The SRAM X4 rear derailleur replaced an identical unit with 12,000 miles of service completed in wet and mucky weather. Halfords kept adequate stocks of the part, so no pre-booking needed. The mounting bolt was a shade over-long and required a little fettling in a lathe but a spacer would do just as well to tighten it in place. Otherwise don't throw the old bolt away.

I needed a budged replacement rear derailleur, and after a quick search online found the SRAM X4. It was an easy replacement, and adjustment was quite straight forward (after watching a couple of YouTube videos). It's better quality than the SRAM 3.0 that it replaced, and should last a good while. A quality item for the price.

I was worried about this being the right one and the set up of it. With advice from the team at Halfords when purchasing, I couldn’t believe how well engineered this was and so easy to set up and for that price, I was really pleased.

Ended up snapping my deralieur and the hangar quite a few months back. Popped into halfords the other week to see how much a new derailieur would set me back and to my supprise they had the one that used to be on my bike and it was a lot cheaper than expected. Apart from forgetting to buy a new hangar for the derailieur, installation was very simple and was extremely easy to tune up the gears. Still isnt perfectly tuned but this isn’t a high-end product, nor do I know fully how to set up the derailieur tuning either, but regardless very easy and works very well.(Just want to point out that the only reason the last one broke was because I caught it in the spokes of my bike and the force on the chain ended up snapping it, wasn’t the product, but human error on my part).
Broke on installation, due plastic pin retaining the clutch and spring. Which is no good for longevity, rivets are also prevent fixing or service. SRAM won't burn again.
Excellent replacement for my broken derailleur. Worth noting that the hanger doesn’t come in the box. This is a separate part & therefore at additional cost. Gears now work better than they ever have.
Needed a replacement derailleur for my sons bike as damaged it.Halfords had it in stock for next day delivery and was already the cheapest one I could find.Fitted rear derailleur easily but then you need to know what your doing
Had to replace gear mech on mountain bike due to riding mishap. Bought this one on eBay. Fitted it and adjusted it in less than half an hour. The mech came boxed and was a straight swap. Would recommend this to anyone in the same position as me.
I bought this a couple of months ago and fitted it to my child's bike. He's very happy with it and seems to find it simple enough to shift gears. For reference, a 1:1 actuation means this needs to be fitted with a sram shifter and will not work with another brand.
I bought this rear mech to replace the original on my 20 year old Dawes Watoga. I have fitted this along with sram shifter, new chain and cassette. Result- sweet shifting every time!
