Speaking of which, sometimes you can see Zeiss pop microcontrast in the images, which is kind of nice. Eye focus and subject tracking work pretty much like a current model A7, i.e. are pretty good. The ability to see your photos in wide gamut color right on the phone is pretty darn snazzy. I am much more a still shooter than a videographer. However, I am impressed with the video quality. If you are a more serious videographer you will probably be impressed by the ability to record the camera's gyro information and stabilize a track in post-processing using Catalyst on a PC or Mac. I haven't tried the Android app for stabilization. I can't imagine it is terribly fast but hey, at least it's possible to edit in the field using only the phone. The phone is 5G which is good, I suppose, but there is no visible speed difference in the apps I use between 5G and 4G LTE (on T-Mobile in Portland, Oregon; your mileage may vary). I could go on, but you get the picture. Five stars for camera and display, two stars for everything else.

I have been a Samsung user for many years and thought I would try this Sony phone out this time around. I am a Sony Alpha Photographer, owning two of their Mirrorless cameras and an array of lenses. The video is good, the interface for the camera while advanced is something that looks similar to what Sony photographers are used to, but the camera is only 12 MP, so not great resolution, but acceptable for Social Media for sure. My problem was the phone, and I tried several things over the course of 8 days to try to get it to work better, but it just isn't good as a phone. It always drops my Bluetooth headphones, most of the time would not connect to the Bluetooth in my car, there was always static on calls both when I talk and when others would talk, enough that ... When you use manual mode and understand what the lens are capable of the photos at 85mm and 125mm can be amazing for mobile lens and sensor. 9. Pro video results are also best when using ND keeping shutting locked at 1/48. But if you don't use a good gimbal it's very hard to get good footage. (Too heavy for OSMO 6 with ND and any wind) 10. Front facing camera, no manual controls. 11. USB video monitoring is limited. The Good 1. Manual adjustments for video and photo are exceptional. 2. Phone speakers are good. 3. Manual photo mode at 85mm is great. 4.AutoISO, 1/48 shutter, digital level, great options. 5.HLG and other HDR options even in video along with H264 and H265 recording 6. Video Pro mode allows streaming directly to YT etc. But longer stream are gonna overheat phone and kill battery fast. Bottom line, disappointed.
Very fast phone, no bloatware, stock android even more stock than a pixel phone imo, no gimmicks, beautiful 4k screen thats flat not curved its also very bright. The speakers are very clear(cirrus logic speaker amps) not tin can sounding like iphones or galaxy. the only compromise is the price, you get headphone jack, micro sd, notification led, 2 stage camera shutter button, fingerprint scanner on power button, no NOTCH. Haptic vibration feedback is spot on ,Its the most premium feeling xperia yet. The only time mine got hot was when i setting it up the first day, after its been smooth and cool. If this phones to pricey you can the smaller brother xperia 5 iv for a much more affordable price. Definitely much improved over thr xperia 1 ii which i adored.

Amazing OLED screen with 4K resolution (120hz, 21:9 wide display) makes this phone really standing out and it’s a pleasure to use it (I truly enjoy watching the movies on this screen). Screen brightness is unlike anything I seen on any device before, and it rocks while used outside in daylight/sunlight. Clean Android software is another positive thing and all preinstalled apps will be pretty much used, no junk in there. Triple lens camera, each in 12PM are designed that each of them has certain “zoom” by the default while last one of them has optical zoom. Camera with optical zoom is where I am having split mind, yes it’s great but you will not get much use from it without tripod unless you have a crazy steady hands, and I don’t. Pictures and videos are different from any other devices I used, with colors being more realistic, at least in 90% of the pictures/videos taken. Plenty of storage, 512GB with possible extension which I will mention later. Phone response is amazing, it runs crazy fast with no lags whatsoever regardless how many apps do you have opened, thanks to 12GB RAM. Two front facing speakers will give you amazing experience while watching videos or listening music. Micro SD card support up to 1TB expendable storage beats anyone else on the market and it does have good old regular headphone jack. Phone is both dust and water resistant which I believe Sony is leader in making those. Fingerprint reader on power button works surprisingly, impressive without any errors or failures. All of this with great battery life which charges pretty fast, even with 20W USB type C charger from Insignia I am using. Phone is very light at least for me since I had used Apple phones for years. Bad things for me at least are, for one devices does not come with power brick or power cord either. Phone does periodically get hot, especially while shooting a larger 4K videos, and once that happens it will start closing the applications. Other huge thing is the quality of voice calls. I am getting lots of complaints from people at other side of the line about voice quality, and it gets even worse if I use it on speakerphone. Video calls are lagging video feed (tested on snapchat and viber) compared to my other phones, even when connected to WiFi. Hopefully future software updates will resolve quality of voice calls because this is a huge deal since this a primary a phone, and just for reference I am using T-Mobile 5G network. I like the photo and video features and options, they are great and phone is rich with them, but I don’t like the fact that I have to use 3 different applications in order to use everything that this camera offers. Android OS used be very customizable system and I am surprised that in this case I cannot even change the font type, so not cool. Light sensor does not work as it should, I had few cases when I kept phone at my ear, screen light was coming on and off and I accidentally pressed screen with my ear and changed few setting – once even enabled airplane mode and got disconnected. Again may be something software update can fix it but at this moment is not as it should be. SIM tray cover seems to be wiggly after just one pulling out and one side of cover is sticking out of line little bit, which kind of bothers me but I did get a protective case which covers that. The audio offers several different customization options like Dolby Surround, 360 reality and DSEE Ultimate, which upscales compressed audio. That's all good and well, but this phone maximum output is about 60% of other phones I have tried. The audio is just low output and I see no way to change that. So if you were to have been using say a Bluetooth speaker on a different Android and switch to this, chances are the volume output of the Xperia 1 IX will be MUCH lower. For me, someone who listens to a lot of Bluetooth audio, this is a HUGE negative. No excuse for that. Now the phone does have some pluses. The phone camera is outstanding and offers many customization options for video and photos. Games play without any significant issues and the screen is very nice.....but not durable. I found this the hard way and already have a cracked screen. Buy the thickest and most shock resistant screen protector/case you can find for this fragile phone. So in the end, this premium priced phone has some impressive photo/video and processor options you would expect. It's the little things that this phone gets wrong, so wrong. For me this is a really bad fit and not a phone I would recommend.
This phone is good. Having an SD card slot alongside a headphone jack on a flagship phone is very rare these days. This phone has that, which is amazing. This is also my first time using a high refresh rate display (>60hz), and I think it’s an amazing experience. Having apps that take advantage of this refresh rate is a real treat. Pokémon Go does this to great affect, for example. I have had an amazing experience with this phone thus far. I do have to mention the battery life though, it leaves room for improvement. It doesn’t impact me that much, considering I always carry around a battery bank anyways, but it is very noticeable and needs to be noted.
Upgraded and so far so good.. Now to be fair I came from a phone I've had for about 5 years so the upgrade was more than usual for me compared to others who upgrade regularly. Once I had it unboxed and inspected I checked online about how to easily transfer my phone data (Contacts etc.,,) to this phone. It "seemed" to good to be true but I followed the instructions, which were nothing more than to hook up a USB-C cable to my new phone and old phone and use a transfer app/program. Within minutes I was all transferred. Once I got it all fired up and running the very first thing that was very apparent was the heat. Yes this phone does get warm. At least compared to my previous phone which wasn't nearly this warm after a few minutes. Time will tell if that becomes an ... MoreUpgraded and so far so good.. Time will tell if that becomes an issue but seeing how I'm a few generations apart from this phone to my previous phone I don't know how normal this is. It will take a while to get used to all the upgrades in this phone but so far the quality of the phone, calls, audio, screen clarity and camera all blow my previous phone away by far. I'm not a photo guy but man the pictures this phone takes are , well...great. I was a tad disappointed no charger or ear plugs came with it but it is what it is. Normally I dock for that but with how this phone as performed so far... I can live with it.
