This shovel is ideal for digging trenches, drains and narrow tasks. The combination of the heavy duty carbon steel head and hard wearing timber handle make this the ideal choice for gardeners and trade users.

Purchased this to install lawn irrigation. Worked like a dream and now i'm regretting giving it my father as i need to do my new yard! For digging a trench to run irrigation piping i couldn't recommend highly enough.

I have had to dig many holes in ground containing small stones. My regular shovel struggled but the new narrow ,heavy blade cut through easily. It is also well balanced for the job

Good quality, nice balanced, as you would expect from S & J. Does the job exactly as expected
Seems OK, solid looking thick handle, but back of the pan flares out to ~110mm, making it very hard to use in a 100mm. Trench I used a Red Roo 90mmx600mm trencher, and the shovel jams. There are some 600mmx100mm trenchers, but not at my hire shop. Rating is down because of the width problem, I couldn't really give it a good test. It does have a better square shoulder for pressing your foot on unlike some others
Really good trenching shovel unlike the more expensive ones that are angled too much and so you lose a lot of power in the dig. This one is near straight and so you don't lose power. Dug over 20m of trenching and didn't regret. Take care with the handle and don't bend too much as its basic wood and not heavy duty.
This was perfect for trenching my home lawn irrigation system, but have also found it useful all the time. In fact i prefer to dig with this shovel now over a normal one because it digs into the soil easier then trying to push down a full size shovel blade. used for post holes, digging holes for plants, digging up turf. has been strong and sturdy so far.
i puchrased this to clear a trench that a ditch witch had dug out for me.the trench was already dug, i was just clearing loose soil, making sure the trench was at least 600mm deep, so i painted the shovel at the 600mm mark with paint, then started clearing.on the 15th (or there abouts) shovel load, the handle snapped.it appears to me make of cheap particle pine.i didnt even have time to wear the sticker off or for the paint to dry and it broke.
Pity it didn't come with some elbow grease, saved a lot of digging
I bought it about a month ago and I'm happy I did. It's been great for digging a trench underneath a rock and down the garden for putting in a conduit pipe. It has a pleasant finish on the handle.
