A platform into which you can install a portable computer. The docking station typically contains slots for expansion cards, bays for storage devices, and I/O connectors for peripheral devices, such as printers and monitors. Once inserted in a docking station, the portable computer essentially becomes a desktop model computer. Most importantly, the same data is accessible in both modes because it resides on the portable computer’s drives. The idea behind docking stations is to let you simultaneously enjoy the expansion possibilities of desktop model computers with the portability of notebook computers. In addition, the docking station enables you to use a full-size keyboard and monitor when you’re not traveling.

It took a few weeks searching for the right docking station for me.I need 4k@60Hz and power delivery. This enables me to interchange two laptops at the same monitor using just one single USB-C cable. This docking station is the first one that fulfilled my requirement. It is essential to read the docs. The device takes 15watts for itself. This means if you are using e.g. a 65w power supply, there will only be 50w available to the notebook. I solved the issue by buying an additional 112w USB-C power supply, offering enough reserves for both the power unit and the dock. Both notebooks charge fast.Highly recommended product if your notebook supports USB-C alt mode.

i bought 4 of these for my work area as we upgraded laptops. Also have 4, 60w power supplies that work fine with the laptops. However, there is NO POWER DELIVERY when the USB C power supply is plugged into the Power delivery port. Not very useful at this point as the PC"s just bought have just 1 USB C port.

It is an exact match for connecting my laptop via one cord (USB C for power and data) to my KVM. Having selectivity of USB 2/3 to manage maximum video resolution/refresh rate is cleaver.

Maybe I just got the apple? It's possible there's more? waiting to be sold. I've been using it for a short time however I noticed a crackling noise when I plugged it into my headphones which let me know there was a bad connection.
The little dock gives you two options. It can either utilize USB-Cs all four lanes to create enough bandwidth to drive a 4k 60Hz monitor with DP1.2, while provides USB and Ethernet connectivities through the remaining USB 2.0 bus. Or, it uses only two lanes to drive up to 2 FHD monitors and uses the other two for USB 3 connectivity and gigabit ethernet. For my setup, I use its USB 2.0 mode to connect a 4k monitor at 60Hz, a 1080p webcam, an usb speaker and wired ethernet. All equipment get enough bandwidth to work properly. Im quite surprised to see over 150Mbps throughput from the Ethernet port as its only speced at 100Mbps in USB2.0 mode! The PD pass though mode is also working well, wasnt able to test the wattage though. Overall, Im quite happy/impressed with ... MoreThe little dock gives you two options. With its little size, it can be a good travel companion too.
This had everything I had been looking for in a Type-C dock: DisplayPort alternate mode with the choice of USB 2.0+4k60 or USB 3.0+4k30; USB-C PD passthrough; detachable USB-C cable. Works with my X1 Carbon running Linux.
With my son distance learning, we bough him a laptop and hooked up an extra monitor I had, but when he needed to be somewhere other than my "home office" to use his laptop, unplugging the monitor, ethernet, external keyboard, etc. was such a pain. This dock fit the bill nicely by letting him just plug a usb-c cord into his laptop to get all the peripherals connected. Unfortunately the power requirements of the laptop do not allow him to use the dock for power also, but going from several cords to a power cord and usb is great.
Overall the docking station works well, given that DELL ones are double the price this is good for what it offers. RJ454 Network connection, Power throughput, 4K monitor support. There are small annoyances, sometimes I find that the power though put does not work, so I just plug in the power directly into laptop. Also you need USB-C power supply to make use of the power though put, or maybe you can get a dongle your power cable to usb-c.
This replaced the terrible docks that Dell is currently delivery to their customers. I won't start down that path. This dock works well, displays dual screens and can had the UltraSharp Dell monitors. Ethernet and USB works good.As the person that 1 stared this actually. I'm not sure how he/she actually thought it would charge the laptop too. That should have been obvious.
ethernet port disconnects sometimes, maybe once a month or more often. requires unit to be unplugged and plugged back in. of course if you have a bunch of USB devices also attached they also go offline. HMDI made lead to OS intermittent freezing - OS freezes for a few seconds, then works for a few second IF the HDMI monitor is turned off. turn monitor on, everything is normal again. enet requires driver install on 10.12+ overall doesn't seem totally stable when used 24/7. probably if you connect / disconnect it everyday, that gives it the resets it needs to be reliable. if your laptop stays put, this unit won't make you happy
