Sony The Last of US Part II

Everything that I've done. It can't be for nothing. Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors. When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible, one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.

A Graphical Showpiece with Flaws

Okay, let me start off by saying I knew what I was getting into when I bought this title. It certainly carries a lot of controversy behind it, but it also carries a ridiculously high pedigree to go along with. The developers, Naughty Dog, are known for pushing the graphical fidelity of any PlayStation game they develop to their maximum limit, and often back it up with smooth gameplay to go along with. This title is certainly no exception to that rule, graphically it's one of the best looking titles on PS4, looking fantastic on the PS4 Pro with the environments absolutely bursting with detail. They truly did go all out to paint a post-apocalyptic landscape that is teeming with flora and some fauna to go along with, it's absolutely jaw-dropping to look at and there's ... MoreOkay, let me start off by saying I knew what I was getting into when I bought this title. They truly did go all out to paint a post-apocalyptic landscape that is teeming with flora and some fauna to go along with, it's absolutely jaw-dropping to look at and there's a fair amount of it to explore when the game truly begins to open up.Gameplay wise, it's quite good too. The combat is visceral and there's nothing more satisfying than getting stealth kills and not having to use your limited supply of ammunition. There are moments in the game where the action can get very intense and as the game itself opens up, you have some form of exploration between destinations. I wouldn't say it's open world or a sandbox by a nautical mile though, but it does its job and does it well. The game does pick up from the previous installment, and sees the return of Joel and Ellie, the protagonist and deuterologist of the first game. It is also quite LGBTQ friendly in terms of character development to boot, which is great. It makes all the characters seem much more human and believable. The voice acting is top notch, the actors and actresses reprising their roles and the new ones who stepped in to the studio all did a fantastic job of conveying emotion. It's the story where the game truly begins to falter. I'm going to come out and say it right now, this is no masterpiece of storytelling. This is where the whole thing almost falls apart. The story leaves much to be desired, I won't say how though as I wish not to spoil it for those who haven't played the game yet, but trust me, it's not nearly as satisfying as it could've been. All in all though, the game itself is solid, all the foundations are there, but it could've been so much better than what it is. Somehow the game feels less than the sum of its parts. Don't let my opinion deter you much though, like I said, it's a decent action/survival horror game that serves as an absolute graphical showpiece on what the PS4 is truly capable of, and basically serves as one of the systems major swan songs. If you can overlook the flawed story, you'll be in for a good time.

It just falls short of the overall greatness of the the first game.

Overall, it was a good game, ND got so many things right, & I love the whole Last of Us universe, but the fractured relationship between Joel & Ellie felt like I missed a Part 1.5, also, the Bonus features such as turning on Infinite Ammo & Crafting felt odd for a survival horror game, it would have been better if they had put in a "gameplay mode", that allowed you to skip the cutscenes automatically, I would also like if they added the ability to lockpick vehicles for more items & collectables. It took me just over 33hrs (I skipped as many cutscenes as possible) to complete the game, & I found 197 items & collectables. I would rate the game a 7.5 - 8 out of 10.

I was annoyed by the rewinding of time to play as a whole other character that I didn't feel much of a connection to. This made the game feel like it was outstaying its welcome.-As mentioned before, there were some inconsistencies with story beats such as Joel revealing his identity or the way the main story ended before jumping ahead in time.-Some of the open-world sections were a bit too open-world for my taste. It just felt like I was constantly scavenging and it slowed down the pace of the game.

Polarizing Game - Read Why

The gameplay is great. Graphics are great. The game length is pretty good. Here's the concern: The first game is a practical masterpiece. The second game was hugely anticipated. Unfortunately, certain decisions around this game will be a tossup with players. Whether these decisions bother you or not, it will depend on if you're willing to take the plunge on this game. Severely misunderstood gem

This game was absolutely INCREDIBLE! Without a doubt this is one of the best stories i have ever experienced. The story was extremely unique and thought provoking, and it made me feel the full range of emotions over the course of its runtime. In conventional narrative fiction, there are ‘good’ characters and there are ‘bad’ characters. While this structure is good at creating easy to consume stories with likeable protagonists, it is not a true reflection of reality. In real life, no one is entirely evil, and no one is entirely good. While this structure is good at creating easy to consume stories with likeable protagonists, it is not a true reflection of reality. In real life, no one is entirely evil, and no one is entirely good. Everyone has their own motivation for why they are acting the way that they are. What i love about this game is that every character acts in a way that they think is justified. In doing so, conflict is created and characters in different groups all begin to hate each other. The game does a fantastic job of showing how even though we humans may split ourselves into different tribes and groups, fundamentally what we all want is the same. The game’s message is that violence is never the way to resolve conflict, as no one ever wins when violence is involved.Overall i would highly recommend you play this game. It had a profound impact on me, and it very likely will have a profound impact on you too. Don’t let the bad reviews discourage you. Allow yourself to come to your own conclusion about this incredible game.***THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF MY SPOILER REVIEW!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!***At the end of the first last of us game, Joel made an extremely difficult and consequential decision. He decided to save Ellie, and as a result prevented the creation of a vaccine and caused the deaths of millions of people around the world and possibly doomed humanity to extinction. This act was incredibly selfish and could easily be interpreted as evil. This game deals with the consequences of that decision. It explores the paths of two characters, Ellie and Abby, characters who were on different sides of Joel’s decision.Joel kills Abby’s father, who was trying to create a vaccine that would save humanity. This is something that Abby cannot forgive him for, and so she seeks revenge and murders him. From Abby’s perspective, Joel is the villain and she is entirely justified in her decision to kill him.Ellie obviously loves Joel, as he saved her life. In response to his murder, she views Abby as the villain, and seeks revenge on her and her crew. She travels to Seattle and ruthlessly murders all of Abby’s friends in her pursuit of justice. She becomes increasingly deranged throughout her campaign, and you as the player are forced to do some incredibly morally reprehensible things as her. I found this to be incredibly thought provoking, as it demonstrates how one violent act begets another, how the cycle of violence is continuous and how it is very difficult to break. For the second half of the game, you are forced to play as Abby. She realises that killing Joel hasn’t actually made her feel any better about the loss of her father. She realises that violence will not make her feel better, and she refuses to join the WLF’s attack on the seraphites. She instead decides to save the lives of two seraphite kids who have been shunned by their community. This segment of the game shows how all humans, regardless of tribe (WLF or seraphite), are fundamentally all the same. The war between the WLF and Seraphites at the end of Abby’s journey shows that no one wins in war, and everyone loses. It demonstrates that violence is never the way to resolve disputes.Right at the end of the game, when Ellie confronts Abby, she realises that killing Abby won’t bring Joel back, and that Abby’s motivations are just as valid as hers. She spares Abby, and the game ends. While i understand much of the criticism directed at this story, and i recognise that it isn’t for everyone, i had an absolutely incredible experience playing this game. At its core, the game teaches us that violence is never the correct way to handle a situation. It does this by exposing the player to some of the most horrific violence imaginable, to demonstrate the severe consequences that it can have.If you have made it this far into my review, i just want to say thank you. I don’t normally write reviews for games, but this one stuck with me for a while after i finished playing it, and i had to get this off my chest. This game absolutely deserves all of the game of the year awards it received, and is easily one of the best games ever created.

Story aside, still a solid game to experience
13 May 2022

I know there's a lot of controversy about this game, especially regarding its story, but there is still a solid game that I think people should still experience. Plays just like the first game, but adds more. Graphics have been improved and a lot of minute details have been added to make a very convincing experience. More combat mechanics have been added, which makes fights more interesting and more flexible. Before you judge on the story before trying the game, just at least give it a try. The worst that can happen is that you've wasted an hour or so playing the game. If you're dead set on not playing the game at all, I think it's a shame and you may miss out on something that you thought you may have not liked. Personally, it was a fun experience for me.

The Last of Us Part II - A Gaming Masterpiece with
6 April 2023

I recently purchased The Last of Us Part II Standard Edition for my PlayStation 4, and I have to say, I am completely blown away by this game! The graphics are absolutely stunning, and the gameplay is incredibly engaging and immersive. The storyline is also one of the best I've ever experienced in a video game.
