Bought this with a view to having both my main monitors (24" & 27") run off a TypeC USB connector by daisy chaining them using their Display Port functionality and connecting them to this device. At the same time the laptop would be powered through the same device. After some fiddling around I did manage to get this working OK and I could even use the laptop screen as well, which I tend not to.The issue I do have at times for an unknown reason, is the device will get quite warm and the monitors will shut down for a few seconds, one or the other but not both together. There are some days when it does not occur at all. I'm guessing that if the laptop is working too hard, powering the laptop and driving the monitors becomes too much? A work around I found was to unplug the charging cable for the laptop so only the monitors are running through the device. Once it cools, then plug it back in again. This is not a deal breaker as the whole point was to not use the laptop screen so was to be more productive, which has certainly been achieved. Whilst the device does what I expected it to, it seems to be a little under powered which is a mild annoyance.

After trying several other adapters, this was the one that actually worked. I'm able to use my external monitor while charging my Dell computer.

I can get 60hz 4K displays out of my little 2017 MacBook 12in using this. Only adapter in the world that gives me 60hz displayport while providing charging power as well. Great job StarTech!! This works! (Others I have tried don't)
Seems to work fine on my 2018 Macbook. Unfortunately, the USB-C jack only transmits power and does not offer any other USB functionality. So I'm left using up two ports anyway but I now get 60hz.
Works as advertised, but it runs a little hot. Otherwise it seems to allow charging a 2yo MAC and drive a high quality display simultaneously. I would pay a little extra (max $2 more) if this unit could be made to run a little cooler. To the manufacturer: I suggest using more efficient power components to pass power without dissipating so much heat.
Finally found something that drives my old display at full resolution, is compatible with my Early 2016 12-inch MacBook (without Thunderbolt), and works with USB power delivery! This drives my Dell U2713HM at 2560x1440, 60hz. This was a challenge because this display supports an old version of HDMI, so only DisplayPort or DVI can drive it at full resolution.
great for handling charging issues along with video enablement off of one port
worked perfectly for what i needed. worked with my Dell 27" monitor.
