I purchased this little Sony speaker many years ago and it still works. The sound quality is nothing special, but it easily pairs with my devices and the small size makes it convenient to move from room to room in my house. If I put the volume up, I could easily hear this from a different room and consider the volume range to be good. This does not have a clear off switch, and I do think the battery dies sooner because it is still searching to pair. This is a decent speaker that was worth the money, but nothing special that sets it apart.

I bought this speaker for a friend. She absolutely loves it. She brings is with her to the beach, and outback for pool parties. Gives off the right sound, tone and the colour is so vibrant. The perfect gift and the price was right.

Got this as a gift from work.. I use it occasionally and so does my teen. I do have a few other Bluetooth speakers, small large. I use those occasionally as well, just depending on where we are, what’s going on, and which one is easiest accessible for me lol It works great, and it’s cute (pink!). Good sound, no connection issues for either of us. Recommended

It’s a cool looking speaker and like most Sony products the sound is great. Overall it works just as it should and has good sound. It’s nothing special necessarily (no reason to buy it if you have a working speaker) but still very nice.

Overall the speaker is great. I take it everywhere, literally. I use it for my backyard or volleyball sessions mostly. The lights are so cool synching with the music and the sound is amazing. Only problem i have with it is that is does not have wheels since its a big speaker. It is not heavy but if youre walking a far distance then you eventually will get tired since its kinda big. I knew it would be big and I didnt care because i usually take a wagon cartto my sessions anyway so I would just throw it in there. Just a little advice if you plan on buying it, Don’t expect it to actually be super portable. It will take a little effort to take it to places but the hassle will be worth it

Despite being smaller than a tennis ball this little speaker has excellent sound in the low range. It sounds neither tinny or muddy as nearly all small speakers do.I wouldn't have expected this quality of sound out of such a small speaker except for the fact that it's a Sony product. My wife--who loves her Apple iPhone 5S--takes this speaker with her everywhere both in and out of the house. Her first worry was about getting it dirty or scratched up because it is a beautiful item, and is very pleased with the little mesh bag it comes in. The speaker in it's soft case easily fits in the cup holder of a car, outdoor camp chair, or in her pocketbook or handbag.Something we hadn't considered when ordering is that it also works as a speaker phone. So if you need a speaker phone for a group to participate in a conference call while you're on the road or if you're a mobile professional, this is an excellent, business-appropriate solution.Bottom Line: Don't expect room filling sound out of this tiny speaker, but as a personal speaker AND speaker phone there's nothing better in terms of sound quality and performance.

My first Bluetooth speaker was hot pink and I loved it! I took it out to the pool with me and cranked it when I was cleaning the house. It has great bass and the distance is pretty decent as well. My son knocked it in the pool and didn’t tell me and ruined it. The next one was a Google and looks a little more grown up lol. I still will always prefer my pink one because it’s my favorite color and looks really cool.

The first thing that hit me about this speaker was its compact size, especially buying it sight unseen online. It's slightly smaller than a tennis ball and fits very easily in the palm of your hand. This makes it an ideal candidate for travellers wanting some tunes on the go without having to resort to headphones, its always nicer when you can share your music listening with a friend. It's design is quite futuristic and kind of reminds me of something you might see in the computer game "Portal", especially in white which I opted for. Weighing it up in your hand, it's certainly not too heavy but feels sturdy and well balanced with most of its weight in the bottom half of the sphere. Weighing it up in your hand, it's certainly not too heavy but feels sturdy and well balanced with most of its weight in the bottom half of the sphere. There are volume control buttons on the unit however I prefer to just leave it at max and control volume via my phone. A "phone" button also allows you to take a call (or hangup) when used as a handsfree speaker/mic.The charger port and audio input jack are both hidden behind a little door, another nice design thought. The base of the unit hides a single switch that controls the on/off and pairing switch and the rim of the base features a blue led which lets you know its there but subtle enough to annoy at night. There's also a recessed reset button just in case you ever need to reset back to factory setting. Its important to note that you need to hold the slider switch towards "pairing" for several seconds until it beeps if you wish to pair a new device, I seem to remember on first use this may not have been necessary, but if you are not big on reading manuals this could be a handy tip.Sound output is enough to fill a small to medium room and certainly ideal for travelling or camping. You are never going to get a huge amount of bass from a unit of this size so if you are into window shattering dubstep you may be out of luck, but for most musical styles the output is surprising for its size. The single speaker actually faces upwards towards the ceiling but the sound is directed outwards by a cleverly designed cap at the top of the device. Sony also thought to include a little carrying pouch to keep the speaker from getting scratched when travelling.Playback time is excellent for a battery operated unit, easily giving me several hours of listening from a full charge, batteries are incorporated as part of the speaker so don't need replacing and should hopefully give me several years of service. A USB charging cable is included, however I would have personally liked to have seen the inclusion of a compact charger as well so I could have the option of leaving it permanently plugged in on a shelf if I wanted. However if you have an iPhone charger you can simply use this to charge with the included cable, or other phone chargers with micro USB cable would also likely be compatible (such as my wife's Galaxy S2 Charger). Naturally you can also charge from the USB port of a computer. The inclusion of a standard audio input jack is handy for those that need it (I haven't used it yet but would perhaps be useful for a Tablet or phone that doesn't support bluetooth). It's ability to function as a handsfree speaker/mic for your calls is a nice addition although also not something I use often.I don't personally have an NFC compatible phone so this feature of the device is a little wasted on me, however it's nice to know it's there for when I upgrade my phone or for when less NFC challenged friends pop over for a visit and want a very quick and easy connection. All in all a very well designed, easy to use and capable device that wont shake the windows but will give you a bucket load of portable listening pleasure, especially if you can pick it up during a sale like I did.

Excellent sound quality; 1 design defect

The speaker produced enough sound that would be more than enough to fill a couple of average sized rooms, maybe even a small house. The sound was quite clear and thick with a decent amount of bass (for a portable speaker) to bring out the lows. My phone and my laptop connected very quickly via Bluetooth and maintained an unhindered connection throughout its usage. Even with Bluetooth, the sound was still quite nice (from a distance of approximately 15 feet). My main problem with this speaker is its mostly touch-only interface. While sleek-looking, it's easy to get sweat, grease, and other unwanted stuff on the touch indicators. Adding to this issue is the fact that the power button is one of the only buttons that you can physically press down on. Adding to this issue is the fact that the power button is one of the only buttons that you can physically press down on. Essentially, if your touch indicators stop working, then you now have nonfunctional device besides being able to power it on and off. My own speaker died after only a week of usage due to some unknown reason.Nonetheless, I am willing to give Sony the benefit of the doubt in that this malfunction was just limited to a handful of devices - one of them obviously being mine. Moreover, the positive experiences that I have had with Sony, in general, strengthens my position that this device was just a rare fluke. As such, I still would recommend this product for the quality of sound that I was able (briefly) enjoy.

Very good Bluetooth speaker

Firstly, the associate I spoke to assured me that this model (SRS-X5) was the one shown during CES 2015 (SRS-X55) and so I purchased it. It was not.The SRS-X55's main draw for me was it's casting ability. However given that it can be connected very easily through Bluetooth I hardly miss it or even notice it's not there. There are instances when my music will stutterer or skip but they are very few and far between. Mostly when my connected device is out of range. Since I've purchased the speaker 6 months ago it has occurred less times then I can count on one hand. The volume and audio quality is superb. I've never had to have my speaker or connected device on full volume. And I like my music loud. However, when the speaker itself isn't connected to a power source and instead operates off battery the volume and audio quality suffer though only slightly.Overall I've been very happy with the SRS-X5. My only complaints are the few performance issues when not connected directly to a power source and the slight stuttering when my connected device starts to fall out of the speaker's range.
