The Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G is a wide-angle lens for your Sony mirrorless camera. With the wide viewing angle, you can easily take photos of wide landscapes and architecture. You can easily take the lens with you on the go, thanks to the compact size and light weight. You can focus at a minimum distance of 18cm. This way, you can take photos from up close and capture the subject with the surroundings. Thanks to the maximum aperture of f/2.8, you can take sharp photos in the dusk or during sunrise. The autofocus is fast and silent, so you can record smooth video images without annoying sounds. The design can take a hit with the metal casing. The lens is also dust and splash proof, so you can take photos in bad weather conditions.

This small ultra-light lens also gives really sharp and high-contrast images. On my A7C body, this combination makes the best street photography set up for me.At first I wasn't sure about the wide 24mm focal length (I've been using almost exclusively 35mm focal length for many years), but this is turning out to be a really fun and comfortable angle for street photography. Sure, you have to get closer to your subjects, but not as aggressively as many people think-you can keep some distance and crop later with no problem due to the sharp images it produces.Lens choice is really personal thing, but street photographers who like to capture the intimate mood, or anyone looking for nice light weight wide angle prime, I'd recommend this lens without hesiataion at all.

This along with my 40mm G is a lens I always carry with me. The pair make an ideal combination and I find 24mm more useful than 28mm . The lens is very well build and is very sharp. The aperture ring and function button are great features to have on such a small lens.

Like the other prime G lenses in this series, this lens has excellent an build - all metal body, basic weather sealing, nice deep ribbing on the aperture and focus dials, and the added bonus of a focus hold/multi function button. And the image quality is also excellent in the center and mid-frame, and very good in the corners.Right now this 24, the 40mm 2.5 G (or 50mm) and 85mm 1.8 make an excellent three lens kit. Hopefully Sony will continue the success of this series and put out a 85mm G to match.

Great compact, wide angle lens! I get best results at F/11 for sharpness side to side. Lightweight, which is good for such activities as hiking or exploring in the mountains. Very well designed with the aperture ring so you can quickly make changes as needed. It is nice that you can select manual focus right from the lens and not have to dig through the menu. The image quality has been excellent. Very good value for the money spent for this lens. If you need a wide angle lens that is compact, then this one is highly recommended.
I paired this with the A7C for a backpack outing where I wanted to keep things light. I'm pretty impressed with the sharpness using this body. I think it's perfect for landscapes where size and weight matter and you're not planning aggressive crops. Wider angle/higher resolution shots can be had by shooting vertically oriented panoramas and combining them in Lightroom. Great value.
Wanted to love this lens but my tests showed the following compared to Sony 35mm f/1.8. I set both lenses in the same F stop: 2.8. Same white balance. Put the resulting video in Catalyst Browse and that is what catalyst reported: 35mm at f/2.8 Shutter speed ended up as 1/1000. 24mm at f/2.8 shutter speed ended up 1/500. Plus 24mm had way more vignetting in video, jpegs, and RAW compared to 35mm. And 35mm lens is not even a G lens. That 24 mm lens does not deserve G mark at all. It is losing the whole stop of light compared to 35mm lens at the same F stop 2.8, so Sony lied. I was taking videos and pictures of a completely white wall. Plus coloring was way off for 24mm. The resulting image was blue-ish while 24 mm resulting image was true white. There is no good 24mm ... MoreWanted to love this lens but my tests showed the following compared to Sony 35mm f/1.8. Great build, great quality image and its LIGHT. I pair this with my Sony FX3 and DJI Ronin S and it's a match made in heaven. I hate gimbals, but this lens with the FX3 is so easy to balance and setup that I can now see myself using a gimbal more. The lightweight lens also helps while filming. I can film all Fay and not get exhausted while shooting. I personally workout, but any weight advantage I can get, I'm going to take. Would highly recommend even if you purely only use with a gimbal.
If you're looking for a small compact lens for every day walking around, this one should definitely be considered! It's very compact and light and the quality is pretty good for the price. It's small enough to carry around all the time and your back will thank you. It's also good to vlog with because it's wider than usual (35mm) but if you have short arms, you might need to go wider than this 24mm lens. I like the build quality; does not feel cheap.
If you need a wide-enough-angle lens, this may be for you. I have owned several primes from 20mm (widest) to 85mm (narrowest), from Sony to Tamron, and this one performs as good if not better including Auto Focus and video. So great that I sold my 20mm. Now I'm waiting for my 35-150mm Tamron II and those will be enough for what it need (and then I could sell more of my lenses I don't need). Then later to step up to 200-600mm and I'll be all set.
What a little gem. I've got two top class G Master lenses which are great but hefty. That makes the whole package a bit much for lugging around in the mountains. This little lens, and it is 'wee', both in physical dimensions and weight, works so well for me. An A4R has become my always with me, barely know I'm carrying it choice of weapon.Optically and mechanically the lens is wonderful. I'm sure it might be possible to nit pic through critical evaluation and comparison but I'm very impressed and I'd normally be a bit of a pixel peeper.I angsted about the focal length but 24mm is proving to be wide enough for me without and problems of framing / distortion.
