BARGAIN!

Have been looking at this unit for sometime to replace an existing (13 year old) belt drive unit. Finally couldn't resist when it went on sale AND S/C offered 20% back on Clubcard credit for 1 Day as Bathurst special .... BARGAIN!It appears to be well made and I found no evidence of poor welds or rust that some others have experienced. It is considerably quieter than the Belt drive unit ... but ... the sound of the electric pumps is a different type and pitch than the belt drive unit, so I can understand some comments that it is not as quiet as expected.I tested it by having a conversation with a mate standing beside each compressor as they were running. This unit won hands down.

I purchased this to replace a smaller and noisy compressor which I mainly used for pumping up car tyres but would not cope with basic air tools. A smear of WD-40 on the plastic thread eases things. Secondly, the pull up on/off switch is stiff to operate and lacks a”positive smooth action”; once again poor quality. Thirdly, the manual does not describe some operations properly or adequately; the manual says that to drain water from the water trap you pull down the knob/tube at the bottom of the glass container- it didn’t move so I pushed it up and it moved up to drain the water and self closed when I removed my finger as it is spring loaded. Fourthly the pressure regulator operation description is incorrect; the manual says “ turn the red knob anticlockwise to reduce pressure and clockwise to increase pressure “. My unit does not have a “red knob”; it’s black. However, on closer inspection, on top of the knob in the plastic casting is a “ + and - “ and “ push to lock”, apparently you pull the black knob up and turn it left or right to reduce/increase pressure and push it back down again to lock the setting in place; there is no mention of this type of operation anywhere in the manual. I am beginning to think that I have a different manual as I read the thing three times ! Despite all the above, I am impressed by its quietness and its capacity to drive basic air tools but only time and use will indicate its worth. Finally, I purchased this only a few days ago on special and at the price paid it is quite good value but I would be very annoyed if I had paid full price for this at the time. Supercheap need to take these issues up with their manufacturers/suppliers.

The Stanley Silenced Compressor is excellent. I have used the Stanley Compressor quite regularly over the past week and have been very happy with it, quiet, no leaks at the connections and keeps up with the work I have used it for. However the air filter holders break very easily as they are a cheap moulded plastic and I found a little corrosion underneath the aluminium head cover.

Good value - not super quiet
14 October 2021

Picked up brand new fresh out of the box. Excellent value when on special. LPM value isn't super high, and I was surprised it wasn't as quiet as I was expecting. Not as loud as a regular belt driven 2 cylinder compressor, but definitely creates a loud noise when running. Compressor generates a lot more moisture in the tank than any other compressor I've used. Noticeably more that I wouldn't use it for my plasma cutter or spray painting.Like many others have found, the product pictures include inlet tubes, that were not included in the box. Doesn't affect usage, but I do wonder how much quieter it would be with the tubes included as advertised.

Great Compressor

Was searching to buy my 1st air compressor for some garage/backyard jobs and came across this Stanley one. Read the reviews and knew there could be some QC issues. But since it's a Stanley and the price was quite tempting I decided to give it a try.Payed online and picked up in-store. Arrived home and assembled all by myself - but that doesn't mean it's not heavy. Printed on box the gross weight is 46Kg so better get someone to help you for the maximum safety. During the setup, I checked all the visible connections, wiring, switches and air inlet filters, all good. Parts were properly screwed in, no dramas.Turned it on and it immediately impressed me - the thing was so quiet! I can't remember if I have ever seen a compressor that allows me to talk to others ... MoreWas searching to buy my 1st air compressor for some garage/backyard jobs and came across this Stanley one. I can't remember if I have ever seen a compressor that allows me to talk to others while it's on - but this one definitely does, and just my normal voice! That was really quiet, for a compressor it's almost silent. So happy about it as this has been way beyond my expectation. The compressor went to a stop automatically after the pressure reached 150PSI (or 10 bar). Connected hose and air gun, cleaned my car's engine bay without any issues. And then dusted a pedestal fan also with ease. It was full of dust after a summer's use usually I need to disassemble it and wash, then let it dry to re-assemble. But with this compressor a "waterless" wash brought shinning back to it within 10 mins. The compressor would turn itself on intermittently to maintain the internal pressure so that I could just focus on my job. Conclusion: this is a great compressor with very good value if you can get it when on sale. If I'd complain about something, that would be the regulator. The main part is made of metal but the knob is plastic. Obviously it would last longer if it's full metal and serve you better in the years to come.

There are two things which I plan to upgrade at some point after the warranty expires. So calling a spade a spade:1. The supplied regulator/water trap is pretty cheap feeling. It does the job just but it is hard to turn, flimsy feeling, easy to fall into the locked position while turning making it even harder to adjust and difficult to know which way increases or decreases tool pressure.2. The inlet air filters are really cheap plastic feeling. They do the job.... but they feel as if they could be easily damaged by some tool falling on them or easily overtightened to snap point them by hand if careless, or if trying to make the straws point the same direction (ie down).Other than those two minor and easily upgrading things the rest is great. Grab one if you are looking for a good quiet home compressor.

I can hear myself think
19 June 2022

I bought this on sale which is a good deal otherwise I would not have bought this for the full price, there are way better units out there for a few more dollars,it is a lot more quiet than my direct drive unit, motors are very powerful and fills up tank quickly, it has a good constant flow of pressure, seems to be built very well so far it has been very good, the negatives are the filters threads break very easy at the motor they get brittle with the heat of motors, the threads need to be metal, however it is a very easy fix with a brass coupler, the pressure regulator seems to be hard to adjust accurately but in the end you do get it to your required setting. I would of given it more stars but the filter threads upset me

Low noise as compared to direct drive blackridge
17 November 2022

More silent compared to my old blackridge direct drive air compressor. Cons is air filter assembly was made of plastic which I assume if it will be used daily will eventually break or if by accidentally knocked off. Blackridge has a better quality air filter which is metal. Another cons is the shut off valve in the air outlet. Bkackridge has it but why can’t stanley povide it. It’s hard to install your hose if the tank is pressurized already. I have to swap one of the tap valve from my blackridge so it won’t be a pain. Pressure regulator knob isn’t that smooth o adjust as compared to my old blackridge.

Mixed feelings
1 May 2023

Seems like a reasonable machine when available on special but not worth the normal $799.00. I was a bit disappointed there are no taps at the back of the Nitto outlets to isolate the air hoses so that they can be depressurized for connecting.I am also a but dubious about the compressor having 2 motors, twice as many things to go wrong, that being said the quiet operation of this unit is nice. The little castor wheels on one end of the unit are a joke So I just left all the wheels off so that it is a stationary unit.Time will tell how the unit stands up but at the moment I am reasonably happy with the units operation even though the air build up is a bit on the slow side

Compressor works well, but could benefit from some high flow fittings. It's a bit quieter than a vacuum cleaner, and you can have a conversation near the compressor while it's running, speaking only a bit louder than normal.During testing, fills up to 145PSI and lost only 10PSI over the whole week so it was sealed properly. I had no QA issues like others encountered, but definitely give the unit a thorough check over before throwing the box away.
