Specialized 2022 Creo SL E5 Comp

Featuring Specialized's Premium E5 aluminium frame, the Turbo Creo SL electric road bike delivers a comfortable and confidence-inspiring ride. Super light weight without sacrificing any stiffness, the motor and battery weigh in at just 3.7kg. What's more, the Creo is equipped with a range extender, to ensure that you don't have to worry if you are running low on a long distance ride, especially given that the additional battery weighs in at just 1kg and fits into most standard bottle cages. Providing a natural riding feel and impressive handling, the Creo has a low centre of gravity for additional stability. Furthermore, the Future Shock tech that has been integrated into this particular model delivers 20mm of travel at the stem, giving you a smooth ride without sacrificing on speed or comfort. To top it all off Specialised have equipped the Creo with a Turbo Connect Unit (TCU) to provide system communication, error messages and battery level stats for both the internal battery and range extender. This TCU is fully compatible with Specialized’s Mission control app which allows you to fine tune your support modes, plan and record your rides as well as diagnose problems with your bike.

5000 mile update

I have had the Turbo Creo SL EB 5 Comp for about 8 months and have 5000 mikes of great riding. I’m 72 years old and ride 60- 72 miles regularly. My longest ride has been 75 miles with 2500 feet of climbing. My longest climbing ride was 65 miles with 3700 feet of climbing. I have not ran out of battery yet. I have been riding with 18 to 19.5 mph average speed on all my rides. I keep up with 40 year olds. I still get sn excellent work out and have lost close to 15 pounds riding this bike. I am planning on a Century ride in the next month and with Mission Control I have complete confidence that I will have battery to spare. I highly recommend this bike. The Specialized tag line of “You only Faster” is completely true.

Picked up the bike yesterday. Dealer was excellent in setting up the bike with the specs from my previous bike fit.My first ride was today. Took it out for a nice test run. 46 miles and 800 feet of climbing with a 4-5 mph headwind returning. It only used 43% battery, I have the range extender on it. My avg speed was 18.5mph and top speed was 30.5. It was a fun ride. I mainly stayed in Eco mode with about 5 miles of Sprt mode and 1/2 mile of Turbo. At one point going into the wind for about 3 miles I was going 25-27 mph in Sport mode and at the end of that segment I noticed that I was pulling six other riders. The bike rides very smooth and handles effortlessly. I’m 71 years old and this bike is exiting. Highly recommend.

When you graduate from your conventional Specialized road bike (ALR-4 for me) to the Creo (SL for me) you are transformed into a 29yr old (now 74yr for me) endurance speedster. You know when your moving along your favorite roads at 11-14mph and the young boys and girls pass you at 16-18mph like your standing still?WELL, NOT NO MORE FOLKS!Riding at my normal tempo 80rpm I am averaging 17.9mph on 15-40 mile rides. The only indication I have is I get home so much sooner and the two dogs on my ride can’t even get close to me. I thought the computer was off?Holy cow.Range anxiety? I have more worry with my cell phone battery and my EV battery than I do with the Creo.On flat with rolling hills I average about 1 to 1-1/2% per mile usage. I use Turbo to cross roads and highways at 2-way stop signs or very windy climbs.NEVER GOING BACK!!

Awesome Machine - More Miles More Smiles

I bought this bike essentially so that I could get my commute to work going again after our premises moved from 15Km to 50Km from home, the hilly 2h30 ride unassisted getting to work after riding full tilt and pouring perspiration just wasn't feasible, I needed a Z2/Z3 ride under 2hours, this has given me that and after just one ride from work I can already feel the relief of stress (especially the traffic stress). On top of that I did a 97Km race this weekend and ended with plenty battery, a gravel ride a day ago which included some fairly rough sections it handled these like a dream (I put the sawtooth tyres on), sure it's not an MTB but I was wowed with it's capability. Expensive - but amazing

his bike is amazing. It's not some slapped on electric motor. This whole series of bikes is engineered around the motor so that it rides and feels like a top of the line road/gravel bike. I use it for a 32 mile (round trip commute from an outer suburb to downtown). My city has rough streets so my one upgrade was to go to 38 mm summer and 38 mm winter tires and run those at 60 psi. That smooths out the bumps to both me AND the bike. I used to average around 15 mph on a good day, now I can maintain around 20 mph. It's shave 10 to 20 minutes off each direction. That's getting back 20 to 40 minutes of may day. That makes the expense worth it. Since I am tall and not skinny and have lots of traffic lights along the way I use more power on this commute that someone riding ... Morehis bike is amazing. It's not some slapped on electric motor. Fantastic Road Bike

Just picked up an XL Cero SL E5 which is the alloy version. First let me say I was shocked at how light it was. I also own a Roubaix Comp Carbon and I was surprised the Cero SL was not much heavier. Added pedals and a few other accessories and off I went, let me just say, out of this world. Forget the power assist this bike flies without the assist, almost like my Roubaix which is a carbon frame. Trun on the power and you become a rocket ship, even in Eco mode. Put it in Turbo and you may lose your helmet. Now I love my Roubaix and will ride it as well but with the Cero SL I can now do 50- and 60-mile rides, I am 67 so those longer rides are a bit of a chore and at 67 I do not want my leisure activity to be a chore. I love this bike, but I am grounded
27 February 2021

I have several hundred miles on my Turbo CREO E5 comp. I love the bike, and the cushioning front has taken some of the strain off my hands and shoulders. I wanted a bike that would be similar to my road bike geometry and rider position, and I also wanted this CREO to serve for picking up groceries. This bike has provision for rack mounts at the dropouts, but did not provide mounting points at the seat. This can be fixed with a new seat post clamp that has mounts for the rack stays. The unique threaded axels on this bike do away with the old style skewers and over-center levers. Now there is a screw arrangement which is elegant but the screw arm does not clear the rack mounting screw, making it necessary to undo the rack at the dropout in order to remove a flat tire ... MoreI have several hundred miles on my Turbo CREO E5 comp. It is a minor but important inconvenience. So why am I grounded? I am moving to a condo that has building rules preventing me from storing my bike in my condo, and requiring me to store it in the common bicycle parking area. That would be a minor problem if there were a way to charge the integral batteries on th CREO, but there is no electrical outlet in the garage area. Once my batteries run out of charge, I will be riding a conventional bike. I am 78, and do a couple thousand miles a year. I thought I had found a fabulous way to extend my riding for a few more years, but now I will have to invest in a bike with a removable battery.

On the road again ...

At 69, I thought my road bike riding days were coming to an end. Enter the Specialized Turbo Creo and I was truly excited to be back in the saddle. I received the bike this week and although I'm a long way from good bike shape, I can see getting there this year. In my 2 initial rides which were shorted by smoke from the fires here in CA, I managed to grind out 50 miles (with mask) averaging 18 mph. The bike is responsive and Turdo mode is really fun but Sport mode seems my sweet spot for decent mileage. I'm too old to be trying to prove anything, just ride for pleasure and get some great exercise in the process. My only complaint and reason for 3 out of 5 stars is due to the XXL bikes crank length and ground clearance, I got a few pedal strikes pedalling through ... MoreAt 69, I thought my road bike riding days were coming to an end. I'm too old to be trying to prove anything, just ride for pleasure and get some great exercise in the process. My only complaint and reason for 3 out of 5 stars is due to the XXL bikes crank length and ground clearance, I got a few pedal strikes pedalling through corners that would normally not be a problem (previous road bike was a Marin XL frame) . The only answer for now is to coast through the corners, outside pedal down but that seems weird to me. Powering through corners is fun. When I measured the pedal clearance, it is only 2.5"" from the ground with the bike vertical. That makes leaning into corners while pedaling impossible. I hope Specialized has an answer for me as I really like the bike but this seems like it might be a fatal flaw at least for the XXL. As to my recommendation below, I would have a hard time recommending the XXL due to this issue.

Superb bike (until it was stolen)
5 June 2023

There is nothing not to like about this bike. I am 83 and was looking for an e-bike that I could easily lift onto my bike rack; I believe I was told this bike weighs 33 pounds and it was an easy lift for me. The bike has great power assist when needed. I normally cruise at the first setting about 15 mph and managed to get it up to 35 mph when riding down a steep hill from a reservoir near my home. Now that it has been stolen, I am shopping for a replacement. Chuck
