Probably the best sounding wireless headphones Iâve used. Any time Iâm given an equalizer to customize a sound system, Iâm boosting the bass while trying to make sure lyrics and higher frequency tones are still heard. The ULT out of the box just gives you clean bass that doesnât muddle or distort at higher volumes. The bass is there, and youâll notice it, but if you try to hear the other tones and notes, youâll find them too, which is a pleasant break away from the artificial boosting other headphones try to deliver.Keeping focused on the unique offering from this product, there are two different Bass settings you can quickly activate using the dedicated ULT button on the left earcup. I find myself gravitating to the ULT1 setting which elevates the bass frequencies. ULT2 setting really comes in strong with the Bass. While I find that ULT2 delivers on itâs promise, I find that while boosting bass can enhance the experience if thatâs your preference, the ULT2 setting is just too distracting for me. You can also turn this off and manually adjust the EQ as well, but I found it doesnât quite have the same oomf as the ULT setting being on.I highly recommend you download the headphones app so you can access all the features and customizations. The ULT Wear adopted several features I liked about the WH-1000xm5. The multi device connection allows me to listen to music on my phone then easily switch to my PC for teams calls. Sonyâs noise cancellation is as good as the competition. A co-worker knocked on my office door, came in, and said my name, and I didnât notice them until I just happened to look up which I think is a testament to how well it works. I also thoroughly enjoy the ambient sound mode which works very well. Iâm able to easily watch TV or hold conversations without having to take the headphones off. You can hold your palm over the right ear cup and go full ambient sound from noise canceling and pull your hand away to go right back. Also, within the app you can create your own custom EQ or choose from one of the presets. You can also use the âFind your Equalizerâ feature to select between several different sound profiles to create a custom EQ that saves under the Custom 2 for later use. Another useful setting is the adaptive noise cancellation where the headphones will detect your activity and surrounding sound and automatically apply noise cancelling or ambient sound depending on the type and intensity of the sound around you or if youâre walking down the street or just sitting at your desk.As far as wearing for long periods of time Iâve had no issue. The ear cushions are very comfortable and while after several hours, my ears are maybe just a bit warm but just a short break after a couple hours is enough to reset the clock. The cushion on the head band is made out of the same soft foam material and wears comfortably as well. I would say the one downside is, possibly in an effort to keep these light and affordable, thereâs a lot of plastic to the build. Considering the quality of the sound and the features loaded into this, I feel like it was a design choice to keep these functional and accessible. Finally, a few notable proâs and conâs. The headset came with a nice rigid case with an audio cable and a USB type a to C charging cable. The headphones fold to fit inside the case making for a very small footprint for travel. The battery life is killer, and Iâve only had to charge it once for a short time in the past week with daily use. Sony advertises quick charging with 10 minutes providing 5 hours of playback and up to 50 hours of total use if you donât care about noise cancellation. I donât like the notifications I would get when the noise canceling would switch in and out of ambient sound. Some may find the capacitive touch a bit extra compared to physical buttons or a volume roller, not an issue for me. I would have liked a way to mute the microphone when on a call, but again, minor complaint. Also, I was not able to find an IPX rating so may want to take notice that it may not be sweat or water resistant if you listen while exercising.

The noise cancelling feature has settings that allow you to put it in a "hear-through" mode to allow conversations or just to hear ambient sounds. One interesting advanced feature is that you can set up a number of different âsound profilesâ using the app and associate them with specific locations (home, office, gym, etc.). Then, when you are in one of those locations, the app will automatically configure the headphones accordingly for that environment. The headphones are very comfortable to wear. I have a large head and have tried headphones that will simply not adjust far enough to fit me. These, however, fit well and felt really good. A negative is that, in order for noise cancellation to work, they have to seal well around the ears. As a result, they often felt a bit sweaty when I removed them. Maybe this is common to this style of headphone but itâs not enough for me to down-rate them.I have used them so far to listen to most every type of music that I like, which ranges from singer-songwriter artists to jazz, blues, oldies, and classical. I also listen to a lot of podcasts. Everything sounds great and I had almost forgotten how much better music sounds over a set of true headphones compared to the in-ear buds that I have mostly been using. These will now be my prime listening device in places where full-size headphones are appropriate.

The Sony ULT WEAR Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones provide great sound and fantastic bass, along with convenient controls and excellent noise canceling technology. I have tested out these new headphones, and following are my observations:- First and most important, the sound is incredible! The normal sound is very good, but using the ULT button allows you to increase the bass levels to two different settings, depending on your preference, and this really enhances the sound to the level of great. I tend to like a heavy bass and these headphones really deliver. I don't recall ever hearing such a deep, clear and heavy bass in a set of headphones before, and the bass never distorted, no matter how loud I cranked the music. I tested them out with a variety of music in a variety of genres, loud and soft, female and male singers, acoustic, instrumental, etc. The sound was simply incredible with everything I played.- I also love the equalizer options on the Sony Headphones Connect App that you download and connect to, as this really lets you enhance the sound for anything you listen to. There are 8 pre-set equalizer settings to choose from and three 5-band manual/custom options you can set however you want. The presets include Bright, Excited, Mellow, Relaxed, Vocal, Treble Boost, Bass Boost and Speech. Some of these perfect for various types of music, podcasts, and audio books, however, I personally enjoy playing with the manual/custom options. Between the equalizer settings and the bass boost options, you can really customize the sound to what you like for anything you listen to.- Set up was very easy. Basically, download the App, have the App find your new headphones via Bluetooth and it then it easily made the Bluetooth connection, after which you can start using them. You can also make the Bluetooth connection via your phone, without using the App, but the App has the equalizer and a lot of other features that make it worth using.- The Noise Cancellation features are very good. You can turn on Noise Cancellation, or turn it off, or switch to Ambient Sound. With Ambient Sound, you can adjust the level of outside ambient sound allowed via the App and it will filter out background noise and enhance the outside noise like voices if you want to be aware of sound around you. The Noise Cancellation and Ambient Sound features worked very well in a variety of areas I've tested them.- The headphones will operate using your phone's voice assistant or with Amazon Alexa. You can also operate all controls via the App. Finally, if you prefer not to use the App, all the necessary controls are located on the headphones also. The headphone controls included on the left are a power button, a noise cancellation/ambient sound button to toggle through those options, and an ULT button to toggle between the two different bass boost options or turn it off. On the right side, you can just swipe across the ear piece, up or down for volume, forward to skip ahead a track and backwards to skip back, or tap on it to pause and play and answer calls. The controls on the headset are all very well designed and intuitive to use without looking at them.- You can set up an account through the App that allows you activate Adaptive Sound Control. This feature will track your actions and how you set the ambient sound that is filtered in. After registering locations, it will automatically switch to the settings you like when using in different places, like home, work or the gym.- The battery life is also impressive on these headphones. They have a standard 30 hours of battery life, which is extended up to 50 hours if you don't use the noise cancelling feature. In addition, a simple 3 minute charge provides an extra 90 minutes of battery life and a 10 minute charge gives you up to 5 more hours of playtime.- They also have a multi-point connection feature so that you can pair them with two different Bluetooth devices at the same time. This is great, as I can listen to music on my personal phone, but if my work phone rings, I can answer it too.- The headphones come with a headphone cable for connecting in a plane, for example, a USB Type-C charging cord, and a great case. I really like the design of the case, as the headphones fold up so that it is a very small and thin circular case that is convenient for travelling.- While these headphones feel very solid and well-made, they are still very light and nicely padded on the headband and on the earpieces. I have worn them all day and found them to be very comfortable to wear.- The only possible con I can think to share is that the earpieces of these headphones stick out a little wider than some of the other headphones I've used. Perhaps that extra depth is what allows for all the extra bass you get. If so, I think it is well worth it.I'm really enjoying these Sony ULT WEAR Headphones and I highly recommend them!
Sony Wireless Noise Canceling Stereo HeadsetThe headphones are very comfortable to wear â had them on for a few hours at work with my glasses on and had absolutely no discomfort. My ears are on the large size but the ear cups fit nicely and the cushion formed well around my ears. I wore them in my car for a short trip to the store and had no problem hearing the traffic noise over the music playing. The noise canceling feature works well, I did notice a white noise sound when there was no audio playing. The headphones paired nicely with my Android phone (Galaxy S20 FE 5G Android version 13). At first the headphones were confusing on how to make them work but once I downloaded and launched the app (ULT WEAR) it was quite easy to follow the instructions. It took me step by step on how to pair the headphones with the phone. The way the software has you adjust the equalizer setting was very easy to use and also easy to reset in case you wanted to change the settings.I was using local radio station app to listen to music and if the headset volume was not set up near high I kept getting a text message on the phone to increase the volume â but the message was not clear as to what volume â the phone or the headset. I also noticed when I was driving away from my house as I got out of the blue-tooth range â the headset went silent for about 20 seconds before it reconnected to the station. My computer at work does not have blue tooth but I could use the audio cord and I was able to hear sound from the computer. I edited voice narration on the computer and the sound from the headphones matched the high end computer speakers I use.My tablet is a little older model (SM-T713 Android version 7.0) and the UTL WEAR app did not work with the headphones. I was able to use the headphones without the app and could hear the videos I tested clearly with good sound quality. Not sure how long the charge worked for the headphones as I used them at work for about 3 hours over 2 days and then they sat turned off for 3 days and the charge was down to 10%.It paired well with both my tablet and phone and I could easily switch between the two without any need to repair the headphones. Since I used an audio cable with it at work this did not interfere with the pairing of the headphones to my phone and tablet.Sony has a good reputation for quality headphones and this model meets those standards. The workmanship of all the parts is an extension of their design work in previous models. The buttons are easy to use while wearing the headset. The sound quality is outstanding and the equalizer adjustments make it easy to tailor the sound to your listening preference. It also has great noise canceling features that block out all unwanted sounds. Unlike some earlier models it comes with a very nice EVA case that is light-weight and protects the headphones. The unit may not be the smallest and lightest out there but they are a great set of headphones.
This the second Sony headphones I have and this really beats the sound from my old ones. Iâm amazed with the powerful Cristal sound quality using the ULT system, I really enjoy this feature on my headphones, just click on the side of the headphones ULT and you can get ultra bass sound on any song you love and with the great noise cancellation that this headphones provides, you can only hear your music and nothing else, I used this headphones while using my lawnmower on my yard and I definitely couldnât even hear the noise from the lawnmower, thatâs just great for me. This headphones includes a swivel designs that folds into the included case comes very handy and best suited for traveling or putting them in your gym bag. Other great feature that this headphones have is the battery life, very outstanding battery performance that could last up to 30 hrs, I used this headphones for at least 4/5 hours and it was still on 80% charge, very impressive. On the right side of the headphones you get touch sensor control panel that help you control the volume or play and pause your music with just a tap. The app has a lot of features that helps you set up your headphones the way you want to use them like analyze your ears for best quality sound, keep track of your music and battery life and also detects if youâre seat down or walking with the headphones, also you get free trial of 360 live app, which the 360 live app could use some more updates. The multipoint connection could use a little better upgrade but Iâm not really in need of this feature since I only use this headphones with my iPhone. Great headphones ! Recommended.
The first thing you will notice about these new Sony ULT headphones is how light and comfortable they are. They appear to be well made. My first impression of the sound of the headphones was not great as they were very bass heavy, and the midrange and highs were totally muted. There are no real instructions that came with them so it was necessary to visit the Sony site and review the online manual where you find how to use the headphones and the recommended app that is a must if you want these to perform as they should. The manual describes the features of the headphones that include connecting to Bluetooth, noise cancellation and use of the ULT button. Once I downloaded the app, I found all the features and EQ you need to get these headphones to sound good. There are several custom options that allow you to adjust the settings to your liking and then save them. You can also adjust the noise cancelling feature. I found the noise cancelling feature to work well. You also can use voice to control the headphones, however I do not use this feature as the feature is built into my phone. The headphones connected easily to my phone, laptop and TV. There are a number of other features in the app. My real concern is how do they sound. The marketing of these headphones is that they provide improved bass and using the app or ULT button allows you to control this feature. I listen to a lot of high-end audio and perhaps have developed a certain listening sound signature that I simply could not seem to find with these headphones. I found the extended bass to be overpowering most of the time and would probably never use the feature. I actually found myself turning down the bass in the EQ. Once these are EQâd to your taste they are very pleasant headphones to listen to. I am sure there are a lot of potential buyers who will find the extra bass a real bonus as past Sony headphones were sometimes lacking in this area for some people. This is a very competitive price point for headphones and there are a lot to choose from. If your listening tastes lean towards more bass heavy music, I think these would be perfect. However, if this is not your taste, I would recommend listening to these and using the app to decide if these are something you can live with. I think Sony did a good job with this product and I will continue to experiment with them to see how much better they can be.
Design & Build QualityThankfully, Sony hasnât tried to reinvent the wheel unnecessarily here. Theyâve taken the design aesthetic of the flagship XM5 and applied it here, with some changes to account for the bass-heavy drivers, to give the best listening experience for lower tones. The build quality is fantastic (as usual) and fortunately theyâve come right when my XM2âs band snapped. Iâve no doubt these will last just as long, if not longer, with robust build quality such as this. It has a simple to use button layout, which are easy to depress, even sporting a dedicated âULTâ button to switch between bass boost modes. It also has a USB C charging port, which means finding a charger should be easy!Sound QualityWell, these certainly donât lie: they promise a ... MoreDesign & Build QualityThankfully, Sony hasnât tried to reinvent the wheel unnecessarily here. Whilst thereâs no official word from Sony on what the âULTâ branding is supposed to mean, Iâd wager a guess it stands for âUltra Low Tonesâ because these headphones certainly deliver on this promise.Bass from a variety of genres is punchy, deep and crisp. Full volume is too much to stand, especially with the active noise cancellation (ANC) active; at least it is for me and, honestly unless youâre trying to go deaf, it should be for you too. But thereâs an (presumably) unintended side effect of that, you donât have to put the volume as high to get that feeling, meaning the drivers are drawing less power extending your battery life.I have a rare neurological condition, vibrations cause physical pain to me (including sound), but Iâve never had a pair of headphones which illicit the pain response - even at full volume⌠until now. If you put these on full volume with ULT on either âDeep Bassâ or âAttack Bassâ (1 or 2 clicks of the ULT button respectively) It literally triggers my nerve pain, so you know it is loud, clear and deep. That having been said, I am a big proponent of as rich a listening experience across genres as possible. Whilst these clearly favour bass, the highs are clear and warm, but lose a little bit of their expression; mids are a little muddied especially when listening to a track with a moderate amount of bass and a mid solo. Iâve listened to a wide range of genres, artists and performances with these to test their soundstage, clarity and general sound quality. So I want to point out to get such a good all-round listening experience and separation experience for a product designed to be bass heavy is really quite remarkable. For example when listening to Maria Callas singing Sempre Libera from La Traviata you can hear the expression of her upper notes with similar clarity to the XM2. But then when listening to Hip-Hop, such as Flo Ridaâs Whistle (which includes higher notes in the âwhistling motifâ) because the bass is favoured it is less expressive, but still delivered with excellent clarity.All-in-all, the sound quality is very good, close to excellent, but due to the slightly muddied mids, more compressed soundstage and loss of expression on highs when playing content outside its target genres, falls just shy of excellent for me.Please bear in mind, that your mileage may vary, if you predominantly listen to bass heavy music, these are 100% the headphones for you, you will never be disappointed by their ability to pump out great dance/techno/rave beats. A particular favourite of mine for this ballpark style is MEZIAH & Lee Butler: Tonight Belongs To U!ConclusionAs somebody with very eclectic music taste, I can tell you I will thoroughly enjoy listening to classical, rock, opera, country, trance and every other genre with these headphones. Are they perfect? No, but theyâre really very good!Battery life is very good. I took them out of the box and was able to listen to the playlist below completely and still have 7% of battery left. To be clear, they came charged in the box to 53%. They do come with a cable to connect via 3.5mm jack, should you need this and come with a soft-shell case.Testing InfoI used downloaded lossless tracks from Apple Music, to ensure as best a listening experience as possible. The playlist consisted of 123 songs across 22 different genres for total playtime of 7 hours and 32 minutes. Itâs unclear if using the ULT Wear paired with a Sony mobile using a Reality 360 partner such as Amazon Music using their proprietary HSEE format would improve the few niggle points I have regarding sound quality, as I donât have a Sony mobile with which to test.I did, however, sign-up for the Amazon 4 month free trial to experience Reality 360 and itâs really quite impressive. Though that was streaming only and not my primary music service.
One thing which you can always rely on, in my experience, is quality electronics from Sony. The Sony Ult Headphones are no exception. While Iâm by no means an audiophile, I know the difference between ânoisyâ headsets and clear ones. These headphones were clear, loud, and comfortable which is the checklist for a good set of wireless headphones. Bonus: these bluetooth headphones have a microphone so you can make and take phone calls, which is handy if youâre out on a run.In the box you have a black firm zipper case which holds the foldable headset, the charging cable, and a 3.5 audio hardline. Buttons are minimal: power, Noise Canceling/Ambient, and the ULT bass boost mode button. No volume or skipping track? No, the ear cups are touch sensitive so that you swipe left/right for volume and up/down for fast forward/backward/skip track forward/backward. Coolest of all though is that if you cup the headphone it automatically goes into passthrough mode so you can carry on a conversation/hear the announcements at the airport, etc. The battery life is extraordinary, the box lists them as lasting 30 hours and Iâve yet to charge them or have them die on me. These are going to be excellent travel headphones!I would fault them only due to the ULT bass boost, which thumped my brain into jelly. It's not required to use it but it's the main marketing feature so it bears stating its a bit much. Although Iâve never been one for extra bass, call me old but I like to hear my music not break apart the molecules in my head. If youâre one of those people that plays the bass in your car so loud it vibrates the mirrors of the cars a block away then youâre going to put these on a pedestal as your new favorite music accessory. As headphones go these are probably the best Iâve ever owned with a lot of neat bells and whistles to really set them apart from the competition. The big draw for some will be the HUGE bass found in the Ult button but to me the great sound quality with super long battery life is the reason to get these. No matter which side you fall on these arenât headphones youâll regret getting.
Having received the ULT Wear headphones, I found them extremely easy to configure. The "headphones" app (downloaded from the App store onto my Iphone XS) was easy to use, as well as providing access to setup of controls and graphic equalizer provided access to easily understandable tutorials which helped immensely in the learning process. The App also acts as as an interface between the headphones and up to two audio devices at any one time, which allows me to listen to podcasts and/or radio stations on my phone, but quickly switch to listen to music stored on my Sony Sony NW-A40 Series Walkman.Setup commences with "ear shape analysis" which purports to set up the phones to your ear shape - the ear cups totally surround the ear which is a very comfortable ... MoreHaving received the ULT Wear headphones, I found them extremely easy to configure. The microphones located on each earpiece (which also provide the sampling of ambient sound for noise cancelling) pick up my voice very clearly without the need for a microphone boom typical of a PC headset. In all the ULT Wear is one of the best headsets I've experienced in recent years, much more flexible than most competitors (in my opinion) and far more comfortable than the normal "in-ear buds" supplied by phone/mp3 player manufacturers. If asked, I would certainly recommend these to anyone looking for a comfortable, enjoyable, quality listening experience.
