Construction on the pedals is very high quality; these updated pedals from Wahoo now have a metal construction all the way around the pedal surface, increasing durability, and have a sealed bearing system so they no longer require regular regreasing like older models of Speedplay pedals did. Overall my experience with the Wahoo Speedplays has been great and I plan on using them as my road pedal from now on.

Upgraded my trusty Shimano PD-M520 pedals to the Speedplay’s. At first I was experiencing the whole ‘skating on ice’ feeling but soon forgot about this after doing a few miles with the pedals. The comp pedals came with the light action cleats which were easy to get in and out of. Pedals are great but lose a star for two reasons. 1. One of the plastic surrounds came off the cleat and was a nuisance to put back on. 2. There are no longer any covers to insert in to your shoe once off the bike, meaning mud a grit is able to get in. This happened to me and I struggled to get the cleat in and out of the pedal. I have since brought an older version of the speeplay aero cleats and use the cover from these. All in all I’m happy with the pedals.

Well worth it, three rides in and they work well from my knees and the power transfer is excellent. Absolutely love them. I did configure them so heel float towards the bike is low and float outwards is a little more and this seems spot on. I will note that in general these just feel so solid though peddling with low load you do notice that lack of rotational resistance, but again I have always used peddles that allowed this as lack of float always caused injuries. Not “easy to use”, but really useful!

I have four bikes with speed play zero and 1 with aero. Decided to change old speedplay zero chrome with these wahoo comp. The stack height is higher it seems. I weighed them also slightly heavier than old ones. Also the worst part the is the engagement. It doesn’t engage as well as other zero pedals. I am using the new black and old yellow zero cleats on a few shoes though. Have not used the provided grey ones as my shoes are already setup. They say it all will work but just my experience.Overall it will suit its purpose, as I did not want to step up to the more expensive zero pedals this time. I find the Aeros to be the best.

I decided to take a punt and try these, I'm so glad I did and won't look back, they not only look awesome on the bike ( I got the comp because they better matched the colour scheme of my bike) but clipping in is so much easier. It took a little practice to get used to, and setup definitely takes some patience. And that's not to mention how much easier they are on my knees, I've struggled with knee pain whilst running in the past, but to be fair cycling hasn't really been an issue, however the freedom of movement in my knee now is markedly more comfortable. Definitely recommended
As many have said, getting the fit is kind of annoying. The fore/aft can only be adjusted by taking off the 2 plates that actually do the clipping. I tightened to spec and within 1 month I heard a noise when pedaling and both were sliding about an inch or so foreword and back.Despite being light tension they're still harder to clip out of than 2 hole SPD. I even tried the dry PTFE lube trick they recommend. It seems like it's the middle plate that maybe gets stuck or something since that's technically what clips is just this moving metal C shaped piece. I can't imagine the "normal" tension cleat that comes with the other pedals.One other weird thing with the cleat part is the easy tension does not have the cleat surround. So you get a slightly less polished looking product because you don't want your feet stuck on your pedal.If you get the left/right (aka Q Factor) wrong you might experience pain on the edge of your feet.The float is nice to adjust. It keeps me from swinging my heel in toward the bike too much but can slide outward as much as I'd like.It's also nice that either side can clip in. If you're in traffic and miss too since it's flat you can still pedal along awkwardly. Or if you're trying to clip in and it won't quite set in you can still go since it's flat.
I love the Speedplay Comp pedals. This is my second set of such. I also like the new cleats for my shoes (nice that I can walk on them w/o covers, but covers also protected the cleats from getting dirt in them) - BUT, the new cleats do not engage well with my old pedals, which I find a bit disappointing. I was planning on swapping the old Speedplay pedal with those on my '70's era Miano bike and put it back into circulation for the occasional ride, but will have to rethink that. (The Miano pedals with toe-clips would go on my 2009 Specialize to make it into a town bike to go to the store, etc.)

The cleats take a bit of setup, far more involved than SPD-SL or SPD, but is still simple if you take the time to read the enclosed instructions. I did not know before hand that the cleats were made of regular cheap steel, they were working great until I took them out in the rain ONCE let them sit for about 2 days and then went on a ride with my wife and my cleats were sticking pretty bad which ended in me falling over, I wasnt too happy… I got home and checked what the deal was and they were super rusty. I took the cleats apart, gave them a good clean and applied a thin layer of gun lubricant and they’re working better than new! BUT! Please check these things every time you go out, especially if you live somewhere wet!I still like them and still recommend them, although I implore Wahoo to make these things stainless!
What the h* has Wahoo done to Speedplay pedals? First, they discontinued making the x-series cleats, which is a rip-off because the pedals last virtually forever but now you can't get the cleats, which do wear quickly. The new "comp" pedal weighs in at 232g (verified on my scale), which my old x-series Speedplay weighs 252-253 g. That's a difference big enough that you notice how heavy these pedals are right out of the box. Or you can pay $50-75 more to save ONLY 10 g by going with the "Zero" model, or pay $450 or so for the "Nano" that weighs 168 g, still not as good as the old x-series Speedplay. After years of being a Speedplay devotee, this is compelling me to look at the competition.
