It worked and has worked since. The documentation was a little weak and the main issue is it required LPR setup for the ports not the normal TCP Printing most use these days. I have a fair amount of experience with Print servers in various forms and this isn't really a device for end users as the other review has indicated. It got me out of a bind networking an HP Plotter that had no network capabilities and their Old Wifi print server wouldn't support modern encryption standards etc.

Finally got it to work reliably!!

After about a year of on and off tinkering I *finally* believe I've found a way to keep this unit from spontaneously disconnecting. Summary: 1. Update the firmware via the USB server program included with the firmware download. 2. Configure the print server with a static IP followed by restarting the printer server. 3. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding setting up your printer. It's been up for days and working perfectly. It was a long and winding road, but it works!!

I bought this because I have bought a lot of Startech products and always have had good luck. BUT, careful on this one. There are only a few printers that this is compatible with. Also, while it does include a software CD, it didn't work on a Windows 10 machine. I located the IP and logged in using a browser which is MUCH easier anyway. At that point, i found that it has a pretty limited amount of compatible printers and found it won't work with my label printer. I have used a few other print servers(usb and parallel) in the past and have never experienced compatibility issues before whether it's a label, laser, or dot matrix printer - this is a first for me.

I just finished getting this wireless print server installed last night and now that it is working everything is fine. However, getting it to work was quite difficult. I have over 20 years of IT experience and would consider myself to have fairly advanced abilities when it comes to troubleshooting these type of issues. This is not a product for the average home or small office user. Here are some things that I encountered: 1. None of my home computers running Windows 10 could connect to the print server's wireless network for the initial configuration and so I finally had to connect directly to the print server with a network cable. 2. I had to manually configure a static IP address for the network card in my Windows 10 laptop before I could connect to the print server for initial configuration. 3. The management software that comes with the print server is worthless so don't bother even installing it. Just navigate to the IP address of the print server in your web browser and use that interface to configure the print server. 4. The print server will not detect all types of wireless networks. I have two different wireless networks in my house and it only detected one of them. Fortunately this was good enough for me. 5. There is absolutely no documentation for how to connect the print server to your existing wireless network. So you might have some trial and error before you get this right. You might have to reset to factory defaults a few times. Once I got the print server connected to my wireless network and working, I was able to connect to it relatively easily from all of the Windows 10 and Mac computers in my home. Summary: once it is working, everything is just fine. However, the installation and configuration was quite challenging and time consuming.

27 April 2019

I used this to connect my Canon Pro9500II to my network. I wanted to have it available on the network without being connected to a PC. I plugged in the device. It got an IP number using DHCP, and I want static IP's on my network, so I accessed its configuration page and changed that. I used an IP scanner to find it. You have to first change it from DHCP to static and submit that. When It comes back, you can then change the IP. After that, I installed the software and ran it. It found and installed the printer. Easy to do, and the printer works. If you don't mind having a system assigned IP address for the printer, you should be able to just plug it in, install the software, run it, and it will be ready to use.

It works, but...
4 February 2023

I had to tinker with this a little bit to get it to work because I am using Windows 10 and I believe the drivers on the cd included are for earlier versions of Windows. This caused me to have to go to this website to download the print server software. My complaint with this product is that the router I use does not acknowledge that it loaned out the dhcp address that the print server has and I can ping for the print server. This could be really difficult to troubleshoot if the dhcp server randomly assigns the dhcp print servers dhcp address to something else. I didnt actually look to see if this was fixed in a firmware version though.

Mostly useless
22 March 2018

I have found the same problems with the device. Stays online for anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, and then all network connections stop working. Light still flashes, but has to be rebooted. The device is supposed to make printing easy to use... Having to explain to them that "before you can print you have to restart this device every time" is really unacceptable. I contacted support and their method to get me to test was to "Would it be possible if you can test the PM1115U2 on a test PC and have the print server connected directly to the PC’s Ethernet port without a network" I'm not sure what this would achieve. This is not how computers work. Unless I use a crossover cable; or do some other such messing around, this wouldn't allow me to print

No Default Gateway Option
25 August 2021

I cannot believe I'm saying this in 2021. You can only specify the IP and Subnet, the device does not support in anyway a Default Gateway. So if you are planning to use this across multiple networks or like in my case over a VPN. It will NOT work. I confirmed this was not fixed in the latest firmware either. This product should not be purchased by anyone since it does not have proper network configuration and will strand you at some point.

Print Server Installation - Great Product
29 September 2021

This is my second purchase of the Network LPR Print Server. We've been using the first on our home network for several years without any problems. When I installed the second one on the network I kept getting an error message "Error loading print server driver." After researching the StarTech.com website and several failed attempts to correct the error myself, I called the 800 number for technical support. The technician was very professional and immediately helpful. Within minutes he walked me through the process to remove and reload the printer through the Windows 10 Device Settings. 4 March 2021

The WIFI wireless functionality of my Canon MX472 failed. Rather than connect and print to it from the USB port, I bought this Print Server and connected it to the ethernet port on my Comcast cable modem/router. As usual, once I loaded the Canon printer driver my MAC wirelessly & easily connected to the StarTech print server, (even my Windows shell using the Parallels Desktop S/W. The other PC running Windows 10 took some manual configuring to get it working. So I was able to save and keep using my Canon MX472 printer. This is ideal for connecting a stand alone printer with a USB port and allow it to be networked via your home router.
