I was using an 2 port ATEN displayport switch but needed to go to 4 ports so i bought this. To my disappointment, it took five seconds or more to switch between screens. It makes an irritating double beep when doing so and, most importantly, it does not maintain a connection with the computer when switching away so that a windows 7 or 10 system will think the monitor has been disconnected. This causes the applications to all move to the Master (default) screen. I am sending this back and will buy a higher quality device.

I've tried several KVMs, including some models that had faster switching or more features, but this is the one that has been most reliable for me. The most noticeable issue is that switching takes a while, but I've just learned to be patient. And just to be clear, by 'a while' I mean between 4 and 6 seconds. For comparison, other models that I have had in the past can switch in a second or two. However, these other units were not as reliable, eventually having ports that failed completely until I was down to just one port. So a fine trade-off in my opinion. The other quirk that I can easily work around is the occasional failure to switch to a certain input/computer. In my case, it is almost always my second computer. I have one Windows laptop on input 1 and then three almost identical PCs on the remaining ports, one running Windows and the others running Linux. To work around the issue when it happens (about once every twenty or thirty switch instances), I just press input buttons 1 and 3 simultaneously to get the KVM to reset and then press input button 2 for the computer on the problematic port. Easy workaround. The rare quirk that stumped me for a while was an issue getting some PCs to finish booting after a fresh OS image was installed. The fix for me was to just attach the monitor, keyboard, and mouse directly, to allow the first boot after imaging to complete. Weird, but manageable. Overall, this is a solid unit and I am very happy with it. I've already mentioned some aspects of my particular setup, but one additional detail that might be interesting is that I don't use the analog audio connections. Instead, I use a shared USB audio dongle with analog output that goes to my speakers. There is a bit of the USB removal/insertion sing-song when I switch between computers and the USB dongle is removed from one computer and then recognized (again) on the other, but I have gotten used to it.

I can't really speak to the switching speed because that's never really bothered me, but if that's a must have you should be aware it takes a second to switch between screens. It has a total of 4 USB Ports, that's 4, 4 USB ports that are shared between the computers, and 2 of those are dedicated to mouse and keyboard. Attempts to hook up an external USB hub (both Powered and Unpowered) have resulted in... complications. Often times with a USB hub the perirphrials will randomly just stop responding so yeah... better be settled on what you want. I haven't run into any problems with the mac. This KVM works better than another that I tried, but still has serious issues. When the OS puts the monitors to sleep after inactivity, and you try to wake the monitors up, usually only one of the two comes back *but* the OS somehow still thinks the second monitor is working. Sometimes this can be resolved by switching away and back. Not consistently. It's not clear whether there is some bad interaction between the particular monitors/GPUs/cables being used and the KVM.
