This camera is overall amazing. 4K60 (4K120 coming soon) and many other features of the FX3 in a body that's barely over $2000. However, don't try to make this camera something it isn't. Overall, I'm very happy with this camera, and if you're a content creator or someone who records shorter clips like B-Roll or highlights, this would be a great addition to your camera lineup.

I wrote a review a few days ago that there aren't any heat issues. Finally had one. I was 30 mins into filming 3 mins clips at 4k 30fps 10 bit and it overheated and shut down.I waited a minute and it was all good and asked if I wanted it used "higher temps" before thermal shutdown. Ok. Dunno if that will help.I still think, even with that, it's a phenomenal camera. I'm not a pro and just watching some how to's, the results are world class.As I mentioned. If it's in the budget, this is a really great camera to learn and produce amazing content.

I am sorry I had to return this camera because of overheating issues which made the camera unusable. This vlog-focused camera perfectly suits my needs. Perfect use for basic vlogging while having the features/specs to do more. It’s AI autofocus and Cinevlog feature made it a breeze to capture awesome looking videos. I don’t recommend this camera if you plan to do more than basic vlogging. Even though it offers features of higher end Sony cameras, extensive use would more than likely cause it to overheat. I would recommend to do extensive research before choosing this camera.

Well, i got the camera, charged it, got everything setup and ready. Then i took it to a shoot, where it promptly overheated in just over 10 minutes, then shut down, and would not turn on for another 30. The shoot was in a 69 degree controlled environment and not even sunlight. So i figure its just a defective unit, maybe the heat sink paste was misapplied. Then i googled the issue and found tons of reports on the same issue and the cameras only been released a couple weeks. The AI auto focus is amazing and supper sticky, the video quality and colors are fantastic and it's incredibly easy to use. Just that darn over heating kills it for me. I tested it in 4k60, highest bitrate, highest heat setting, in direct sun and it was only 74 degrees that day here in Los Angeles and it only lasted 9 minutes before it shut off. When I initially opened the box and started adjusting the setting on and off just messing around it showed a heat warning after 2 hours, I didn't even record anything. At that time I had not yet put the heat sensitivity on high but that was definitely a precursor to the outdoor test. It's worth noting how this camera is meant to be used: this is my b-cam to my FX3. I have already taken this camera on several trip and family outings and have never had it overheat. I shoot short intervals of 24fps. This is not meant to be a studio or wedding camera--although I'm sure you could rig it up so you could. I believe the camera got overhyped and tbe rebound of that was a lot of unwarranted hate (from people who don't own this camera). I love it and am thankful to have it. I did try 60fps 10-bit but the file sizes are insane. That stopped soon after I realized I'd need a bigger hard drive to store All of that mess... Using this camera for "real projects" vs a stress test - it's awesome.I've also played with sLog and that looks fun. Someday. But, it's there as I learn. And meanwhile, this shoots amazing crisp autofocus shots with beautiful blurred backgrounds with handheld dynamic stabilization.This also has the latest, cool "stuff" and it's full frame. Do it. With a good lens. Highly recommend the Sony 20mm f1.8 as the first lens for it.
I was on the fence of ordering this thing, so glad I did. My client had a big company meeting, I ordered this in hopes that it would arrive on-time. It did. The portability and epic low light shooting was a game changer for collecting b-roll at the event. I actually really like the kit lens, but I was also using a wide lens that I use on my other Sony. The stability is really great, it does crop when using the stability, but the quality is still there.Other notes: I didn't have time to mess with shooting in SLog3. I just threw it in auto and went to town.
Ok so I'm coming from the A7s3 and the biggest improvement that I'm LOVING is the autofocus. It does not miss! Even when I'm on a final and I'm orbiting around a subject it can detect the shape of a human body. It's incredibly accurate and relatable. I love the white color. I get compliments everyday on it. Also just the smaller weight makes it a breeze I. The gimbal!I've personally run into ZERO overheating issues so I don't know what the buzz is. Also the onboard mic sounds great for fun run and gun content. Honestly a great camera. No regrets!
