The first SR-Lambda series was introduced 36 years ago and it has further developed into a new-generation SR-Lambda with its newly designed enclosure - the new SR-L700 advanced-Lambda series Earspeaker. Top Quality Sound Element The SR-009 hand selected thin-film diaphragm as well as fixed electrodes machined through three-layer stainless etching using heat diffusion has been employed for the SR-L700 sound element. Thus, rich deep bass response, delicate high frequency and soothing mid-range has been achieved in a balanced sound. 10-Click Type Headband Assembly The headband (ARC) assembly of the SR-L700 is equipped with 10-click slider mechanism for head pad height adjustment adopted from SR-009. Once adjusted, the slider always maintains its optimal position to make readjustment unnecessary. This enables you to enjoy hours of pleasant music listening with utmost comfort. Low Capacitance Wide Hybrid Cable 6NCu high purity 99.99999% copper wires are employed for the core wires plated in silver coating. The whole cable uses the conventional wide format parallel structure to lower the capacitance between each wire and finished with the most suitable structure to drive the Earspeaker. New Genuine Lamb Leather Earpads: New earpad design is carefully hand crafted with genuine lamb leather for utmost comfort for hours of music enjoyment as well as sound performance.

A Gift for Myself

These are really wonderful headphones and super comfortable. I could wear them for hours with no problems as they are very light. The sound quality is crisp and clear. The bass could be better but given that these are electrostatic, I'm very pleased with what is presented. These headphones offer me the lightness of sound that I have been looking for. As for the build quality, I'm very satisfied - as I don't want them to get too heavy. The clamp force for me is about right. I'm driving the headphones with STAX-SRMD50 and this unit does an excellent job and as a plus, it looks really cool on my desk.

After roughly 20 years, I felt it was time to upgrade from my 404 headphones (or earspeakers as per Stax) + SRM 006t amp (the SRS-4040 system) to the new L700 MKII (headphones) + SRM 700t (amp). This brief review will focus on the L700. There is a substantial price differential between the original models and my new purchases. The new equipment represents a step up cost-wise plus the benefits of two decades worth of technological advancements. The 404's are excellent headphones. That said, the L700 revealed more detail, air/space around instruments, and deeper bass, and gave even more chills than the older headphones when listening to vocals. Replacing the 006t with the 700t benefitted both headphones, but the L700 remains clearly leaps and bounds ahead of the 404. I would never reach for the 404 if the L700 was available. But please note that the 404 is still amazing and is better than 99% of the (portable) stuff out there today, IMO.Thank you, Headamp, for a quick and easy transaction.

Both of my Stax headphones are driven by the Mjolnir carbon energizer. The l700 mk2 sound is brighter than the 007 mk1 but both are ridiculously detailed sets compared to my dynamic and planar headphones. The 007 mk1 has more bass and the mids are to die for. I prefer the livelier treble on the l700 mk2 however. The 007 can sound a little too dark sometimes. Though the l700 is lighter on bass compared to the 007, the detail in that bass, however, is fantastic. Both have good soundstage. I believe the soundstage delivery on both phones is affected by the size/shape of the drivers and pads used. Imaging on both sets is pinpoint accurate. Instrument separation is ridiculous.I would say the 007 hits you like Mike Tyson with all the power and meanness. It is not perfect but when those hooks, jabs, or uppercuts connect, you’d find yourself on the canvas of ecstatic musicality. The l700 on the other hand hits you with a smile while you land on the canvas. It is not as punchy as the 007 when it hits you. I would recommend feeding the l700 with a warmer dac if being driven by a brighter energizer such as the Mjolnir KGSS. Of course, you can’t beat the sound quality you get from the Carbon or HeadAmp Blue Hawaii/l700 pairing. You can’t go wrong with any of the Stax recommended energizers either. The l700 mk2 is a fantastic pair of headphones and it complements my 007 mk1 pretty much.

GREAT REFERENCE EAR SPEAKERS

This pair is simply awesome! From the 3 weeks I've had these beauties in my system they have never ceased to put a smile in my face. Most who are into headphones probably know Stax's reputation of producing very transparent sounding headphones, or ear speakers, as they call them. And of the ones I've heard (including the SR-009), these ones are to me the most natural sounding. Paired with the Mjolnir Octave SE II and my Chord Mojo as source, they produced a musical landscape that is both exiting and very detailed. Am looking forward to revisiting my music collection with its unique sound character, which dare I say to be the most euphonic of the Stax family? Maybe, at least compared to the Sr-009.As the top of the line in the Lambda series, they feature a detachable cable, hand-me-down components from their pricier brothers and a bit more leather than the rest of the series. They are also much more comfortable than what their outer exterior would suggest. To top if off, Justin was a pleasure to buy from and he was very polite in answering all my questions, no matter how newbie-ish they might have seemed. I will gladly buy from him and this store again.

I have a lot of headphones including planars, ribbons, dynamic and everything in between but I’ve always had a soft spot for e-stats. The L700 MK2 is super comfortable (after a break-in period to loosen the head clamping force) and combined with the D-10, is an amazing “portable” system. Perfect for late-night listening sessions in bed and especially with classics or jazz music.

Great product! Astonishing resolution. Besides all the accurate reviews and praise what impressed me the most is that you get to listen the characteristics from the source gear used in the recordings such as compressors. Paired with a borrowed 353, I'm definetely investing in a new solid state from their newest line. I extremely recommend it for somebody who's looking for analytical listening.Great service from Headamp. Package was really well protected and arrived after two days of purchase.

One word: emotion

I have these L700MKII's paired with a STAX SRM-353X amp and Chord Qutest DAC (all purchased from HeadAmp) and the level of detail and imaging is out of this world. The experience is totally musical and completely lacking in any kind of weird discoloration or distortion. And combined with the absurd speed of the electrostatic drivers, the end result is that the headphones "disappear" and you're suddenly inside the same room as the musicians. Listening to albums such as Chick Corea's Mad Hatter is a legitimate emotional experience for me, it sounds as if they are right in front of me! Even with bass EQ they will not hit quite as hard as my Audeze LCD2C's, but it is close enough and very tight, fast bass. The L700MKII's are also a little bright for very loud/harsher recordings so I usually switch to the LCD2C's for that. This doesn't mean the L700MKII's are in any way harsh or overly bright, I just prefer a darker headphone for harsher (e.g. loud electric rock or metal) recordings to smooth things out. I use the L700MKII's for everything else.

Stax SR-L700 Mk2 – The Lambda Legacy Continues!

This is my third Stax earspeaker. Like my two companion Stax earspeakers (1982 SR-Lambda Pro, 2015 SR-507), the SR-L700 Mk2 puts a smile on my face to hear the familial Stax electrostatic sound. I am pleased to note they continue their “Made in Japan” quality workmanship. Significant improvements are in the ES driver unit design, detachable cable, non-adhesive snap-on earpads, better earcup swivel/clamping force, symmetric uniform thickness earpads, and metal earcup yokes. The most significant change is the greater earcup swivel that produces a more uniform clamping force around the ears for better comfort and seal. I liked the tuning of the SR-507 the most, followed by the SR-L700 Mk2, Jade II, SR-Lambda Pro, and lastly the ESP95X. The SR-507 has a V-shaped frequency response giving it a fun to listen character. The L700 Mk2 is the most comfortable, neutral and least fatiguing for extended listening. The Jade II has an airier brighter sound, with a softer presentation reminiscent of Hifiman’s planar magnetics. The SR-Lambda Pro is treble-centric but does have some low bass extension. It is not as fast and transparent sounding as the current generation thin-diaphragm electrostatic drivers. However, the Lambda Pro remains a working testament of Stax’s legacy. The ESP95X is too flawed in quality in comparison to Stax and Hifiman products. The ESP95X are mid-centric and thin sounding. They are an inexpensive listen, but need EQ.Some nitpicks: The attachment ends of the L700 Mk2 leather headstrap lack reinforcements/stiffeners to prevent the strap from flopping around and turning an annoying concave down direction after use. The asymmetric mesh dust cover is not well secured inside the earcup and its plastic frame may become a resonant source. Mine were not installed properly; I had to re-orient the frame so the wide edge was facing the front and not obstructing sound from the ES driver.Another big smile on my face as I enjoy the SR-L700 Mk2. It is yet another refinement in the Lambda legacy. Well done again Stax!
