I use this with my Tamron 24mm for family and street photography. Great lens with clear and bright images. The only criticism I have is the minimum distance which makes it limited up close. Defiantly a great prime lens

I absolutely love this lens. Super lightweight, compact and a joy to use. The sharpness is excellent edge to edge and focusing silent. I shoot weddings, and was missing this focal length as I have the 24mm 1.4 GM and 55mm 1.8 in this focal length area. I found the 24mm a little wide for family formals and the 55mm too to tight. This lens is perfect for the job and many other types of subjects. Iām also getting into video and having done a few test shoots itās fast becoming the lens Iāll keep on my A7R4 for the job. Fast AF, silent and so lightweight. Love it!

I received this lens from B&H (as promised) on April 24th and used it throughout the weekend. This 35mm 1.8 joins my 24mm 1.4 GM, 24-70 GM, 85mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, and Zeiss-Batis 18mm. I am completely satisfied with its sharpness and autofocus. Although I mainly shoot photography, I do some video work as well and love the ability to shoot at the true 35mm focal length without having to use that option in-camera and losing a bit of video quality with the pinch-in. This lens is absolutely fantastic. The colours, contrast, and overall image quality is absolutely superb, even whilst at f1.8. I originally sold this lens to get a 35mm compact camera, and almost immediately regretted it. I bought this lens again, and have loved it ever since. Clients love the images it produces, I love the size and functionality of the lens, and what's best? It's a fraction of the price of the 35mm g-master. If you are umming and arring over which one to get, definitely choose this one.
Sold my Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 in favor of this lens. The Sigma was incredibly sharp wide open but in my tests the Sony is sharper wide open. The Sigma does have a little better bokeh due to 1.4 but not a deal breaker for me. I have come to find that native Sony lenses just perform better regardless of the situation and I don't mind sacrificing bokeh. This lens is on par sharpness wise with the sharpest lenses I have owned including the Zeiss 55mm 1.8 and Sigma Art 85mm 1.4. Highly recommended.
Light, small, impressively sharp wide-angle prime lens that delivers contrasty, crisp detail across the frame even wide open, with a super smooth bokeh. Good close focus performance, extremely fast to focus, negligible distortion Linear focus response / no breathing. this is what preview tell about this lens : "Compared to the premium-priced ZEISS Distagon F1.4, the Sony FE 35mm F1.8 is much sharper at all apertures, and generally delivers prettier, simpler and more uniform bokeh. The fact that the FE 35mm F1.8 is almost as sharp wide open as our reference fast 35mm - the Canon EF 35mm F1.4L II USM - is impressive."
On the waiting of this lens I went through Minolta md 35 1.8, voigtlander 40 1.4 and 1.2 and Ultron 35 1.7. So When this one was out there I jump into it. Impressive sharpness at 1.8 already with very very good corners, a smooth blur background and the most important, beautiful rendering. As I told you I did use very nice glass before this one and I will choose the sony over the others, ok, yes, if one day Voigtlander nokton 40 mm 1.2 come out with an af version I will definitely trade the sony :). But that is very unlikely to happen. I also did considere the distagon 1.4 but as sone reviews out there show (mManny Ortiz for ex), is not as sharp as the 1.8, the blur is smoother yes... but The size and weight was also into consideration over the distagon 1.4.
I am so glad I brought this lens. It is well built and the image quality is amazing as expected from a Sony Lens. I had a third party 35mm which I was not happy with so I bought this and the difference is like night and day. I mainly use it for video work. Used it for some youtube work and my wife's cooking channel and she is also happy with the quality this lens has brought. The focus hold button and auto to manual switch are some nice features. Photography has been excellent as well with the images being sharp. Bokeh is vry nice as well.
I bought this lens about a months ago to pair with my a6400 to use for portraits, as the FOV is roughly the same as 50mm full frame. It is the best purchase of a prime I could have made. The lens is so small and light, it makes the setup so easy to carry and very discreet for shooting with. The images are pin sharp and the focus is rapid. It has reasonable levels of weather sealing and the focus button on the side adds extra control options in to the mix. I would highly recommend this lens!
It is a great lens, the autofocus is silent and fast, works great in low light situations, solidly built and light weight. On manual mode (my preferred) you can easily change settings via your camera as well as using the focus ring. This lens is versatile from a use perspective and will be apt for both professional and amateur photographers. If you are on-the-go, the automatic settings wonāt fail you or if you are meticulous about taking shots you can work on your exposure settings to work on your composition. For those new to the Sony ecology, this would be a awesome starter lens if you are not into using kit lenses.
