Sometimes hard to find, I use the gamakatsu-2084-octopus-circle-hooks-offset-point for salmon fishing on the Pulaski River in NY. Size 6 works the best. I highly recommend this brand hook for its durability. It was recommend to me by one of Pulaski’s top Salmon guides Denny B. Thank you again for your passion and insight on how to continuously catch large Salmon and Steelies on the Pulaski River. Denny B. has since left the area. He will be missed by all his friend and fellow fishermen! Good luck Denny on your next adventure!

I used to use these hooked exclusively for wacky rigs as well as dropshot. However, after purchasing 3 packs of 25 I started breaking off a lot more fish even with new line. After looking thru all my equipment I noticed the hooks all had a defect in the eye that was causing the knot to break. I spoke with a couple other people who have recently had the same issue. I contacted the manufacturer and sent pictures like they asked and them never got another response. I changed to VMC

I wish these came a size smaller, but they work very well. Quite easy to remove from fish.Funny story: I was fishing on the bottom one day and got snagged. Had to break my line. Went to the same spot the next day. Hooked one. Was reeling in, when I felt oddly more resistance. I soon realized I had TWO trout on the end of my line - the one I’d just caught plus another one. After landing both and examining the second one, I instantly recognized MY octo hook, MY knot, and MY bait. That second trout had hooked itself on my BROKEN SNAG, which I then contacted & freed while reeling in the primary one.Certainly the most unusual event I’ve encountered fishing, and a testament to the the hook's ability to catch & hold with out a set.

This product is great for big catfish and big bass. I use size 6/0, 7/0 and 8/0 hooks when I bottom fish for catfish and smallmouth bass, the hooks don’t rust and they are incredibly strong. They are very sharpe and really pin the fish in the lip. Every now and then the smallmouth will get one down in their gut but I can usually get the hook out. The product itself is great and I do recommend these hooks, however upon receiving these in the mail the box in which they were shipped in was mostly destroyed and was being held together by tape and the hooks were all over inside the box and some were missing. I recommend buying this product in store if possible to ensure you receive all of your hooks.
The Gamakatsu saltwater hooks are, in my opinion, the best on the market for bottom fishing. They have super sharp points, and stay that way through many days of fishing on the hard bottom. They will Pierce them hard and honey mouths of large snapper and grouper resulting in my hook-ups and landings. Also, I have never had a 4X hook break under the strain of huge sharks and the occasional Goliath. THUMBS UP!
I use these size 8 circle hooks to fish for panfish on the bottom of impoundments. I tie these onto a 12 inch fluorocarbon leader. Above the leader swivel I attach a sliding sinker that is using high vis line. This method is the same way that one uses for tightlining for catfish. I do not set the hook because of the circle physics of when fish run with it, the hooks turns and then are side lip hooked. What is the ratio of being lip hooked verses down the gullet? Per 100 fish I caught, 81% are lip hooked verses 19% are gullet hooked.
These hooks were hand crafted in the foothills of the great Mt Fuji by Grand master samurai Iikatsufishu Gamakatsu. Each hook contains the piercing power of the Shinkansen bullet train that allows it to cut through the water like a katana. There is not a fish alive that can match the power of these hooks…
These are not inline circle hooks. They are offset, although that is not stated online or on the package. They are thus not legal where I fish, and the offset foils the whole purpose of a circle hook in the first place.
Octopus hooks are great for catch and release but these are better than most. They're inline instead of offset which means if you put one on a flat surface it won't wobble. Offset hooks wobble because they have a twist. In my view inline hooks are easier to remove and therefore better for catch and release.I've bent a few and broke a few but mostly these just catch fish. I use light tackle so that's to be expected. You'll do well if you just pull enough to tighten the line. Let the fish hook itself.
I have always been impressed by Gamakatsu hooks. The majority of the fish I catch with them are hooked on the side of their mouth. This allows me to release the fish if I choose to do so without harming them and if I decide to keep them , they are alive and well in my holding tank.
