Great saw, much easier to start then my old 291 and the extra power is a plus. The anti-vibration is way better my arms stay loose. I cut only hardwood, Beach and Oak with the other's. No softwood so thats what test a saw ability. My only complaint is the original muffler kept vibrating loose and completely broke away all the metal so i had to buy the new style which stihl should have given me. That one vibrated loose also but locktite and know how fixed it. Great saw hope they leave it alone. No computer or emission changes needed, the EPA is killing all great working products.

I bought the 391 in 2019 and bought Stihl premix for the break-in period. The engine started to shut off after half hour of usage and wouldn’t start. I thought it was flooded, but even with unflooding procedure, it wouldn’t start. Stihl dealer told me you have light piston scoring, and Stihl wouldn’t cover it. But the compression was 140+ PSI. I kept using it few more time (half hour at a time), then it wouldn’t start anymore. Come to find out that the side cover of the engine just fell off. See pics
Bought mine 8 months ago always startes on 2 or 3rd pull. I just set it and it eats with its own weight. I cut about 20 cords and just had to get new blade. It is heavy but the power is worth the weight. Was tired of buying a new chainsaw every 2 years so spent the money.
Amazing saw. Cuts like butter with a sharp chain.
This saw is very powerful for its size and weight and cuts extremely well. It is very well engineered and cuts timber along its full bar length with ease. It starts very easily even without the decompression valve and cuts 20" pine logs like they're butter.
i was going to buy something a little smaller to cut some hardwood stumps down - glad i didnt - this saw had to work for that job but did it without any major grizzles. Absolutely can cut hardwood its entire length - key to any chainsaw..... keep the chain sharp. this is a strong piece of equipment considering its physical size. along with a smaller electric chainsaw im confident i can tackle anything on my lifestyle block with ease.
