I tried the startech product after having 3 of a competitors drive bays fail after about 3 years. Ports would fail etc. As I've only used this for a month, I can't speak to longevity yet. It does have 2 fans whereas the others seemed to have one. The drive cages seem well built and it does hold the drive securely. No issues putting them in. One downside is that it does require screws for the drives. It uses very small screws and they're all in one small bag that's not resealable. If you don't need to put in 4 drives at once, you're going to want to get something to keep them in. The LED is bright on the drive and easy to see. The fans are reasonably quiet for their size, but it will add noise to your system. I've got a couple of servers and needed to find a way to mount an SSD without taking up any of the other drive mounting locations. This little device allows mounting the drive in an otherwise unused expansion slot. All it needs it an open backpanel slot and it doesn't matter what kind. The device itself doesn't plug into the slot, it just rests over it. So you can use a slot with PCI, PCI-e or whatever. It connects to your computer using a SATA port an a power connection, just like any other drive mounting setup. I don't use mine for hot swapping (pulling the drive out while the machine is booted) so I can't comment on that. I just use mine as fast boot drives. The way the device fits through the back panel slot can be tricky on some cases. Installed with out a problem only dislike is lock unlock does not disconnect the drive you must pull the drive but that not a big deal all my drives are on case like this this make replacing a drive a snap instead of having to pull a whole machine which could be an hour or more work this take minutes at the most 30 second at the least. If you are going to do more then one drive they a 2 and 4 drive unit if I do this again it will be a 4 drive unit even if I don't use the extra bays for my own drives you can use it to try to recover other people data if they have a crash with an SSD drive.

Looks like startech improved the eject arm that was complained about in earlier reviews; it is now unable to slide over the top of the drive. Only thing that could prob be improved is the door latch, but it's functional.
Ok, so my 4 2.5 bay model came today. Got it installed with 4 15mm 5GB drives, all of that went well. Turn the power on and 4 leds that are NOT listed in the manual started flashing red and blue and i was like WTF. Well, I found out that flashing blue is the drive in use and flashing read means the fans are screwed up. Well low and behold one of the fans on the back wasn't spinning and after what it took to get the damn bay and 6 cables in the cramped space I fiddled with it and got it spinning to where it sounded like it was grinding teeth. well THAT fan broke out of the enclosure from grinding and is now silent blowing air who knows where and the red lights are out. Speed is good, and other than the garbage fans I'd recommend this. I'd give it 5 stars if the fans ... MoreOk, so my 4 2.5 bay model came today. And, most important, it is small enough to fit in the case of my HP Z4 workstation. Things are really tight inside the workstation but this fits perfectly, unlike the much longer alternatives from IcyDock. There are also some things that could be improved. I don't understand why (2) 4-pin Molex power connections are required. Someone suggested one was for backup/redundancy purposes but I can confirm that you need both connections for all bays to work. Two adapters from the old 4-pin connector to the newer style power connectors are included but it is still a hassle. I put couple layers of glass-reinforced packing tape on the inside top of the case to keep the lever down and added a loop of tape to the drive so it could be pulled out if need be. Another unit was fussy about lining up the drive to accept it at the connector. Versus Kingwin KF-251-BK rack: structurally the Kingwin is better made: stronger and better design for the lever; it (KF-251) is open for ventilation. Works great, snug fit, and easy to use with no noticeable lag in performance that can sometimes happen with rigs like these.
