The reader is excellent but not cheap. I don't enjoy buying accessories that seem a luxury. I can download photos off my Nikon D850 XQD card with a USB cable. Not so with Fujifilm X-H2 and the CFexpress Card Type B. Apparently there is a problem with the Mac OS and USB transfer is not possible. When I called Fuji, they acknowledged and explained the problem suggesting that i purchase a card reader. A Plan B is to copy photos & videos from CF to SD in-camera then read the SD in my computer which works but it is not a satisfactory procedure. So I bought the SONY reader because it conveniently reads both CF & XQD cards.

When writing data to the cards, the same reader that idled at 172 got hotter and automatically throttled its speed down to a useless 28 MB/s. This Sony reader never got hotter than 140 deg. Hi. This is good product and worked for what I needed it for: Transferring images from my XQD card to my iPad Pro into Lightroom mobile. This is accomplished via USB-C. One thing I noticed is I had to connect directly to the USB-C port on the iPad. I could not connect via the port on the Magic keyboard. Transfer is fast as expected with XOD. There are probably other manufacturers that do the same thing, but I went with SONY since I use the SONY XQD card which are equally reliable. Other benefit: Much easier to use than connect directly to your camera. Transfers with the camera drain your battery in a quick manner and are slow.

So I recently bought a Nikon Z 7ii and needed to update the firmware. With Nikon Z series, you have to update the firmware from the memory card. My old card reader didn't accept XQD cards. I tried reconfiguring the camera to accept the SD card as the primary one, but couldn't get the firmware update to work using the SD card in any configuration. So, I bought this Sony Card reader, reset the primary card to the XQD card and accomplished the firmware update in about 2 minutes start to finish. This product might be a tad more pricey than others, but it worked beautifully and saved me a lot of time, and most importantly, I didn't have to take the camera to Nikon for assistance (they were unable to help me with this issue via chat and email).
After reading multiple reviews about this particular card reader I decided it was THE ONE I needed. Of course, so had everyone else and it was back-ordered. I put it on my B+H waitlist and within a few weeks it became available and I bought it before it could get sold out again. I actually owned an XQD card BEFORE the Sony reader, as I bought the XQD card when it was on sale. If you shoot a lot of photos the XQD card is a necessity. The fact that this reader could also read CF express cards was a plus.
I bought this to replace an older Sony XQD card reader (model MRW-E90), which quit working after just a few years (bad USB connection). Hopefully this one will last longer. So far it is working perfectly. Seems to have a bit more solid case as well.For the price these things should last more that a few years.
I got this card reader because I added a CF Express card to my collection of XQD cards. It reads my old Sony type G XQD cards and my new Sandisk CF Express. Performance on the XQD cards is slightly better than the old Sony XQD/SD reader. The CF Express performance is better on USB connection, and even better when using the a Thunderbolt connection. It seems like the Solid State drive speed becomes the limit.
After buying a notebook computer with USB-C ports, I wanted a card reader that could take advantage of the speed. I first bought a cheap no-name reader from a different vendor, but found that it was very slow, slower than the USB3 reader that came with my XQD cards. Then I went back and read the reviews, finding some who said that the cheap reader had intermittent problems that actually destroyed data on their camera cards! Into the trash it went, and I immediately bought this Sony card reader. It's been fast and trouble free.
It has worked well for me for both supported card types. I saw in another review where the reviewer heavily dinged the reader for its performance with a USB-C to USB-A cable. I just compared both connection types on my PC and don't see nearly the degradation reported in that other review. I copied 4.5GB off of a CFexpress card with each cable type, the C-to-C averaged 190 MB/sec, the C-to-A averaged 120 MB/sec. So the C-to-A was about a third slower. I'll speculate that in the other case it wasn't connected to a USB3 port when using the A connector or it wasn't recognized as being a USB3 device in that case.I try to remember to eject the card as soon as I'm done copying as it will heat up quite a bit. I initially thought that the CF express cards could be read using my Sony XQD/SD reader, but quickly realized that this didn't work when my camera arrived.
