This is an incredible prime lens, we finally have compact primes from Sony that do the small A7 series justice.40mm is quickly my favorite focal length, which makes sense really. In my opinion the improvement between f5.6 and f11 is so minimal that it doesn't justify the loss of light.It's incredibly lightweight.Fully weather sealed w/ metal construction, this is definitely a G lens don't be mislead by its size.I've not had a need for the lens hood which is great because it takes away from how compact it is.

This is a sharp little lens, with a quick autofocus. The lens seems to be good and sharp all the way across the frame. The build quality is very good, but the price does seem a bit high when compared to similar lenses from other manufacturers. The lens, when paired with the A7C, makes a very small kit for full frame street photgraphy. Overall, I can easily recommend this lens.

By no means am I a professional or someone who tests lenses with charts and all that. However, I can tell you that this is a very well-built prime lens. The G-master badge fits the construction and feel, even if it's not meant to be the end-all be-all. On an A72 it focuses fast, the 2.5 stops of light are more than enough for daily, mess-around photography, and I bet someone more skilled than me could get a lot out of this glass. I also love how small it is on a full-frame body (and can imagine the size is even more welcome for A7C owners). The focal length is perfect for me: unique enough from a 35mm or nifty 50 to spark creativity. It's different, affordable, and capable.
