The Sony LMD-A240 24 LCD Production Monitor is a portable 1920 x 1200 resolution monitor for on set studio and broadcast use. The monitor features an IPS LCD display with wide 178? horizontal and vertical viewing angles and provides 3G/HD/SD-SDI HDMI and composite inputs which support NTSC/PAL 720p 1080i and 1080p input signals with frames rates from 24p to 60p. The monitor introduces several new features and upgrades from previous LMD series monitors including a new low latency automatic I/P conversion new video processing engine for improved image accuracy on screen tally and yoke mounting screw holes. The monitor also provides a wide range of professional monitoring features such as built-in waveform and vectorscope focus assist with adjustable colored peaking time code display and a Slog2 to Rec 709 LUT. I am an editor working from a home studio, using prem on an iMac. Up until recently doing mostly off-line work, so was using a cheap LG HDTV as a monitor. However more and more requiring to do my own grading, for a lot of stuff that ends up on the web. This monitor is great! gives you the pro features at a reasonable price. The hdmi input allows you to output direct from Imac and gives you a rec709 set-up in your display settings. A little bit of tweaking with colour bars and you are good to go

These have the image quality of a mediocre computer monitor panel. Charging over $3,000 dollars for these is completely ridiculous. I commonly spend between 3 and 10 thousand dollars on my monitors and these are a deep disappointment. Do not recommend for any application.

Just a FYI, I just got one because I needed something for editing other than my monitor. It handles colors well, what I mean is you can correctly set it so you can check your levels. What I am not really pleased with is the HD quality, even with the camera connected direct its ok, not as sharp as I would like make my video looks like. So with that I its the only sub $1000 monitor out there and believe me I have been looking even used and couldn't find one for this price. So I am still happy for what I spent, I will be saving my pennies for a much better monitor in the future (about 300000 pennies to be more exact). I needed a video monitor and it fits my bill for now. If you do any video work you need a monitor you can set color bars to and this will do it. I purchased this Sony broadcast monitor for full screen playback and couldn't be happier. Setup was a breeze and the color calibration straightforward: I'm using it for color correction etc. The construction is solid and all in all, it's a pretty rugged broadcast reference monitor that's priced very competitively. Highly recommended!
This monitor was purchased to monitor our church services as opposed to using an HD TV..colors were right on,at least for our purposes,probably not what you want to do critical color correction...that being said,the picture was absolutely beautiful and that's the main reason we decided to keep it....we liked to many options to adjust picture...monitor feels solid, it has some weight to it, and looks professional, if that matters to you.Considering the price vs. the high end monitors available, we are totally pleased. Also took it on location for a local shoot and it did an outstanding job giving us an idea what our footage was going to look like before we actually started recording. I needed a location monitor large enough for a small groups of clients (video village). Running off battery wasn't a requirement, nor were many of the higher end features like waveform or SDI. So far, this unit has been great. I added a Lexan front panel with Velcro to protect the screen (it can come off if reflections are an issue) and the LCD has a matte finish and barely reflects at all. It fits nicely in a Pelican 1610 rolling case, even with a VESA back plate w/mount for a C-stand and the desk stand attached. It could be a bit brighter, for outside use and the color adjustments are basic, at best. But it's looking fine without much calibration. ok, so I have had it now for awhile and once I got it correctly dialed in works great. I can now now what my final result will look like on any HDTV for color balance. I didn't have any photos last time, and I just mounted it over my other monitor to make it easier for viewing. Don't use HDMI, RGB allows for more persice controls over dialing it in. You can use HDMI but I was not able to get what I wanted. Mounting bracket was only $ and well worth it.
The monitor produces an adequate image. It is limited in the resolution. However, it is sturdy, nice looking, with a feeling of reliability. The short cord is the one drawback.
