Bulky, heavy, stiff. Difficult to get the tongue of the boot to sit flush.

Ultimately I ended up returning these. The boot is bulky, heavy and stiff. It is difficult to get the tongue to sit flush . I never got the tongue on the right shoe to not bunch up and put pressure on the shin. This looks like quality leather and build; however the boot is really stiff and heavy. I like the looks of the boot and I am sure they are warm, but I could not wear these for an extended time. I wore them around the house a couple of times to give them a fair shot and really wanted to keep them, but they are just a really uncomfortable shoe and I ended up returning them. I was surprised given all the rave reviews and recommendations of this boot that can be found on the internet. I also ordered a size 7 as I could not find my normal size of 6.5 and the fit ... MoreUltimately I ended up returning these. The boot is bulky, heavy and stiff. Should have felt large, but even with thin socks felt narrow. Lengthwise despite being a larger size felt like it was the right size, so my guess is these run really small. I love Sorel, but this is my second failure trying to find a good winter boot from Sorel. The last boot I sized up 1.5 sizes to get it to fit my foot, but by doing so, there was a huge gap in the ankle.

These boots are great so far! They are very warm and comfortable. I haven't had a chance to test them out in heavy snowfall just yet, but they hold up well in below zero temperatures. Definitely follow the suggestion to size down. I am typically a 9 to 9.5 depending on the type of shoe. I ordered an 8 in these boots and they fit perfectly!! They definitely start out a little stiff and it can be hard to get your foot in and out for the first little while, but after I wore them a few times it was much easier!

And because that's what the locals wore in that mountain town in below-zero temps. At 40 below, I breathed through a wool scarf to filter the cold as I walked to work a short quarter-mile downhill, glad my feet were warm (ya cannot start a truck in that cold--oil is too thick). The second pair got me through snows in Nevada in the shadow of the Carson and Sierra Nevada mountains near ... MoreI love SOREL Caribou boots. And through city storms and country miles in Southern Utah and then three winters in a tiny town called Santaquin where I freelance edited online for ad agencies and scattered birdseed for wild birds after packing down snow underneath the feeders. And now it's time for the fourth pair. Wonder what I will do in this new decade, in my new boots with their clean new inserts, with new dreams. One thing I know. My feet will be warm and dry.

Poor quality - liner was not sewn into the boot
25 January 2024

I am a huge fan of Sorel and love all of my different Sorel boots but was very disappointed in my first pair of the Caribou Boot. I couldn't get my foot inside the boot without bunching up the liner inside (I ordered my true size, a size 10). Once I finally got my foot in, I pulled it out and the liner came out too! I checked the other boot and the liner was also not attached or sewn into the boot in any way. Very disappointed in the quality of this particular boot. I am also annoyed that I had to pay $12 for shipping for a $200 pair of boots. Most merchants offer free shipping for that price point. And now I have to pay another $6 to send them back? Ridiculous.

Runs way big

These boots are humongous. I thought there had been a mistake and I was sent men’s boots, because they’re are women’s 8.5 yet almost the same size as my husband’s size 9 military issue boots. The inside says women’s 8.5 and so does the box. Returns are not free even though they are not using any sort of reasonable sizing. What kind of socks do you think people are going to wear that will make these fit?!

So disappointed
30 January 2019

I have endured many Canadian winters without properly insulated winter boots, so I finally decided to purchase a real pair of boots designed for Canadian winters. I thought that since my parents constantly go on about their love for sorrel boots (the ones designed YEARS ago), I would purchase my own pair. I saw the caribou boots and fell in love, and could not WAIT to receive them. They came in the mail in December, where I got to break them in. I must mention that during this time, temperates never reached anything below -10, so I although I got to break them in, I wasn’t able to feel the quality of them. So the cold weather rolls around and I’m super excited to wear my new boots! I walk around outside and expect to feel nothing but warm feet, since I’ve worn UGGS ... MoreI have endured many Canadian winters without properly insulated winter boots, so I finally decided to purchase a real pair of boots designed for Canadian winters. So the cold weather rolls around and I’m super excited to wear my new boots! I walk around outside and expect to feel nothing but warm feet, since I’ve worn UGGS as my main winter boot for years. But I was nothing but disappointed, and quite frankly, upset about it. Wearing warm wool socks each time I’ve worn these boots, my toes have been absolutely numb. I’ve read multiple reviews which claim that the rubbber sole on the shoe is no longer created with the same durable material used to produce sorrels from years ago...and that could not be more true. I would not recommend these boots to anyone, especially at this price. Sorrel advertises that your feet will stay warm up to temperatures of -40. I have not been out in those temperatures but I have been out in temperatures closer to -10 and -20, and every single time I feel so disappointed as my toes literally become numb and freeze. With the heat on in my car, my toes are frozen..it’s almost like my feet become colder in these boots. These boots are not worth your money, not after they have changed the quality of them. I expected to have warm feet this winter, now I am out 250.00, all to have to purchase another pair of boots that will actually keep my feet warm. So disappointed sorrel, will never purchase from you again.

Sorel Caribou Boots
3 March 2024

This is the second pair of Sorel Caribou Boots I have purchased. The first one was in 1983. They lasted over 40 years! They moved with me from Montana to Colorado, to South Africa, to Wisconsin, to Texas and back to Colorado. Talk about quality, endurance, warmth, comfort and performance. I'll never have to buy another pair... if these last 40 years ... unless I live to be 100. Excellent product! Well done Sorel.

Too difficult to put on
7 December 2022

I bought the Caribou in gray about 9 years ago and only have worn them maybe 10 times. I live in Minnesota, so I thought these would be great to wear during the winter. The reason I don’t use them as often as I would love to, is because they are too dang difficult to get on and off my feet. The felt liner is snug, yes I understand that, but the problem is the actual boot itself. The opening is too small and the material is too stiff. It almost feels as if I might break my ankles trying to get the boots onto my feet. Once I do, they are heavy and clunky, which is great for slushy ice walks. But if you plan to be driving or doing a lot of walking, maybe try something else. I really wished these would have worked out in my favor, but I’ll be searching for something ... MoreI bought the Caribou in gray about 9 years ago and only have worn them maybe 10 times. Wanted to keep
1 March 2023

Gorgeous wonderful boots, I ordered the black both times and so wanted to keep them. I wanted to update my Sorel Manitou boots from over 30 years ago as they were getting a bit snug, still in good shape though. The footbed in the Caribou's wasn't wide enough in the 10's or the 11's. I have narrow skinny feet and ankles, however I have a bunion on my right foot. With thick mens socks on, the width of my right forefoot is 9 1/2 around and 8 1/2 around on the left foot. Even with a thin sock my right foot hurt. I checked the liners and compared to my old women's size 8's to these new liners, the Caribou's were a bit thinner, narrower in width and only scarcely longer. The only issue was the width in the footbed for me, I usually wear 9.5 regular width tennis shoes, but ... MoreGorgeous wonderful boots, I ordered the black both times and so wanted to keep them. Warm and supportive

So I bought the Sorel Caribou snow boots after reviewing all of the reviews, positive and negative. I've read reviews where they said these are heavy. Yes, a little heavier than an UGG boot. However, I took about two hours reviewing The North Face, Columbia Sportswear, UGG, LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, no name brands, and other lightweight Sorel winter boots. Seems there was at least 1-5 reviews in all of the above snow boots that suggested water seeped in for some. That's 1 too many. I would rather have a little heavier of a boot with a secure waterproof sole than have water seep in to freeze my toes, or have a thin rubber sole that cracks. I did not notice driving being a problem, nor did my foot press on both gas and brakes at the same time. I feel these will handle walking in any ice or snow without my feet being cold, water seeping in or rubber cracking. This particular boot said it can run a little large; I wear a 6.5 so ordered a 6.5 and it was perfect for me. I put on a thick sock on and it fit amazing without being snug. So take your chances on wet toes or cracked rubber soles on other lighter weight snow boots, but my vote is for feeling absolutely safe without a shadow of a doubt that these will work in rain, snow and ice.
