Great dense wood that will last . I am using 2 panels, joined to create a kitchen come dining table. When preparing the panels it is worthwhile washing them well to reduce the tannins imbued in the wood. This process also lightens the color of the panels which gives you greater final presentation selections being varnish, poly or whatever combination you prefer. In my research, I found that many a woodworker had their own finishing combinations which goes the versatility of the wood.
I saved myself $500 and made myself a boat table, I had to bleed the timber using water and then dry it out, I wanted spotted gum but they didn't sell it in this size. This merbau woked fine after bleeding. Cut to size and used 3 coats of marine varnish.
Good quality and great for table top . Color is good. Needs a good clean before finishing off.
Can we sand this panel or will the stain colour be lightened?
I cut it down to make ktichen shelves and used liquid beeswax to bring out the colour. Looks great.
Purchased this panel to use as a desk top for working from home. Used a 700mm white trestle at one end and set of 700mm drawers at the other, with approx 250mm overhang for stability - perfect height. The whole set up looks stylish is functional and great value. Ordered on a Saturday and was delivered next day
Made a breakfast bar / table in the kitchen a couple of years ago.Two slabs joined together. End was cut to form a round end.
