This DAP is exceptional... sound is similar to the Sony WM1A. This player is fast (Android 9) and although the SONY Music app is ideal for high res files (Flac, DSD, DSF) you can load any Android app you choose, including Tidal. I use Tidal High Res streaming and it sounds as good as my Flac files loaded on a 400GB card. Sony is back. Yes, they have higher ended units. But this one has Android built in. Finally you can listen to Tidal, Qobuz and other services. Sound wise its fantastic. User interface is Android and simple to use. Unit is small fits in hand perfectly. Great price point for all you get. Go grab one Highly recommended. Im going to see my Hiby R6 pro. It blows it away.

Period. - Preloaded with bloatware you are unlikely to want on a DAP; not removable. - No biometric unlocking. It's an Android device linked to your Google account, so it needs to be secure--don't make me enter a code just to change my playlist! - USB port is awkwardly located on side of device; impractical to connect headphones via an in-line DAC, which you might want to do to get better digital to analog conversion. - Won't recognize microSD card unless formatted within the device. Cards that worked effortlessly in my other DAP (a Hidizs AP80) and in 2 Android phones would not be recognized by the Sony. - Can't load music except via cable connection. I tried ejecting the microSD card and inserting it into my Mac (works dandy with my other microSD cards as used in my other devices)--card was unreadable, and the effort to read it seems to have corrupted it, forcing me to reformat it. - Loading music via cable is so slow I just want to kill myself.
This thing rules. Great sound. Intuitive interface. Clean and snappy. Very ergonomic. Fits perfectly in one hand. I have owned many DAPs over the past few years: Sony NW-A55, Hidizs AP60 II, AP80 Pro, and AP80 Pro-X, Fiio M9 and M11 Pro, Shanling M2X and M3X, Hiby R2, R3 Pro Saber, R5 Saber, and R5 (gen 2) to name a few. This one is my favorite so far and the one that I plan to hold onto for a while. The only one that hasn't left me with upgraditis. No regrets.
Acquired at discount from Sony during a warranty replacement of a previous model Walkman. I am pleased with Sony's courteous and kindness during the warranty claim. I am very pleased with the Sony Walkman ZX500. Combining it with the Sony WF1000XM4 true wireless headphones gives a much better audio experience than what I was having before with their previous products. Being an android device I am very familiar with the interface and interactivity. A lot of effort has been put into the product design to get information about user interactivity then make better features and future products. Thank you kindly. Enjoy.
Sound quality is stunning! With HD660S (balanced cable) is more enjoyable, detailed and revealing than from Chord Mojo. Walkman app is responsive and Sony done it very well. For streaming you need dedicated app, Tidal etc. And here is time for few cons. Android is sluggish (except Walkman app) + no Roon (it needs GL 3.0). Screen is medicore, should be oled instead. Battery life ok/medicore offline, it would be dissapering quickly if wifi is on. I use wifi only to sync music via syncthing then turning it off. Materials and body quality is really good. Overally I'm very happy and enjoy listening music from this little great player.
Only had it a couple of weeks but am very impressed with the sound. Play only my own music on it from ripped CD (FLAV and WAV mainly) collection over many years and a few Hi-Res tracks I have purchased. Battery life is not the best, but I have a small Power Bank that I can slip in my pocket if needed. Not really a problem as I am an old bloke and mainly listen during the night when sleep is hard to find!I find the music is a bit too much bass with my WF-1000xm4's but excellent with my WH-1000xm3's . Sorry Sony but the best sound is a pair of wired in ear Senn****ers. Crisp and clear sound. I ma invest in some in ear balanced phones yet,In General..... love the player to bits!!

The battery management was indeed a nightmare. All the bad reviews about the battery were true. Had to plug the unit in with my computer (since it did not come with a wall charging adaptor) as constant as possible. Battery would drop from 100% to about 40% on standby with wifi on; and with flight-mode, to about 70-80%, in 6-8 hours. Finally a Small Hi res player, small and easy to use, battery life is around 5-6 hours streaming Hi res from tidal and using ldac. Which seems to suit my needs. I was set on the W1ma initially but chose this instead.Both the sony store and the retailer added in it could be used as a Dac so far I have not figured out how that function works, everywhere I look says its not supported ? Sony pls help us to enable this feature, if this did work as a DAC I would probably rate at 5 stars as the ultraportability and light weight is close enough for smaller hands to use.
