselblad picture taking. Good for group pictures but not vertical image viewing.Easily transported and handy, bar the pop up flash`s tendency to appear under a finger when the technology decides it`s time for it to appear. Possibly best carried in one of these cases attached to a belt. It`s a good 2nd camera for those who need this facility but its limitations are defined when compared to bigger cameras say, the DSLR.Overall, good quality and well made. Better than spending a fortune on expensivecamera technology in a phone but maybe a bit steep on price?
I bought this camera a month ago and I'm not sure that I should have. It looks as though the pics are good but I have been unable to download them to either of my two computers. I have installed "Play Memories Home" but it fails to carry the images over. I also get an error message when trying to do the same wirelessly (having set a wireless connection correctly).I wanted a compact camera but this is getting too small for my (not large) hands. The on/off switch is minute and the shutter button is not obvious in its presence. When reviewing pictures taken and zooming in, it's annoying that it straight away zooms to maximum, rather than allowing this to take place gradually. But my biggest complaint is the manual: this is absolutely dreadful. It looks as though the pics are good but I have been unable to download them to either of my two computers. I have installed "Play Memories Home" but it fails to carry the images over. This is a complicated camera with lots of features. These are glossed over in a tiny booklet of 35 pages in print which is too small (and on poor quality paper). The wifi guide is separate (why?) and otherwise one is referred to various on-line resources, themselves extremely skimpy in content.I have attached two pictures. I followed through the procedure for downloading but when it came to actual transfer to the computer it 'hung' on the first one. So I went to view the pictures on drive E: via Play Memories Home. See first Picture.See second picture for the brick wall I encountered after having set up wifi for downloading pictures to my computer.NB computer = Windows with latest version Windows and IE
I bought this camera second hand after some research. I compared the speifications of the entire RX100 range along with similar offerings from Canon and decided that the Mark 2 offered what I needed. I wanted a large sensor compact camera for travel as I was fed up having to compromise on quality using a noisy small sensor in a standard point and shoot camera. The RX100M2 offers everything I wanted and I opted for the Mark 2 because it had the longest battery life, biggest zoom and an MI shoe for a flash gun and other accessories. I already have a Sony flash gun and another (Sony) camera that takes the same battery and remote control. I have been very happy with the camera since I have had it and it produces very good low noise pictures. RAW format files are ... MoreI bought this camera second hand after some research. I already have a Sony flash gun and another (Sony) camera that takes the same battery and remote control. I have been very happy with the camera since I have had it and it produces very good low noise pictures. RAW format files are editable in Sony's latest software offering. The size and weight of the camera are ideal for travel. There are a couple of negative points - the electronic eyepiece (should you want it) is extremely expensive compared to the current price of the camera, so remote shooting via WiFi will have to suffice. The image stabilisation is good, but still requires a very steady hand in low light. There have many improvements to image stabilisation in the last 5-6 years which I am sure are installed in the later cameras in this series. That said, this camera packs a massive punch in a tiny package.
