Air Still Review

It's a very good quality, easy to use still. Although the Essentials bundle comes with a fermenting cask, we start with the cheapest 4l cask wine we can find. Traces of aroma remain from what you use for the wash. This is attractive. There is a separate botanicals basket for the still for those wanting to make gin. It's only $19 but I'd prefer it included in the bundle. The instructions are pretty good, but you'll need to do further reading. The first 20ml of spirit, which will start dripping out about an hour after commencing, is mostly methanol and should be discarded. That's not included in the instructions. You'll need to estimate the % ethanol in your wash and make sure you only gather that amount plus a bit more to make up a 60% abv distillation. Air Still not as easy to use as advertised

On the box shows how to ferment a wash by mixing water,sugar,carbon,yeast and yeast nutrient. Allow to sit and ferment before cleaning. The instructions inside the box are more detailed. You must add waster at 30c.You must sit fermenter at room temperature approx 18/24c are just a few reqirements. Not as easy as advertised.Would like refund.

This is a handy piece of kit to distill. It’s size is convenient. However, there are a few minor things that could be better. The instructions are adequate - however, I recommend doing research first.The first thing is ease of use. It is easy to setup and distill. If you distill as per the instructions you will get an adequate alcohol only.However, if you want a decent spirit you will need to do a “stripping run” after you have completed the fermentation of the wash. Get rid of the first 50mls and then keep about 1500ml from your 4litre wash. That should give you about 55-60% alcohol. Then do a ‘spirit run’ again, get rid of 50mls and keep a few jars of 100mls. Great for beginners, and more experience people for infusion work

Very simple to set up and to operate and works really well.A small but important improvement would be the ability to adjust the boiler power.

Information Lacking

Overall experience was ease of use - although not quite everything included since two charcoal filters required for every 10 liter wash and only one in kit. (which instructions tell you to discard and replace before first use !!)More detailed instructions can be found online but not everyone has internet access available in their region.

Must Have

I already have one & this purchase was for a mates 60th. He’s over the moon and looking forward to making his own tasty drinks.Works great and is a cheap way to make drinks far superior to the commercial fair.

Outstanding piece of kit

Capable of producing very good quality neutral spirit. Doesn't yield the same volumes as a larger set-up, but this is off-set by the ease of use, it's literally plug-and-play. You'll read a fair number of negative reviews from brew-snobs who have invested heavily in a "proper" still but we've enjoyed plenty of good drinks from this.

You will be delightfully surprised

This was a gift for my husband who once owned a large stainless and copper distillery which made heaps of alcohol with each batch. We have moved to a retirement village and no longer have the room for that operation hence this smaller air still. Dubious at first however, pleased to report 100% satisfaction with the ease of process and the product delivered albeit in smaller quantities. It is so easy, he can put down a batch each week with no effort and just the laundry bench surface. The filtration system, whilst basic, is excellent. We are very happy with this product.

great, sturdy, easy to use product

The instructions are easy to follow with lots of information provided and the unit itself is of sturdy construction. It was very easy to use for a first - timer and it came with everything I needed to make my first batch. Cheers
