After struggling with loading/unloading and setting up an analog mixer, outboard EQ rack and 30m 4 x 12 snake, I decided to go digital. The desk I wanted was not available anywhere and the ETA was impossible. So I looked at alternatives. Got to use an X32 at a gig, and pretty much hated it. Checked out other alternatives and decided on the Soundcraft Ui24r. Before purchasing, I had played around with the demo UI on their website and found it way more intuitive than other brands. So I made the purchase. I love the variety of connection methods available with this mixer. I did get an external wifi router as recommended by many. But I can also direct connect via ethernet if the wifi gets dodgy. But I can also connect via HDMI and mouse/keyboard in worst-case scenarios. ... MoreAfter struggling with loading/unloading and setting up an analog mixer, outboard EQ rack and 30m 4 x 12 snake, I decided to go digital. Describing all the amazing features in this review would be impractical, as I could fill pages with it. Suffice it to say that this unit continues to impress me as I explore its capabilities and functions. Amazing gear

First of all, thank you for getting it to me in a timely manner. It was in its original box had everything that was needed and looked brand new. Luckily, I had done a lot of reading, investigating of this machine before I purchased it. It is not something that you can get on one day and take out and use immediately. You definitely need to spend some time on it to understand whats needed to make it work. I would also advise having a sound person run it, if you are in a band because there are things that happened and if youre playing a guitar solo you cannot easily step over and tweak the machine. Yes, it allows you to utilize iPads and every member of the band is able to have their own mix up to 10 iPads but I think the implementation would require practice. I am thinking that we will be practicing and performing many times with this before we actually have a really good mix but that is the nature of the beast and making changes, especially with new technology is what you have to do. I love the design and implementation utilizing the web design is a great idea. Just remember that it is not the Internet, it is its own website, so you are not able to connect to the World Wide Web. You are on only a part of it. The part that is connected to the actual board. I would suggest using another physical router because at recent gigs without a freestanding router it dropped out four or five times but when I connected it with the router it has been almost perfect all night long. It is a great idea but I do always carry an analog mixer with me to all of my gigs still, just in case

Out of the box the installation was simple enough. When we first used it at our church we loved it. Removed the need for a snake from our old system and this sitting on stage and you being able to control it anywhere was amazing. A week in and we encounter the first "disconnection" on it so we bought a router for it. Set up again was not difficult and it's just a one time set up.It's served it's purpose well but I can't help to feel disappointed after 3 years. The first symptoms were connection loss to usb stick.Sometimes it wouldn't recognize the usb... another symptom, it would RESET all of our settings out of the blue for no reason. We'd come one day, turn it on, to find all of our mix settings rested. We'd have to manually load them. After couple of weeks this ... MoreOut of the box the installation was simple enough. Now whatever settings we'd try to save, they just wouldn't stay in the mixers memory. Whatever scene we had PRIOR to this issue would still be there, but anything NEW we'd try to save into it just would not save. Not to mention the usb ports used to UPGRADE or DOWNGRADE firmware do not work anymore, so if it's a software issue, I have no way of RESETTING to factory firmware on it since the usb ports don't work anymore.Sadly no warranty past 3 years and gc coverage was only 2 years so now we are left with a piece of gear sitting in a shop somewhere waiting to be fixed while we have to use a secondary small mixer to serve our needs while the unit gets fixed. Have not had a word on the shop of HOW MUCH it will cost... but our studiolive we had served us for so many years and still kicking at a secondary room at church.. it breaks my heart a lil because it's soundcraft. I was expecting a lot more quality on the product. If you want a mixer that will last a long time, I'd look at a different brand and try your luck there. As far as this one goes, though it didn't give us much issues at first, it's a nightmare to live with once this "memory" issue kicks in.

Overall:I was very apprehensive about a digital mixer but after all the research I finally decided to get the Ui24R. At first it is a little scary due to the fact that there is no console with physical buttons. I use a combo of a 23inch touch screen monitor, Ipad and a macbook pro hooked up directly up to the mixer via ethernet cord. It works perfectly very happy with this purchase.
Overall:So I obsessed over which rackmount digital mixer to get for about 6 months. I really liked the mackie dl32r, but there's not PC support yet and that's quite a price jump, though I would have done it with some better effects, feedback suppression current PC support, and the newer dl32s does have PC support and a nice GUI but nothing outstanding for effects, and the pres seem to get mixed reviews. A&H, ipad only. The soundcraft has great warm sounding Studer pres, 20 xlr's, the effects are by reputable companies, and the feedback suppression is a great option no one else seems to have. The multitrack recording feature is great. I'm still torn on the browser based GUI, but it seems to be stable, just a different take than that others, I suppose. All in all, it just seems to have a great balance between the others in the same price range and a little higher. If they came out with a 32 or even a 48 version, I'd be in! One complaint, there are screw holes and a vent on the back for a fan, but there's no fan installed in there, so that is a bit questionable. Might just add one myself. I feel it will also be a great option for implementing IEM's where each person can control their own mix, if I ever get involved with my own live band again.
Overall:This is quite an upgrade from the Behringer X air I've been using for years. There's nothing wrong with the xair board. I just wanted to upgrade and have a backup. My Behringer board is about 6 or 7 years old now. We all know that behringer makes some decent stuff but they aren't exactly known for their long term reliability. Enter the Soundcraft ui24r. This thing does nearly everything the behringer does plus it has some features the behringer doesn't. Like on board multitrack recording and soundcheck mode. Soundcheck mode alone is worth the price difference. The preamps in the ui24r make the xair seem muddy and lifeless. Usb routing can get a little confusing in the ui24r but not so bad that it's frustrating to use. YouTube is your friend. Really good sound as a mixing desk, seems well built. The feedback suppression has revolutionised band rehearsals but it did take me some time to discover it and work out how to know when it was turned on. The annoying bits are interaction with other digital equipment. After reading the 121 page manual I cannot get it to interact with a DAW directly without needing a USB stick, and I'm going to have to look up how to use patching to get the left and right line in input to work. I haven't tried multitrack recording yet- I hope it works. The web based interaction is a bit clunky and it's taken a few goes to work out how to save things correctly- like all software it takes some time to get used to.
Quite simply the best rack mountable digital mixer available!I have mounted it in a shallow 8U case, and added an external 5Ghz wifi router - even though the internal dual band router works just fine.Pre amps sound rich and warm on all channels, the ability to multi track record 20 input channels in either WAV or FLAC format direct to USB 3.0 stick is simply brilliant, but it doesn't stop there...You can also connect the UI24 to a PC or MAC and stream all the channels to your DAW and then... stream them back from the DAW into the UI24!You can even mix your multi tracks down to a stereo WAV and save it to the USB stick. The gates, compressors, EQ and FX are all excellentToo many great features to list, if you have a working band get one!
I have had the UI24r about a year and a half. During that time I've only used it in the studio. I wouldn't hesitate to use it live (or maybe I would, read on) but the pandemic has put my live music activities on hold. This unit has some amazing features: 24 inputs, 10 aux sends. Each channel has a complete channel strip, which in this case, since it's digital, means full eq (several kinds), effects, patching, 10 aux and 2 main sends. You have 32 channels of recording interface. The versatility and feature set of this unit is unmatched by any physical console I've used, analog or digital, especially for the price. The interface is both awesome and problematic. The versatility and feature set of this unit is unmatched by any physical console I've used, analog or digital, especially for the price. The interface is both awesome and problematic. They've clearly put a lot of thought and work into the design, and most of the features are available in a straightforward and predictable fashion. Any confusion with the operation of the interface usually has to do with not understanding the feature you're trying to control. For instance, there are several patching sections on each channel that act like a physical patch bay to route signals. The UI handles it in a logical way, but it's struggle to completely understand what's going on when you have to constantly switch screens. If you're old like me and you've been using analog consoles your entire career, this represents a significant learning curve. You will have to learn some computer and networking concepts in order to use this. There are definitely bugs in the interface software. It will freeze or the display will become corrupted. Sometimes it slows to a crawl. The main problem is that there are several ways to access the control interface from a phone, tablet, or computer, and every single one of them is unreliable and intrusive. For that reason alone, I would hesitate to rely on this unit in a professional setting until you are certain you have consistently conquered all the quirks. After working with it for a year and a half and I am not to that point yet.
