I tried the StarTech adapter with two SD cards I had on hand. Using my desktop PC with a Type A USB 3.0 port, I copied a directory to the SD card that had random stuff on it. Some files were large and some small. I then read the card by copying the SD directory to a different location -With a San Disk 16 GB Extreme Pro, class U1 card rated at 95 MB/s write speed: large files easily maintained 75 MB/s write speeds with small files (< 10 kB) slowing to less than 500 kB/s. A total of 6 GB took about 30 seconds. Read speeds often exceeded 200 MB/s. (The same files took 5 minutes to write and ran at 15 MB/s when using a USB2 SD card adapter) -With a Patriot 32 GB "EP", class U1 card: large files maintained a write speed of 35 MB/s with small files slowing to 100 kB/s. ... MoreI tried the StarTech adapter with two SD cards I had on hand. Reads exceeded 100 MB/s. I got similar results using the USB 3.1, Gen 1, Type C port (5 Gb/s) on a new laptop. The StarTech SD card to USB 3 adapter is just the ticket for copying image files from my DLSR cards onto the PC. Highly recommended.
