I tested these earbuds in a noisier space in my home and I could really tell how much noise was actually blocked out. I was surprised at how much noise was being piped into the earbuds with the Ambient Sound feature turned on. I could hear my fan and AC running very loudly. I was glad to be able to adjust the ambient sound level because the default was too loud for my liking. My TV was on while I used Ambient Sound and it felt like I was plugged into the TV - that’s how powerful this feature is.I used the mobile app to adjust the ambient sound level as well as the earbud button commands. I liked being able to switch between Noise Canceling and Ambient Sound with the click of a button so I made sure that command was accessible on both earbuds. Sometimes I’ll wear just one earbud, and these Sony headphones allow you to use either earbud by itself. As far as Bluetooth goes, the earbuds remember the last device paired via Bluetooth, and it’s easy to pair to new devices as well. The 15-hour battery is great for me because I’ve used the earbuds for about 4 hours over the course of 5 days and don’t anticipate needing to recharge until next week. This package comes with a short charging cable as well as extra earbud sizes for a more personal touch.I’ve been a fan of Sony’s Ambient Sound feature since my first pair of over-the-ear headphones so I was excited to try it out with these wireless in-ear headphones. Overall, I am really happy with these Sony headphones and can recommend them as a great, high-quality product.

The downside, your connectivity is limited if you lose the case. However, as the case is required to charge the earbuds, perhaps that's not too big an issue.Sound quality is good, not the best but better than a lot of wired earbuds. It seems ear canal comfort has been improved as I was able to wear these for longer than a few hours. The sound quality is good enough to listen to music through work, my ride to the gym, then my workout. I appreciate the IPX rating and the texture was such that I didn't feel these were at risk of falling out of my ears doing my normal strength training. They feel like there would be resistance to coming out while running so would either be good or I'd have some advance warning. The noise canceling was ok, not at a level where it eliminates a nearby AC unit though it does lower the volume of the drone. In some transitions between songs, I did feel a bit of pressure as it seemed the noise cancelling ratcheted up in the absence of music playing. For my ride, having ambient noise mode was great and being able to activate it without having to go through the app, even better. And ambient isn't just turning off noise cancelling, instead you're still in noise cancelling mode, it just also pipes in some audio from your environment. The app does have a setting to help prioritize voices but I honestly couldn't tell much of a difference with that on or off. It would be nice if it had an automatic feature to switch to ambient or reduce volume if I start talking/The manual claims 15 hours of battery life. Like every other earbud I've had in the past couple years, that figure must be taken with a hearty dose of salt. For sure, you can achieve a solid 4 hours in noise cancelling/ambient mode. But I'm not seeing how they get to 15 hours. Maybe that's 15 hours that it's ON, but not actually being used for music or voice. Calls over the earbuds were decent. I didn't get any complaints from people on the other end. So, at the very least it's as good as other earbuds or the multi-mic noise cancelling on my cell phone.I liked being able to have the earbuds paired simultaneously to multiple devices. While I mostly use earbuds with my cell phone, for laptop/PC zoom calls, I sometimes will take those on my earbuds, especially if I need to move around. Being able to have the laptop connect immediately without needing to go through the pairing process is a time saver. Another little things worth mentioning, you can use either earbud in a single earbud mode. This sometimes comes up if I'm in a situation where I know I'll be taxing the earbud's battery life and so use one to increase runtime. In my short testing, I did notice that the battery seemed to run down more when outdoors versus at my desk. I'm not sure if it's because my phone is in a pocket versus siting on a table an generally in line of sight. In all, the WF-C700N is a surprisingly well featured set of Bluetooth earbuds. Are there some things that could be improved - yes. Do they need to be? No, these are pretty decent earbuds as-is.

The battery life is good, I don’t use them all day long, so I can’t speak to that, but using them for a couple of hours a day the charge easily lasts a week or more. They come with a Sony headphone control app. I’m really not a fan of proprietary apps to control headphones, but in this case, the app is definitely not necessary to use and enjoy the earbuds and it does have some useful features, like being able to change the button functions on the earbuds and customize the equalizer settings. The app also allowed me to update the firmware quickly and easily. I also really like that I was able to opt out of the data collection in the app. Overall, these Sony earbuds sound good and work great.

Great noise canceling earbuds but app didn’t work
15 August 2023

I got these Sony headphones about a week ago and have been testing them since then. I primarily got these since I had lost my previous workout headphones. I usually don’t get the earbuds since they tend to fall out when I workout, but thought I would give them a try.My previous headphones had an ear loop to ensure they stayed in place while working out. Despite these being earbuds, they stayed in place very well, though I did have to push them back in from time to time…usually after doing fast motions like jumping. The buds come with multiple silicone tip sizes so I tested out multiple sizes until I found one that was comfortable and stayed in place pretty well. What I was really impressed with for these earbuds was the noise canceling. The buds come with multiple silicone tip sizes so I tested out multiple sizes until I found one that was comfortable and stayed in place pretty well. What I was really impressed with for these earbuds was the noise canceling. I really wasn’t expecting them to work as well as it did. The first time I tried the earbuds was while watching tv in the background. I had forgotten about the active noise canceling (ANC) until I put them in and couldn’t hear the tv any longer. Wow! Best noise canceling headphones I’ve ever used. I usually use over the ear ANC whenever I fly (which is just about every week) and these worked better than those high dollar headphones. I tested them on my last flight and was really impressed. The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is that I could not get them to connect to the app (connected to phone without a problem). I tried multiple times, deleting then reloading the app, resetting the earbuds, restarting the phone, etc. I searched online for a solution and tried multiple ideas with nothing working. I kept getting an error that said “Cannot connect to YY2968. Check that the power of the device is on.” That was really the only downside to these headphones and they work fine without the app. These Sony earbuds exceeded my expectations for comfort, ANC, and staying in place for most workouts. I recommend these earbuds highly, especially if I can figure out how to get the app to connect to the buds.

Opening the eco-friendly packaging, no plastics, but recycled cardboard throughout, you get a minimalist design for these ear buds. A charging cord, instructions and a couple of different sized ear tips are all that are in the package. There is one multifunction button on each side and you do have to read the instructions and memorize the number of presses to control the ear buds. Initially, setting them up was a little bit of a challenge. Holding down the buttons looking for the bluetooth lights, I didn't get any, like you would when normally pairing bluetooth products.Instead, you need to download the Sony Headphones app, which makes pairing and controlling them so much easier. Once downloaded, you can pair the headphones fairly easily - I say this because it still took two attempts for them to be fully recognized. This is my reason for docking one star in the review, as the initial out of the box experience wasn't straightforward like other bluetooth products I've used/paired with - they weren't intuitive.HOWEVER - once paired, the experience gets exponentially better. You have complete control over how the ear buds sound. You are taken through a listening experience in the app, where you are given options of what you are listening to, to absolutely fine tune the listening experience. You don't just have a 3 stage equalizer (bass, mid, high), it's 5 stages, but guides you through, playing music, and offering deep preference options. I was really impressed with that.Pressing the buttons on the ear buds gives you control over the volume, track playing, play, pause, and also the active noise canceling. You can enhance the sounds around you, so that you can still be aware of your surroundings, or you can 'cancel' them out and become fully immersed in your music. And talking of that, the bass that these tiny ear buds puts out is stellar. Very impressed that something so small can produce this amount of bass. Very impressive. They also have the ability to adapt the noise canceling functionality on the go. So for example, if you are sitting at your desk, you can have the noise canceling active, but when you stand up and move around, it activates the heightened listening, so that you can still hear your music but be aware of your surroundings. Go back to your desk and they revert to full noise canceling again. Great feature you never knew you needed, but so valuable. And range while walking around, is so impressive! I have a 4000sqft house, my office is in the middle of the house. I was able to walk upstairs and downstairs without any loss of signal from my phone, where other headphones I use would have dropped signal. I was really impressed with the distance I could walk away from my phone, with solid connectivity at all times!Overall - apart from the pairing issue at the very beginning, and not knowing if they were powered on or not (no lights or indicators on the ear buds), they have been an incredible set of ear buds and will become my go-to set to use daily. And talking of that - you can pair to more than one product (up to two) with this. So you can have them connected to your computer AND your phone at the same time, and they will select between the two as you receive phone calls or as you work.I have no hesitation in recommending these ear buds. Great product!

Listen Up! Feature Packed Sony Wireless Earbuds!

The feature rich Sony WF-C700N Wireless Earbuds (truly wireless, noise canceling, Bluetooth) are a great companion for the active lifestyle.Whether it’s outside, inside the gym or mowing the lawn, I enjoy workouts in several places throughout the week. I always use earbuds for music to make the time go by faster while exercising (and protection from the lawn mower noise). This time, I was fortunate enough to use Sony’s new WF-C700N wireless earbuds. With just a Bluetooth connection and music streaming service on my smart phone to the Sony WF-C700N wireless ear buds, I am ready to go!The WF-C700N wireless earbuds come in a very small plastic case that will easily fit in your front pocket. It is a bit slippery trying to hold on to it while opening it. Once the case is opened you can easily remove the earbuds which are magnetically held in place. When it is time to put the earbuds back in the case the same magnets snap them correctly into place. A few other positives things about the case is the IPX4 rating, meaning it is splash/sweat proof (not waterproof). In total you get around 15 hours of playtime when using the case (7.5 hours) to recharge the earbuds within the case (7.5 hours). It takes about 1.5 hours to completely charge. Each earbud separately has its own charge that is used while listening (it is displayed in the Sony App). An USB Type A to a USB Type C connection, charges up the case. The cord is really short so charging has to be done close to the source of power. If the shortness of the cord is a negative, the charging of the case for 10 mins is a positive, which will give you 1 hour of playtime. The earbuds are comfortably ergonomically made with three sizes of removable buds to allow for your best fit (small, medium, large). The buttons on the earbuds are big and easy to press for all the different modes making a slight digital beep when turn on/off. This was a nice convenient surprise which made navigating the track, phone calls, noise canceling and pausing really pleasant. The WF-C700N wireless earbuds come equipped with Sony’s DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine). This process upgrades the music from any source from good to better and replicates the music the way the artist intends. You can actually get CD quality sound or really close to it.The WF-C700N wireless earbuds can connect to the Sony App for a major experience of informative fun. Use your smart phone’s camera on the QR Code after opening the box. The link will appear for you go to download Sony’s App in which you select the correct product you are intending to use. The App will help take pictures of your left ear then the right ear. Analysis of these pictures will help you get the best sound possible out of your earbuds according to your ears. The Sony App has an activity log/merit badge, time used with earbuds, an EQ, Ambient Noise Control, Adaptive Sound Control (actually saves and remembers your settings while automatically applying them to where you are!), any firmware updates and access to 360 Reality Audio Setup! The best feature, in my opinion is the 360-degree reality audio experience. The music sweeps around your head space with “24 adaptive object-based points in a soundstage” like an atmosphere. This creates an amazing experience when hooked up to a streaming music service that supports 360 Reality Audio: Tidal, Amazon Music Unlimited, Artist Connection, Nugs.net, PeerTracks. Now at the moment Spotify doesn’t have premium above 320kbps, but it still is enhanced with these WF-700N wireless earbuds (not using the 360 Reality Audio). While Stereo sound is great, eventually in my opinion, it will be replaced by 360 Reality Audio with more companies in the not-so-distant future. The sound, like a “live concert,” or just listening to the different points all around you is simply amazing! It is the best way to enjoy music. The highs are clear and precise while the mids are solid and strong. The bass is thumping but very accurate (20Hz-20kHz frequency range for earbuds). The Sony App will guide you through the steps to take for the streaming service and 360 Reality Audio Setup. (You will have to create at one account in the process.)Last but not least, the large mics are in the front of the earbuds that give you better clarity and realism with the Ambient Noise Control off even with the music on (also aids better hearing/speaking in phone calls!). You can also have two paired devices, like a smart phone or laptop that you can switch between without having to reset the Bluetooth every time.I really thoroughly enjoyed the Sony WF-C700N truly wireless noise canceling in-ear Bluetooth earbuds. The Active Noise Canceling worked really well as did the comfortable fit, Sony App and 360 Reality Audio.

Most Customizable Earbuds Ever!
6 August 2023

At first glance these look like good quality Sony Earbuds and they are. The case is slim and easy to carry, big enough not to be lost easily but rounded and comfortable to hold and pack. Out of the box these sound okay with LDAC (as long as you only connect to one device), AAC, and DSEE, but these are very customizable, and for that you need the app. The headphones app allows you to control all sorts of things, although you will need a create or log in to a Sony account to do most of the custom programming. The App shows battery level of both the left and the right earbud, and of the carrying case (updated only when earbuds are removed from it). The Ambient sound control (passthrough, active noise cancelling) can be controlled manually or setup to be controlled automatically by setting up Adapative Sound Control (Sony account sign in required). You can manually tweak the equalizer and save custom settings or use a guided "find your equalizer" sequence, which works very well, but is still labelled "BETA" at this time. You can prioritize the bluetooth connection for sound quality (a codec is auto selected) or for stable Bluetooth connection priority. You can connect to 2 devices at the same time, but the switch on reminds you that LDAC will not work in that mode. You can change the button function on both left and right earbuds, default is Ambient sound control for Left bud and Playback control for Right bud. You can also select an auto power off after Bluetooth is disconnected, shortest time is 15 minutes, which I use.I initially found the amount of options a bit overwhelming, but I just did one each listening session, and I quickly have most of them setup. These are my favorite earbuds, they sound pretty darn good, the equalizer really does change the sound around for various musics and speech. The status screen for the app is very good, shows The headphone state, and what is playing, it shows the media controls from most apps, with play/pause and forward/back and volume control all right there on the screen. These truly hit the sweet spot for price and performance.

Small with okay battery life
21 August 2023

In the box is the headphones, a charging case, a USB-A to USB-C power cord, instructional manual and extra silicone ear buds.First impression - The headphone case is tiny, like really REALLY small. (I own other Sony products and this is definitely the smallest product.)Design - The Sony WF-C700N (C7s) are a very portable, very sleek addition to Sony’s long list of headphones. Right out of the box the case is very small and light, as a woman with small hands it is even tiny in my palm. This is excellent for anyone with small pockets, but a bit worrisome as black cases this small tend to disappear inside large purses so be mindful.Comfort - The comfort is really nice, better than expected. I can wear them with my gamer headset over top of them and they are still comfortable. I have worn them to work and kept them in as long as there is battery life.Noise Cancelling - The C7s come with noise canceling, as well as a 360 reality audio feature. *The 360 audio feature is only for people that use Tidal, or another 3rd party app that supports Sony’s software. There is also a Headphone app that automatically requests to be downloaded on some smartphones.Sound - The overall sound is good, slightly higher than the bar one would expect from Sony. Clear and crisp, not to mention loud. Without the noise canceling, you can listen to someone talking right next to you which is convenient for if you want to keep them in your ears for a long period of time. With the noise canceling on, music about halfway volume is louder than even the wind rushing by if you’re driving a car with the windows down.Battery - The only and main downside of these headphones is the battery life; without the noise canceling it does last about seven and a half hours, but with it on they only last maybe five or six and with the case only having enough charge for one more full charge that’s ten-twelve hours of battery. Busy as I am, that normally means charging it on the way home from work if I haven’t had to charge them at work because they’d died already. I haven’t really paid attention to how long the case actually charges the headphones but I have put them in for 15-20 minutes and went from battery low to battery high. The case itself drains really fast and it will need to be recharged after you charge your headphones at least once. The app has a notification that tells you when the case battery is low and I felt like I got a notification often.Overall they are a nice pair of headphones, another nice addition from Sony as a whole and and great gift for a younger listener. I would give the headphones a 4 out of 5 (Cloud Nine, until they die)Would I recommend to friends and family? Sure, but I would make sure that they are aware of the battery life.

Superior sound and comfort
11 August 2023

The short version: these are really nice earbuds, for what seems to be a reasonable price. In comparison to cheaper buds, the sound quality, comfort factor, ANC, design, and personalization features/app adjustments of these earbuds are superior to bargain models and justify a greater price tag. At the same time, they are not as expensive as some models and offer a lot of features. On sale, I think these are a nice deal. The only real negative for me has to do with the charging case’s battery life being a bit behind the norm (which is not a major gripe for my use but may be for others) and the necessity of using the app to unlock some of the more helpful features.More detailed review:Fit and Feel: These earbuds are light, compact, and quite comfortable. Unlike my bargain ANC buds, they actually fit in my ears snugly and are relatively unobtrusive. The choice of earbud tips should help most users find the fit they like. When wearing these, I rarely have to adjust them, and they stand up even to sweaty conditions. I rarely had to tweak the fit during the several runs during which I’ve used them. By contrast, other buds I have used are much chunkier, and slide loose in my ears frequently--especially when sweaty--and have to be adjusted all the time. Once these SONYs are in place, they also don’t feel like much, so I can wear them without feeling desperate to remove them. They are easier to forget about than other buds I have used and very secure.Operation: These buds are easy to use, partly because they have actual physical buttons on both the left and right as controls. They are unobtrusive and yet much more reliable than touch sensors. I look forward to being able to use them even with gloves on. (That said, it is easy to accidentally press the buttons when putting earbuds in or out, or simply adjusting them.) There are a number of features to control with the buttons; probably too many—at least on the right ear. The left ear has fewer functions, but mostly toggles between ambient sound on or noise canceling on modes. An update through the app has also made volume control native on the buds now. This is vastly superior to not having it. There is also a handy listing of all the controls/commands available on both buds in the app. Some customization is also possible for the buttons. To start using the buds, it is necessary to download the “headphones connect” app that will walk individuals through the pairing process and settings. I find the reliance on the app a bit troublesome. It’s not that the app isn’t useful, but setting up the buds on any device seems to require the app. Setting up multi-point requires the app, for example. But, the multi-point does work well—mostly. I had trouble getting the multi-point to work with my pc, but, since it worked fine with my mac, tablet, and phone, I think the problem is the PC. It is really nice to have multi-point; I most frequently switch between a watch and phone for using buds, and that is made easy with the app and these earbuds. The app: the app has a lot of great features that highlight these earbuds’ capabilities. The app allows one to set the levels for the “ambient noise” feature of the headphones. This is the level of pass-through noise that the buds allow in order to keep wearers aware of what is happening around them. This is not just the buds without the noise canceling on; this feature actually feeds information about the surroundings back through the microphones in the buds. This feature is available on a lot of earbuds, but it works very well on these and the different levels of sound amplification (1-20) are helpful for selecting the right sound for a situation. I used the most pass-through noise when running, and I felt comfortable. I could hear cars, dogs barking, and people around me while still hearing music in my ears. The active noise canceling feature takes away all pass-through noise and isolates the listener. ANC is not perfect, and you can hear some noises with it on. However, this feature in particular works much better than my bargain buds’ ANC. I tested it in a variety of settings. I used it while flying, and it effectively nullified the drone of the engines and most of the voices around me. It made a flight where I was surrounded by cranky toddlers bearable—I could still hear some voices around me, but it greatly reduced the sound of the engines and talking. Used while at my desk, I cannot hear myself type and any voices in the same room are hard to hear, and at least, I did not hear them clearly. (I had to take the buds out to answer questions). I also noticed that while working at my desk it drowned out (almost completely) the howling and barking of my dogs. This was impressive. I could also effectively use the buds while playing the drums—they cannot silence the sounds of a drum kit, but they did dampen it enough that I could hear music to play along without destroying my hearing and keeping the volume in my ears in a medium range. So—some might not find this ANC acceptable; it does not totally undo all noise. But it’s pretty good. The app also allows the wearer to set adjust the sound with an equalizer, and it provides a pretty cool function for creating custom equalizer settings based on your own feedback.Overall, the sound is very good. I think the eq settings really let the individual adjust the feel, and I was quite happy with some of the presets available as well. The stereo functionality is really good—the isolation of the sound gives a strong feel for all levels as well as a sense of directionality. This makes the sound feel like it is surrounding the wearer, in my opinion. I can imagine that using these with the 360 Reality Audio feature would be incredible. For these functions, you need to be subscribed to a service, however, so I have not tried them. The sample program on the app was pretty amazing sounding. The buds also support DSEE, SONY’s upscaling programming, which improves sound on highly compressed files. This may sap battery life, though, so it may be something to use sparingly when the source calls for some TLC (like old MP3 files). The buds also have multi-point connection capability, which is a great feature. I believe this has only recently been added to these through an update via the software. It works well and makes transitioning between devices easy. This is quite welcome to me because I go back and forth often between using my phone and my watch for music, and without multipoint, this can get extremely glitchy. No problem with the SONYs though. In the end, I would not reach for the bargain buds over these. That said, these do start at over $100. For me, the superior fit and controls make them worth the price increase, though a sale would make them more irresistible.Downfalls:The app is used to set the adaptive sound features, and you can only switch between on and off via the buds alone, not adjust the levels easily or see what they are. Supposedly the buds can be set for different modes, like “staying” and “walking” etc., but I have not fully explored how easily these can be set and changed. I mostly either use them at fully noise canceling or fully ambient. There is a voice pass through feature that is supposed to allow voices to come through even with higher levels of ambient sound cancellation. I’ll admit I’m not sure how well this works.Battery: The charging case does not hold a ton of charge—only enough for one full charge. The way I use the earbuds this has not been much of an issue. I tend to use them for only an hour or two at a time. The buds themselves have been easily charged up by the case after use and never have shown themselves as anything less than full charge in the app. The case, however, has declined. But using this way, the case is at 30-50% charge after perhaps 10 days of on-and-off use. If you are going to use these for an entire day and drain them, and then want a quick charge and continuation, the lacking in the charging case might be a real annoyance. If you use the buds in a more limited way, it’s a minor issue.
